Check both your GST portal account and the email address registered to it. Notices may be made available on the common portal or communicated to the registered email address, so a missing email alert does not by itself show that no notice exists.
Where to check for a GST notice

Check the GST portal
- Navigate directly to the official GST portal and sign in to the taxpayer account. Avoid signing in through links in unsolicited emails.
- Open Dashboard > Services > User Services > View Additional Notices/Orders.
- Find the relevant item and select its View link to open the case details. The available tabs and actions can differ by notice or order.
- Read the document itself. Note its form, issuing authority, relevant period, requested action and stated deadline.
The GST Council’s portal guidance documents this route. See the 54th GST Council meeting material. If you cannot sign in, use the portal’s login help and username or password recovery options; GSTN describes recovery through registered contact channels in its login and password tutorial.
Check the registered email account
- Check the inbox for the email address registered to the GST account, as well as spam and junk folders.
- Confirm that your business can still access that mailbox. An address belonging to a former employee or adviser may no longer be monitored.
- If the registered contact details are outdated or inaccessible, use the proper account process to address access and contact-detail maintenance.
GSTN’s tutorial says correspondence for the registration flow is sent to the registered email and mobile number, and advises checking spam when an expected OTP email is missing. That guidance does not guarantee every notice will generate a delivered email alert. Do not share passwords or OTPs, and do not follow suspicious email URLs.
What to do when no email arrived
Sign in and check the portal even if your inbox is empty. Section 169, as reproduced in GST Council material, lists both communication to the email address provided at registration or later amended and making a communication available on the common portal among the modes of service. Email absence alone therefore does not establish that no notice exists or determine whether service occurred in a particular case.

Check the notice type and its deadline
Different notices can call for different actions and time limits. The GST Council’s index lists a CBIC instruction dated 23 November 2023 concerning service of the summary of a notice in FORM GST DRC-01 and electronic uploading of the summary of an order in FORM GST DRC-07. This relates to those summaries; it should not be treated as a universal workflow or deadline for every GST notice. View the GST Council’s CGST instructions index.
Use the document to identify what response is required and by when. If the deadline, demand or legal effect is unclear, seek advice from a qualified Indian GST practitioner; checking where a notice appears does not determine its validity or the correct response.
