To change the image that appears when someone shares a Wix page, edit that page’s Social share image, upload or select a file in Media Manager, and publish the site. If you need one default image for pages without their own setting, change General social image in Website settings. Search-result images can follow different fields for dynamic, product, and blog content, so first identify which thumbnail you are trying to change.
First identify which Wix thumbnail you mean
“Thumbnail” can refer to several images. The correct setting depends on where the image is displayed.

Wix describes the page control as the place to “Choose which thumbnail image to display when sharing your site on Facebook, X or other social networks.” A search preview is not necessarily controlled by the same field as a social preview.
Change the thumbnail for one Wix page
Use this route when one static page needs a different image from the rest of the site.

- Open the Wix Editor for your site.
- Click Pages & Menu on the left side of the editor.
- Hover over the page whose thumbnail you want to change.
- Click More Actions.
- Choose Social share. In the classic page-settings route, the equivalent path is Pages & Menu > More Actions > Settings > Social share.
- Click Upload Image.
- In Media Manager, select an existing image. To add a new file, click + Upload Media, choose the file, and wait for it to finish importing.
- Click Add to Page.
- Publish the site. The change remains a draft until you publish.
After publishing, share the page’s public URL rather than the editor URL. If a social network still displays the previous image, follow the cache-refresh steps below.
Set one thumbnail as the site-wide fallback
A general social image is useful when many pages do not have a page-specific image. A page-specific Social share image normally takes precedence; the general image is used when that page has no separate og:image.
- Open your site’s Site Settings.
- Scroll to Site and Domain.
- Click Website settings.
- Find General social image and click Upload Image.
- Choose an existing Media Manager file or upload a new one.
- Click Add Icon.
- Click Save in the upper-right corner.
- Return to the editor and Publish the site.
Use this setting as a fallback, not as a replacement for carefully selected images on important landing pages. To confirm it works, test a page that has no page-level Social share image.

Change thumbnails for dynamic, product, and blog pages
If the image that is wrong belongs to a collection item, product, or blog post, editing a static page’s Social share field may have no effect. Wix exposes page-type rules through the dashboard’s SEO tools.
Use the dashboard SEO settings for a page type
- Open your site dashboard and select SEO & GEO.
- Open SEO Settings.
- Select the relevant page type, such as a dynamic page type, product page, or another collection-driven type.
- Click Edit beside Basics & social share.
- Configure the
og:imagevalue. Wix can use a fixed image URL or variables that resolve to a different image for each item. - Review the X (Twitter) card image setting in the same area if you want X to use a specific card image.
- Save the rule and publish the site.
For a blog post, check the post’s cover image. For a product, check the product’s own image. Dynamic pages generally require an image field from the connected collection and may use variables rather than one file for the entire site.

- A connected social network.
- A direct image URL.
Open Media Manager from the Social share or General social image control, choose the source, and then select the imported file. Finish by clicking Add to Page (for a page-level setting) or Add Icon (for the general site setting), then save and publish.
If you are replacing an existing thumbnail, make sure you select the newly imported file rather than only uploading it. Uploading a file to the library does not automatically change any page’s metadata.

Choose an image that survives social cropping
Wix recommends an og:image aspect ratio of 1.91:1—a width about 1.9 times the height. A wide composition keeps important text and subjects away from the edges and reduces the chance that a social network’s card layout will crop them.

- Keep logos, headings, and faces inside a central safe area.
- Use a single, readable focal point instead of several small details.
- Check the image at the size used in a link preview, not only at full resolution.
- Use the same visual identity across pages, but give major pages their own image when the subject differs.
The 1.91:1 recommendation reduces cropping; it does not force every social network to display the image identically. Each network applies its own card rules.
Publish and refresh an old Facebook preview
Publishing is required before a crawler can retrieve the new metadata. If Facebook continues to show the old image after publication, use Facebook’s Sharing Debugger with the public page URL and request a fresh scrape. Wix’s troubleshooting guidance specifically recommends this sequence: update the thumbnail, publish the site, then use the debugger when Facebook has retained stale data.
Other networks may cache previews independently. Their preview can therefore differ from Facebook even when the Wix Social share setting is correct. Check the public page source or the network’s own preview tool before changing the Wix setting again.

Common problems and fixes
The new image is not visible anywhere
- Cause: The editor change was not published.
- Fix: Click Publish, then test the live URL in a private browser window.
Facebook still shows the previous image
- Cause: Facebook is displaying cached metadata.
- Fix: Run the published URL through Facebook Sharing Debugger and request a new scrape. Do not keep replacing the Wix image unless the debugger shows that Wix is still returning the wrong one.
The search result image did not change
- Cause: Search thumbnails for dynamic, product, or blog content use their own image fields or page-type SEO rules.
- Fix: Edit the relevant item’s cover/product image or open SEO & GEO > SEO Settings, select the page type, and edit Basics & social share.
The image is cropped awkwardly
- Cause: The source image does not fit the social card’s proportions.
- Fix: Prepare a wider image close to the recommended 1.91:1 ratio and keep critical content away from the edges.
A page uses the site image instead of my intended image
- Cause: No page-specific
og:imagewas saved for that page, so Wix is falling back to General social image. - Fix: Return to that page’s Social share setting, choose the intended file, click Add to Page, and publish.
One social network shows a different image
- Cause: Social channels use their own selection and cropping criteria.
- Fix: Confirm that the Wix setting is correct, then use the network’s preview/debugging tool. Wix cautions that a Social share image is likely to be used but is not guaranteed on every channel.
