If you can still sign in, add and verify your new number in Samsung Account’s two-step verification settings before removing the old one. If you can’t receive a code at the old number, start Samsung’s number-change recovery from the verification screen; Samsung says the review can take up to two weeks in the cited US and Canada guidance.
Change your number while you can still sign in
The number used for text-message two-step verification is managed in your Samsung Account security settings. Add the replacement number and verify it with the code sent to that number.
On a Galaxy phone or tablet
- Open Settings, then go to Accounts and backup → Manage accounts → Samsung Account → My profile → Security and privacy → Two-step verification. This menu path is from Samsung UK guidance; labels can differ by device software and market.
- Enter your Samsung Account password if prompted, then choose Text message.
- Tap Add, enter the new number, and tap Send code.
- Enter the code sent to the new number to verify it.
Samsung UK’s step-by-step instructions describe this Galaxy route. Samsung Australia notes that its guidance is designed for Australian-variant Galaxy devices, so use your local support page if the path differs.

- Sign in to the Samsung Account website and open Security.
- Re-enter your password if prompted, then select Two-step verification under Password and security.
- Choose Text message → Edit personal information → Add phone number.
- Enter the new number, request the verification code, and enter the code to confirm it.
Samsung’s US and UK support guides describe the browser procedure. Samsung US instructions and Samsung UK instructions may use labels that vary by region.

Keep the old number until the new one is verified
Add and verify the replacement before deleting the previous number. Samsung Canada says at least one number must remain registered. After the new number is in place, the UK guide also explains how to remove the old number.
If you can’t receive a code at the old number
Use Samsung’s number-change recovery option on the sign-in verification screen rather than repeatedly requesting a text to a number you no longer use.

- At the verification prompt, choose Didn’t get the verification code?
- Choose Need to change your phone number?
- Enter the full new number as requested, including the country code where applicable, then complete the identity-verification steps shown for your account and country.
- Watch for any follow-up verification instructions. Samsung Canada describes an email-verification step.
Samsung says the security review can take up to two weeks in its cited US and Canada guidance. In the US, submitting another request before the first one finishes resets the two-week timeline. The retry guidance is not universal: Samsung’s US page says an incorrect full-number entry may require a 30-minute wait before trying again, while its Canada page says more than five incorrect attempts can temporarily restrict the process for a few hours. Follow the instructions for your country.

Other ways to verify your sign-in
- Another Galaxy device already signed in: Samsung says it may be able to verify the sign-in.
- Backup codes: Use codes saved when you set up two-step verification, if you have them.
- Samsung Support: If neither option is available, Samsung UK advises contacting Support for help. Recovery steps can depend on your market.

Samsung’s support instructions are market- and device-specific. The Galaxy menu path cited above comes from UK guidance; Australia’s page is explicitly for Australian-variant Galaxy devices. Country-code prompts, retry limits, and identity checks can also differ. If a label or step does not match, consult Samsung Support for your country rather than assuming another region’s recovery rules apply.
