FireShot’s save location depends on its version and saving mode. In the free version, FireShot uses the browser’s default Downloads folder. To change the base folder, change the browser’s download location; to stop FireShot from creating its own “FireShot” subfolder, adjust that subfolder in FireShot Options. Saving to an arbitrary folder or cloud folder is listed as a FireShot Pro feature.
First identify which folder setting you need to change
There can be two locations involved: the browser’s Downloads folder, which FireShot may use as its base, and a FireShot subfolder inside it. Changing the browser location affects other downloads too. Changing FireShot’s subfolder is narrower and affects where FireShot saves its captures.
- Want all browser downloads somewhere else? Change the browser’s Downloads location.
- Want FireShot to stop making a “FireShot” subfolder? Look for its folder setting in FireShot Options and clear the subfolder field, if that option is available in your version.
- Need FireShot to save in a separate custom or cloud folder? FireShot’s current onboarding lists that as a Pro feature; the free version uses the browser’s default Downloads folder.
Change FireShot’s folder setting
- Open FireShot’s Options from the extension menu or its settings page. The exact route and labels can vary by browser and version.
- Find the save-location or default-output-folder setting.
- If the setting is for a FireShot subfolder, change its name or clear the field to use the parent folder, if your version offers that control.
- Save the setting and capture a test page to confirm where the file goes.
FireShot support documented the blank-subfolder behavior in a Chrome-on-Windows example: leaving the subfolder field blank uses the parent Downloads folder. That support example dates from 2017, so treat it as version-specific guidance, not a guarantee for every current browser or extension release.
Change the browser’s Downloads folder
If FireShot is using the browser’s Downloads folder as its base, change that folder in the browser’s download settings. This changes the destination for other browser downloads as well, not just screenshots. The exact settings path depends on your browser and version, so use the browser’s current settings search for “Downloads” if the menu labels differ.

When FireShot Pro is needed
FireShot’s current onboarding describes the free version as saving to the browser’s “Default Downloads folder” and lists “Any folder (including cloud folders)” as available in Pro. If you need an independent destination rather than the browser’s Downloads folder, check the current FireShot plan and settings before upgrading.
An older FireShot Pro manual also shows a save dialog with choices to select a folder or specify a destination for each image. It supports the distinction between a browser-default destination and custom saving, but it is not a current step-by-step guide to the present interface.

Troubleshooting
- The screenshot still goes to Downloads: Check whether FireShot is using the browser’s Downloads folder as its base, then check the FireShot subfolder setting separately.
- Other downloads moved too: You changed the browser-wide Downloads destination. Set it back if you only wanted to alter FireShot’s destination, then use FireShot’s own folder setting if available.
- You cannot choose a separate folder: FireShot’s current onboarding lists arbitrary custom folders, including cloud folders, as a Pro feature.
- The setting labels do not match: Labels and menu paths can differ by version and browser. Search FireShot Options for the save location or default output folder rather than relying on an old menu path.
