What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To change the image people see when they share a Framer URL, open the project’s Site Settings and replace the default social-preview image. For one page only, use that page’s Page Settings; the page image overrides the site default. Save, publish, and check the result in Framer’s Link Preview tool.
What a Framer website thumbnail controls
In Framer, a “website thumbnail” normally means the social preview (also called the Open Graph image) attached to a URL when it is shared in Slack, LinkedIn, X, messaging apps, or another service. It is metadata, not part of the visible page layout.
- It does not replace your browser favicon.
- It does not replace the hero image visitors see inside the page.
- It affects the image that sharing platforms request from the published page.
Framer’s current controls are grouped under page-image settings. The exact control is labelled Social Preview within Page Images in the interface described by Framer Help (2026).

| Scope | Where to configure it | Best use | What happens to other pages |
|---|---|---|---|
| Site-wide default | Project Site Settings | One consistent brand card for the site | Pages without their own image inherit it |
| Single page | That page’s Page Settings | A landing page, product page, or article that needs a different card | Other pages keep their existing setting or the site default |
| CMS item | CMS page Page Settings using an image-field variable | Different cards for individual posts, products, or other collection items | Each item can resolve its own image while the collection template stays shared |
Use Site Settings for the default
The site-level image is the fallback. It is the efficient choice when most URLs should share the same logo, campaign artwork, or brand treatment. Updating one asset changes the default used by every page that has no page-level image.
Use Page Settings for an exception
A page-specific image is appropriate when the shared URL needs context that the general brand card cannot provide. A product launch, pricing page, or article can have its own image without changing cards elsewhere. The page override takes precedence over the global image.
Use a CMS image field at collection scale
For a CMS collection, do not create a manual override for every generated URL. Add an image field, such as Cover image, upload an image for each item, and bind the CMS variable in the collection page’s social-preview setting.
Prepare the image Framer recommends
Framer recommends a 1200 × 630 pixel canvas for social previews. Framer Help states that this is the aspect ratio used for social previews, and Framer’s SEO guidance presents the same Open Graph size.

- Leave breathing room around the edges because platforms can crop or resize the card.
- Use a readable contrast between foreground text and the background.
- Design one general-purpose default, then create page-specific artwork only when it adds useful context.
Prepare the replacement before opening the settings panel so you can compare the old and new card in one pass. The 1200 × 630 recommendation describes the canvas ratio; it does not guarantee that every social network will display identical crops.

Change the site-wide Framer thumbnail
- Open the Framer project. Work in the project that owns the published domain.
- Open Site Settings. This is the project-level location for the default social-image details.
- Find Page Images or Social Preview. Framer’s current interface places the social-preview control under the page-image controls.
- Choose or upload the replacement. Select the prepared 1200 × 630 asset and confirm the selection.
- Save and publish. The new metadata is not available to sharing services until the published site serves it.
- Check Link Preview. Open Framer’s Link Preview tool and inspect the title, description, and image for the public URL.
Use the public URL in the preview check, not only the editor canvas. A published page is the version that Slack, LinkedIn, X, and other services request.
Set a different thumbnail for one Framer page
- Open the target page in the Framer project.
- Open that page’s Page Settings.
- Go to Page Images and locate Social Preview.
- Choose or upload the page-specific image.
- Save, publish, and inspect that URL with Link Preview.
The page-level value takes precedence over the Site Settings default. This lets you keep a consistent fallback while giving high-value pages a more relevant card.
Give every CMS post its own card
- Open the relevant CMS collection.
- Create an Image field, for example Cover image.
- Upload an image for each CMS item.
- Open the CMS page’s Page Settings.
- Under Page Images → Social Preview, select the CMS variable for the image field.
- Publish the site and test URLs for several items in Link Preview.
Each item can now resolve its own social image instead of inheriting one site-wide asset. Test an item with a missing image as well; it should fall back according to the page and site settings you have configured.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsGlobal image or page images: a practical decision
| Question | Global default | Page-specific or CMS image |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | One image for many URLs | One tailored image per page or item |
| Maintenance | Change one asset | Maintain several assets or CMS records |
| Relevance | Strong general brand recognition | Matches the content being shared |
| CMS scale | Manual exceptions | Image field populates cards per item |
A useful pattern is to set a durable brand image globally, add overrides only for pages whose subject matters in the card, and use a CMS field when the number of content items makes manual overrides impractical.
Troubleshoot an old or incorrect preview
The card still shows the old image
Third-party platforms cache social metadata. Framer notes that an external service can continue displaying the previous image after you publish. First confirm the new image in Framer’s Link Preview tool. If Link Preview is correct, allow the platform cache to refresh; Framer does not publish one universal refresh time for every service, so an exact delay cannot be promised.

The wrong page is using the image
Check the scope. A Site Settings image is only the fallback, while a Page Settings image overrides it. Open the exact URL’s Page Settings and inspect Page Images → Social Preview for an unintended selection.
The image changed in the editor but not online
Save the setting and publish the site. Sharing services read the public metadata, not an unpublished editor state. Re-run Link Preview after publishing.
The card is cropped badly
Rework the asset on the 1200 × 630 canvas and move essential text, faces, and logos toward the center. Different services may crop or resize the same source image differently.
You changed the hero image, but the thumbnail did not change
The visible hero and the social-preview metadata are separate. Set the image under Page Images or Social Preview instead of relying on the page’s layout image.
A CMS item has no individual card
Confirm that every item has an image in the CMS field and that the social-preview setting is bound to the CMS variable, not to a fixed file. Then publish and test more than one item.

Pre-share verification checklist
- The image is composed for a 1200 × 630 canvas.
- Important content is centered and readable at a small card size.
- You changed the correct scope: Site Settings, Page Settings, or a CMS variable.
- The project is saved and published.
- Framer Link Preview shows the expected title, description, and image.
- You have checked at least one public URL, not only the editor.
- If another service still shows the old card, you have accounted for its cache rather than changing the Framer setting repeatedly.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a rendered image of the published Framer page as a starting asset, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot from one GET request. It is separate from Framer’s social-preview metadata: use Framer’s Page Images settings to assign the final social card, and use ScreenshotNeo when capturing the page itself is easier than setting up a browser.
ScreenshotNeo can return PNG, JPEG, or WebP. Before capture it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
Replace the example URL with your published Framer URL. The full parameter reference is in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

For a social-card workflow, you can request a full-page capture, a CSS-selected element, a chosen viewport or device preset, dark mode, retina scale, custom CSS or JavaScript, hidden selectors, a wait condition, blocked resources, custom headers or cookies, timezone, geolocation, a transparent background, resizing, or a chosen cache TTL. ScreenshotNeo also supports signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameters used by other screenshot APIs are accepted to make switching easier.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use one social image for the site and still customize selected URLs?
Yes. Keep the image in Site Settings as the fallback, then assign a different image in the selected page’s Page Settings. The page value takes precedence for that URL.
How can I tell whether an old card is caused by Framer or by a sharing service?
Check the public URL in Framer’s Link Preview tool. If it shows the new image after publishing, the remaining old card is being served from the external platform’s cache.
The Bottom Line
Set the default in Site Settings, use Page Settings for exceptions, bind CMS items to an image field, publish, and verify the public URL with Link Preview.
