For a wired Nest Doorbell with a digital indoor chime, change how long it rings in the Google Home app: open Home → All devices, touch and hold the doorbell tile, then go to More → Settings → Doorbell and adjust the ring-length slider. That slider changes duration, not the loudness of a traditional wired chime. The right control depends on whether you mean the indoor chime, your Talk and Listen voice, or an announcement on a Google speaker or display.
Change the ring duration on a wired digital chime
First identify the type of indoor chime. A classic “ding dong” with moving parts is probably mechanical; a unit that plays a tone or melody through a speaker is digital. Google’s ring-length slider is for a wired Nest Doorbell paired with a digital chime. A battery-powered Nest Doorbell cannot use a digital chime. Google’s chime troubleshooting guide explains the distinction.
- Open the Google Home app and tap Home → All devices.
- Touch and hold the Nest Doorbell tile.
- Tap More → Settings → Doorbell.
- Move the ring-length slider to the desired duration.
Google documents this setting for Android and iPhone/iPad in its Nest camera and doorbell audio settings.
What to do if the chime is mechanical
Do not increase Chime duration for a mechanical chime. Google recommends turning that setting off for mechanical units; the duration feature is intended for digital chimes. A mechanical chime uses moving parts, so an unsuitable duration setting can interfere with its operation. See Google’s troubleshooting guidance.

Can you make the wired indoor chime louder?
Google’s documented settings provide a ring-duration control and an indoor-chime on/off control, but no software volume slider for the loudness of a traditional wired household chime. The duration slider changes how long the digital chime rings; it does not make the sound louder.
If you use a Google speaker or display for a visitor announcement instead of a wired indoor chime, adjust that device’s volume separately. Google documents voice, touch, and app controls for its speakers and displays in its speaker and display volume guide.

Check the supported-product instructions and audio settings in Google Home.

Turn off the indoor chime for longer
Open the doorbell’s settings and switch off the indoor chime. Quiet Time ending restores the indoor-chime state that was in effect when the timer began. If you switch the indoor chime off while Quiet Time is active, it stays off after the timer ends. These controls are described in Google’s doorbell audio settings.

- Check the controls: Make sure the indoor chime is enabled and Quiet Time is not active.
- Match the setting to the chime: If a digital chime stops too soon to operate properly, try a longer duration. Turn Chime duration off for a mechanical chime.
- Check the installation: Google recommends checking the power source, whether the chime connector or wires obstruct moving parts, and whether the connector matches the doorbell generation.
- For wireless announcements: Confirm the doorbell is online and the compatible Google speaker or display is connected to Wi-Fi and set up correctly. A battery-powered doorbell cannot use a digital chime.
- Handle wiring safely: Switch off breaker power before tightening doorbell-wire connections. For wiring, voltage, or system-compatibility problems, contact a local professional installer or electrician rather than working on live wiring.
Google’s chime troubleshooting article covers chime type, connector placement, and power checks; its audio settings guidance explains wireless speaker announcements.
