To control the order of local gaming videos in OBS, add them to a VLC Video Source, turn Shuffle Playlist off, and use the playlist’s file-list order as the sequence. Loop Playlist separately decides whether playback restarts after the final video. VLC must be installed for this source to appear in OBS. The documented workflow is the same in India as elsewhere; it does not address YouTube channel eligibility or regional account rules.

Use VLC Video Source for a sequence of local files

OBS’s built-in Media Source is for playing a single file. For a sequence, use VLC Video Source, which can create a playlist of media items for a scene. This workflow is for video files available on your computer; it is not a way to reorder a YouTube-hosted playlist by pasting its URL into OBS.

  1. Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video Source to appear. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
  2. In OBS, select the scene for your rerun. In the Sources dock, use the add-source control and choose VLC Video Source.
  3. Open the source’s properties and add the local gaming-video files you want to play. Arrange the file list in the intended sequence using the controls available in your installed OBS version.
  4. Leave Shuffle Playlist unchecked for planned playback order. OBS documents that the source plays items in file-list order when shuffle is off.
  5. Set Loop Playlist according to what should happen after the last item: enable it to restart the playlist, or leave it off to stop after the final video.
  6. Confirm the playlist plays as intended in the scene before starting the live stream.

The OBS documentation confirms file-list order, shuffle, and loop behavior, but does not specify the exact current control or gesture for moving an existing playlist entry. Check the properties window in your installed release rather than assuming a drag gesture or button. OBS’s separate Sources ordering controls affect how scene sources stack visually; they do not establish how to reorder videos inside the VLC playlist.

If the VLC Video Source is missing

  • Install VLC, then check OBS again. OBS says VLC must be installed for the source to show up.
  • For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
  • The OBS documentation lists VLC Video Source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It does not describe a country-specific playlist-order setting.

Prepare OBS for YouTube before going live

Playlist order only controls which local file plays next. Your stream’s encoder settings and connection determine whether YouTube receives the video reliably. YouTube recommends RTMPS for live ingest and publishes bitrate recommendations that vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate; there is no single bitrate that fits every setup.

Choose settings that match the output

As examples from YouTube Help’s encoder recommendations checked on October 3, 2026, H.264 at 720p/30 fps is recommended at 8 Mbps, while AV1 or H.265 at that resolution and frame rate is recommended at 6 Mbps. For 1080p/60 fps, the respective recommendations are 17 Mbps for H.264 and 12 Mbps for AV1 or H.265. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that an individual upload connection in India can sustain them. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed 4 seconds.

  • Match your OBS output resolution, frame rate, and codec to the settings you intend to stream.
  • Use YouTube’s encoder recommendations for that combination rather than copying a bitrate from a different resolution or codec.
  • Test motion and audio similar to the planned gaming rerun, and monitor YouTube’s stream health.

YouTube’s guidance is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” If the connection cannot sustain the selected output, lower the settings and test again.

Keep optional ingest cases separate from playlist settings

HDR is a special case requiring compatible HDR content and an encoder; YouTube’s current HDR Live workflow supports H.265/HEVC. YouTube’s OBS RTMPS instructions state a minimum OBS version of 30.1 for that workflow. Most standard SDR gaming reruns do not need HDR configuration.

HLS is another ingest choice, not a playlist feature. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video segments rather than a continuous stream. For HLS ingest, YouTube requires segment durations between 1 and 4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than 5 outstanding segments. These transport requirements do not change the order of local files in OBS.

Common problems and fixes

  • Videos play in an unexpected sequence: Check that Shuffle Playlist is off and inspect the VLC source’s file-list order. Do not change the Sources dock stacking order; it is a different setting.
  • The playlist stops at the end: Enable Loop Playlist if you want it to restart after the final file.
  • VLC Video Source is not available: Install VLC, using the matching 64-bit version for 64-bit OBS, then check the source list again.
  • The stream buffers or loses health: Test the chosen codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate against your upload connection. Use YouTube’s recommendations for the selected output and reduce the output settings if testing shows the connection cannot sustain them.
  • You cannot find a reorder control: The official OBS documentation describes playback according to file-list order but not the exact current UI gesture for moving an existing entry. Inspect the controls in your installed version instead of relying on instructions for scene-source ordering.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is an always-on YouTube rerun rather than managing playback on a local PC, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. Every slot streams the uploaded quality, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required.
