First, check which broadcaster carries the match in your location; then use that service’s supported casting method. For eligible international viewers, Watch NRL supports casting from its iOS or Android app to specified Chromecast devices, and AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad. Australian Kayo viewers should follow Kayo’s separate Chromecast setup. Rights and device support vary by service.
Choose the right NRL service for your location
The official NRL live directory lists Nine, 9Now, Kayo and Foxtel for Australia; Sky for New Zealand; and Watch NRL outside Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Treat the directory as a starting point: check the specific match listing for your territory, because a service may not carry every fixture.
Watch NRL describes itself as the international service and says it is unavailable in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. The NRL Official App is not a universal live-match destination: the NRL says live games are carried via broadcast partners, while its app page describes highlights, press conferences and replays. Check the NRL Official App page for its content details.

Cast Watch NRL from a phone or tablet
These steps apply to Watch NRL, not every NRL broadcaster. You need service access in your location, an active subscription, and a supported receiving device. Watch NRL says signup must be completed in a browser rather than through the TV app.

- Confirm Watch NRL carries the match where you are and that your subscription is active. If you still need to subscribe, complete signup in a browser.
- For Chromecast, open the Watch NRL app on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. Tap its cast control and select a supported Chromecast receiver. Watch NRL currently lists Chromecast 3rd Generation and Chromecast with Google TV; casting is available through the app, not its web browser.
- For AirPlay, open the Watch NRL app on an iPhone or iPad and use AirPlay to send the stream to a compatible TV or Apple TV.
- Alternatively, install the Watch NRL app on a compatible Apple TV. Its current list requires Apple TV 4th generation or later running tvOS 19 or later.
Watch NRL says downloaded content cannot be cast to Chromecast. Its compatibility and TV setup pages also say smart-TV browsers and smart-TV apps are unsupported, and warn that HDMI connections can cause playback problems. Use a listed app-based route instead. Check the Watch NRL device and browser compatibility page for current requirements, and its TV streaming guide for setup details.
Cast Kayo from a phone in Australia
Kayo has its own Chromecast instructions. This route is for streaming Kayo content and should not be assumed to work with Watch NRL or another broadcaster’s app.

- App Limitations: Please be aware that certain apps with "HDCP" protocol, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos, Hulu, Comcast TV, Xfinity, Vudu, Sky Go, BT Sport, may not be supported due to copyright protection.
- Sign in to the Kayo app on your phone and open the cast control.
- Select your Chromecast, then choose the NRL fixture.
- Make sure the phone and Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Kayo recommends Chromecast Ultra or later and names Chromecast 3rd Generation and Chromecast with Google TV as examples. See Kayo’s Chromecast instructions for its current setup guidance.

Pick a route based on the phone and TV you already have
- Already have a supported Chromecast: Use the broadcaster’s app and confirm that the receiver model is supported. Watch NRL’s listed Chromecast models are 3rd Generation and Chromecast with Google TV.
- Have an iPhone or iPad and Apple TV or an AirPlay-compatible TV: Watch NRL documents AirPlay as its Apple mobile-device route. A compatible Apple TV can also run the Watch NRL app directly.
- Watching through Kayo: Follow Kayo’s app-specific Chromecast steps and same-Wi-Fi requirement.
- Have a smart TV or HDMI adapter but no listed receiver: Do not assume Watch NRL supports its browser, built-in app or cable connection; its support guidance warns against those routes.
If you already have compatible equipment, there is no need to buy another receiver just to try casting. For Watch NRL, the content must also be streaming rather than downloaded for Chromecast casting.

If the cast option or match does not appear
- Verify the fixture and territory first. Check the official live directory and the broadcaster’s match listing. A device cannot cast a match that the selected service does not carry in your location.
- Confirm the app and device combination. For Watch NRL Chromecast casting, use its phone or tablet app rather than a web browser, and check the service’s current supported-device list. For Apple TV playback, confirm the model and tvOS requirements.
- For Kayo, check the Wi-Fi connection. Its documented setup requires the phone and Chromecast to share a Wi-Fi network.
- Check whether the content was downloaded. Watch NRL says downloaded content cannot be cast to Chromecast; start a live or on-demand stream instead.
- Use a listed route if you are on a TV browser or HDMI connection. Watch NRL says its smart-TV browsers and apps are unsupported and notes that HDMI can cause playback problems.
Device requirements can change. Check the relevant service’s support page if a model or software version no longer matches what is listed here.
