Use Samsung Members > Phone diagnostics > Battery status to check your Galaxy phone’s battery condition. Choose Cable charging to test wired charging. For battery-use history, charging speed settings, or a charge limit, check the separate options in Settings. Menu names and available tests vary by model and software version.
Check battery condition with Samsung Members
- Open the Samsung Members app. If it is not installed, Samsung says you can download it from the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store.
- Tap Support, or open Discover > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics. Samsung documents both routes.
- Run the diagnostics. The first run may start a full scan automatically. If it does, stop the scan and select Battery status to run that test on its own.
- Review the result. Samsung’s UK guide, updated April 15, 2026, uses Normal, Weak, and Bad: Normal indicates no battery issue, Weak suggests efficiency may have decreased, and Bad indicates significant battery-life degradation. Labels can differ by region, model, and app version.
This is a battery-condition diagnostic, not necessarily a percentage-based health reading. The Samsung guidance cited here does not establish a universal battery-health percentage display for Galaxy phones. Samsung also notes that Device care diagnostics are available on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later; test availability can vary.
Check wired charging and battery usage
These options answer different questions: Battery status checks battery condition, while Cable charging tests wired charging behavior. Battery usage screens show consumption history and related information, not the same diagnostic result.

Run the Cable charging test
- In Samsung Members, open Support or Discover > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics.
- Select Cable charging and review the result. The test may not be available on every device.
Review battery usage
Open Settings > Device care > Battery to review battery usage and related battery information. This helps identify how the phone is using power; it does not replace the Battery status diagnostic.

Check fast charging and charge limits
Charging menus differ across Galaxy models and software versions, so try the path that matches your phone’s Settings screen.
- Newer path: Settings > Battery > Charging settings. If supported, turn on Fast charging and Fast wireless charging. On Galaxy S23-series phones, Samsung says Fast charging and Super fast charging are combined under one Fast charging setting.
- Path on some interfaces: Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > More battery settings. Check Fast charging, Super fast charging, and Fast wireless charging, where available.
- Charge limit: Open Settings > Battery > Battery protection. Depending on the selected option, enabled protection may stop charging early or limit the maximum charge. A phone that stops below full may therefore be following its configured charge limit rather than showing a battery fault.
Fast charging requires a phone, charger, cable, and accessories that support the selected mode. A PC or standard USB connection may not provide fast charging.

Troubleshoot slow, interrupted, or failed charging
Work through the likely causes in this order, starting with settings and the charging connection before treating the symptom as a battery problem.

- Charging mode or equipment: Confirm the relevant fast-charging option is on and that the phone, charger, cable, and accessories support that mode. A PC or standard USB port may not provide fast charging.
- Connection or cable: Make sure the cable is firmly connected. A worn cable can slow or interrupt charging. For a suspected wired-charging issue, run Samsung Members’ Cable charging test.
- Temperature or phone activity: Charging may slow if the phone or its surroundings are too hot or cold, or if the phone is being used for demanding tasks.
- Moisture warning: A port-moisture notification can stop charging to protect the phone. Do not charge until the port is completely dry. Samsung advises gently removing moisture, wiping with a soft, clean cloth, and letting the port dry with cool air in a ventilated area. Do not put metal tools or liquids into the port.
- Charge protection: If charging stops below full, check the Battery protection setting before assuming the battery has failed.
If basic checks do not resolve a persistent charging problem, contact Samsung Support or visit a Samsung service center.

When to seek battery service
Lithium-ion batteries gradually lose performance with use. Samsung identifies rapid drain after charging and unexpected shutdowns—particularly in cold conditions—as possible signs of battery aging. Frequent unexpected shutdowns, a noticeable reduction in battery life, or other ongoing battery problems are reasons to request an inspection.
Samsung may display a battery performance degradation alert when performance declines significantly. If you see that alert, Samsung advises having the battery inspected at a service center. A diagnostic result or symptom is a reason to investigate, not a definitive remote diagnosis. Warranty coverage and service cost depend on the applicable warranty terms.
