If your paired Galaxy Watch Active2 shows menus in the wrong language, change the language on the connected phone. Samsung says a paired watch takes its display language from the phone and that you cannot change this setting on the watch itself.
Change the language on the connected phone
On a Galaxy phone, set your preferred language as the phone’s default:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management, then Language.
- Select the language you want and apply it as the default.
Samsung documents this path in its Galaxy phone and tablet language guide. Menu names and steps can vary by phone model, carrier, and software version.

After changing the phone’s language, check the watch’s menus and screens. Samsung’s guidance is that a paired watch’s display language follows the connected phone.

Display language is different from input language
The display language controls menus and screens. Keyboard, voice-input, and voice-assistant language settings affect entering text or speaking; changing one of those does not change the watch’s menu language.
On Tizen models, Samsung describes a separate language option for Bixby or S Voice: open the assistant, tap the three-dot More options menu, choose the language icon, and select a language. That setting applies only to the assistant, not the watch display.

If the watch language won’t change
- Check the phone’s default language. Confirm you changed the connected phone’s display language, not just its keyboard or voice settings.
- Look for a phone-side language menu with a different label. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide uses Settings, then General or General management, then Languages. Labels vary; the phone guide may call the setting Language.
- Check whether the watch is paired. Samsung says a standalone watch may offer Settings > General > Language. If that option is missing or grayed out on a paired watch, the phone controls the display language. The Active2 pairs through the Galaxy Wearable app; connection screens can vary by phone and software.
- Repeat the phone-side steps and check again. Samsung recommends repeating the language-selection steps if the watch still shows the old language.
- Consider a reset only as a last resort. Samsung’s troubleshooting page lists resetting the watch as a further fallback. Before resetting, follow the normal backup and reset precautions for your device; the troubleshooting page does not provide backup instructions.
Samsung’s wrong-language troubleshooting instructions are explicitly for Galaxy watches sold in the US, so steps may differ elsewhere.
