Open the in-game main menu and choose COSTUME to change an outfit, glasses or other attachment, or hair color. If the cosmetic came from downloadable content (DLC), claim it first from ITEM > DLC; then equip it in COSTUME. The official manual documents these menus for Nintendo Switch/Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Steam.

Change an outfit or equip glasses

  1. Open the in-game main menu and select COSTUME.
  2. Choose the costume, glasses or other attachment, or hair color you want to use.

The official Nihon Falcom manual identifies COSTUME as the menu for changing costumes, attachments, and hair color. The manual text available here does not specify which controller button or keyboard key opens the main menu, so use the in-game menu rather than assuming a particular shortcut.

Claim cosmetic DLC before equipping it

Downloading cosmetic DLC from a platform store does not by itself claim the items for use in the game. The manual says downloaded DLC appears in the DLC tab under ITEM and must be used there to obtain its items.

  1. Obtain the DLC from your platform’s store, if you do not already own it.
  2. In the game, open ITEM and select the DLC tab.
  3. Select the newly added DLC content and choose the option to use it.
  4. Open COSTUME and equip the item you claimed.

The instructions cover Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, and Steam. Store availability and bundle details can differ by platform and region. Official store listings also confirm that obtained costume and glasses items are equipped through COSTUME.

Story unlocks and DLC are not the same route

The COSTUME menu is the documented place to change appearance, but the available official sources do not establish where every story-unlocked outfit appears or what unlocks each one. Not every costume should be assumed to come from DLC. If a downloaded cosmetic is missing, first check ITEM > DLC and use the content there; for a story-earned outfit, check the game’s notices or a guide for its specific unlock condition.

Examples of costume and glasses DLC

Glasses Set A

Nintendo’s official listing names three designs in Glasses Set A: Navy Blue Glasses, Large-Framed Glasses, and XL Star Party Glasses, with 14 of each. The listing directs players to collect downloaded content in ITEM > DLC and equip it from COSTUME. See the Nintendo Glasses Set A listing.

Glasses Set B

A separate Nintendo Glasses Set B listing exists, but its complete item list is not stated in the available listing information. Do not assume it contains the same designs as Set A.

1st Chapter Costume Set

The Nintendo listing for the 1st Chapter Costume Set names mascot and classic-style looks for Estelle and Joshua, swimsuits, the Jenis Royal Academy Uniform Set, and diner costume sets. That listing gives September 24, 2026, as the release date and says the set is included in the Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Season Pass or can be bought separately. These details apply to that listing; dates and bundle details can vary by platform and region. Nintendo warns buyers to avoid purchasing the same content twice if they already have it through the pass. Review the Nintendo costume set listing before buying. The cited DLC requires the base game, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
