Start with the buttons on the TV itself: on the Sceptre U50-series model covered by its manual, press the side button to open source selection, use the directional controls to highlight HDMI, then press ENTER. Sceptre button layouts and menus vary by model, so check your TV’s model number and matching manual before relying on those exact steps.
Before you try to change the input
Find the model number on the label on the back or side of the TV, or in its paperwork. Use that number to find the correct Sceptre manual; the controls and shortcut buttons differ across models.
Make sure the HDMI device is connected to the TV and turned on. Sceptre’s U50-series manual says to connect the device’s HDMI output to a port on the display, power on both devices, and select HDMI. If the TV shows no picture after you select the input, also check that the connected device is configured to output video.

U50-series models covered by the manual
- Press the button on the side of the TV to open source selection.
- Use the up or down directional controls to highlight the HDMI input connected to your device.
- Press ENTER to confirm the selection.
These steps come from the Sceptre U50 Series UHD TV User Manual, which describes using the display’s side button to open the source menu and the directional controls and ENTER to select a source. The button arrangement and steps should not be assumed to apply to every Sceptre TV. Read the U50 Series UHD TV User Manual.

If your buttons do not match
Look for buttons on the side, underside, or rear edge of the set, and check the matching manual for how they open or navigate menus. If the controls only cycle through options, keep pressing the source or input control until the connected HDMI port appears. Stop if the menu cannot be opened or confirmed; the manual for your specific model is the authority for its controls.
When the TV buttons are not enough
Use a model-compatible replacement or programmable remote
A replacement or programmable universal remote is a practical fallback if the cabinet controls are inaccessible or cannot select the input. Verify compatibility with the TV’s exact model and confirm that the remote has a source or input control. Do not assume a code or shortcut from one Sceptre model works on another.

For example, the U50-series manual identifies SOURCE as a button that cycles through inputs and HDMI as a direct HDMI selection button. It also says that U50-series displays follow Sony’s universal remote code family. That code-family detail is specific to the U50-series manual, not a universal Sceptre instruction. Check the U50-series remote instructions.

The E246 manual documents a different shortcut: its HOME/MHL button selects HDMI for an MHL connection or regular HDMI. This illustrates why a button labelled HDMI, SOURCE, or HOME/MHL should be interpreted using the manual for the specific model. See the E246 FHD Display User Manual.

Try HDMI-CEC only if both devices support it
CEC can let a remote control HDMI-connected equipment, but its availability and behavior depend on the TV, connected device, and settings. Sceptre describes CEC on its U508CV-UMKR product page; that does not establish that every Sceptre TV will automatically switch to HDMI when a connected device turns on. Check Sceptre’s U508CV-UMKR product information.
Do not count on a phone app without model-specific confirmation
Available manufacturer information does not establish a universal Sceptre phone app for changing inputs or broad support across models. Confirm that an app is officially supported for your exact TV before relying on it.

If HDMI is selected but there is no picture
- Confirm that the TV is set to the HDMI port where the device is connected.
- Check that both the TV and HDMI device are powered on.
- Check the external device’s video-output settings.
- If the set’s controls cannot open or confirm the source menu, consult the exact model’s manual or use a compatible remote.
