Yes—you can capture website screenshots in Make. Start a scenario with a trigger or schedule, add a native screenshot module when one fits your need, map the target URL (or element selector), then send the returned file to storage, email, or another service. Make lists a URL screenshot action in its HTML to Image/HTML/CSS to Image apps and webpage and element actions in GetScreenshot. If no native app meets your requirements, Make’s HTTP app can call a screenshot API and download its file.
This guide shows how to choose the module, build the scenario, handle files safely, and avoid assumptions about settings that Make’s limited HTML to Image documentation does not specify.
Choose the capture method before building the scenario
Your first decision is what must be captured and what should happen to the result.

GetScreenshot is maintained by Rasterwise, according to its Make listing. You may need an account or credentials with whichever provider you select. Do not assume that an action’s name guarantees identical rendering, authentication, file formats, or limits across providers.

Build a basic scheduled screenshot scenario
1. Create the scenario and select a trigger
- In Make, create a new scenario.
- Choose an event trigger from the app that contains your URL, such as a spreadsheet row, database record, webhook, or form submission.
- For recurring captures, use Make’s scheduling controls instead of an event trigger. Pick the interval that matches the page’s change rate and your provider’s allowance.
Make describes scenarios as workflows made from modules. A trigger supplies data, and later modules map that data into the screenshot action and delivery step.
2. Add the URL screenshot module
- Add the HTML to Image or HTML/CSS to Image app and select its URL screenshot action (listed as “Capture Website Screenshot”).
- Enter a fixed URL or map a URL field from the trigger.
- Save the module, then run the scenario once so Make can show the provider’s actual output.
The HTML to Image API documentation says it cannot provide a complete guide because insufficient public information is available. Consequently, use the fields that appear in your current Make connection and verify provider-specific options in that provider’s documentation rather than relying on invented viewport, browser, delay, or output settings.
3. Capture only an element when that is the real requirement
- Add GetScreenshot and choose “Take Element Screenshot.”
- Provide the page URL.
- Enter the element’s CSS selector, such as
#pricingor.invoice-total, exactly as it appears in the page’s HTML. - Run once and inspect whether the returned object is an image file, a URL, or another provider-defined value.
A selector is more precise than cropping a full-page image later, but it depends on stable markup. If a site changes class names or renders the element only after JavaScript runs, the capture can fail or produce an incomplete result.
4. Map the output to the next module

- Storage: map the returned file data or file URL to your cloud-storage upload module and generate a deterministic filename from the URL and capture time.
- Email or messaging: map the image as an attachment, or pass its URL if the destination expects a link.
- Databases and spreadsheets: store the source URL, timestamp, status, and resulting file link together so later runs are auditable.
For HTML/CSS to Image, Make lists a “Get an Image” retrieval action. If the screenshot module returns a file URL rather than bytes, Make’s HTTP app also provides file-download functionality. Run the upstream module once before mapping downstream fields; Make’s HTTP documentation says parsed response fields become available for mapping after a successful run.
Use Make HTTP when no native screenshot app fits
Make states: “With the HTTP app in Make, you can connect to API services and applications that don’t have an integration with Make.” This is the flexible route for an API that supports the browser, format, authentication, or rendering behavior you need.
HTTP scenario pattern
- Add HTTP > Make a request after your trigger.
- Set the method, URL, query parameters, headers, and body exactly as the screenshot provider documents.
- Use HTTPS. Make says unverified self-signed certificates are rejected.
- Put secrets in Make’s dedicated Credentials field where the app supports it. Make documents this as a way to reduce key exposure and centralize rotation.
- Run the module once and inspect the response. Determine whether it is binary file data, JSON containing a download URL, or an error object.
- If the response contains a file URL, add the HTTP file-download action, then map that file into storage or messaging.
Do not copy fields from one screenshot API to another. The HTTP module does not define the target provider’s endpoint, rendering controls, output format, rate limits, or billing rules; those belong to the provider’s current documentation.
Make the workflow reliable
URL and selector hygiene
- Normalize URLs before capture so tracking parameters do not create unnecessary variants.
- Keep the original URL in a separate field for audit purposes.
- For element captures, prefer stable IDs or semantic attributes over auto-generated class names.
- Test authenticated pages with the provider’s documented cookie or authorization method; a public URL will not automatically include your logged-in session.
Scheduling and file handling
- Schedule only as often as the page needs to be monitored. More frequent runs consume Make operations and any provider allowance faster.
- Include an ISO-style timestamp in filenames to prevent accidental overwrites.
- Store the provider response status with the file. A successful HTTP request can still contain an application-level error.
- Use a separate error route to notify an operator and record the failing URL, module, and response message.
Run once before mapping
Make cannot expose fields that have not appeared in an actual module output. Run the scenario with a representative URL, inspect the bundle, and only then map image bytes, a file URL, or metadata into later modules. Repeat this after changing providers or output modes.

Troubleshoot common failures
The screenshot action is missing
Cause: the selected app or connection does not expose that action, or its current listing has changed. Fix: check both HTML to Image/HTML/CSS to Image and GetScreenshot. If neither offers the required capture, use HTTP with the provider’s current API instructions.
The result is blank or incomplete
Likely causes: the page requires JavaScript, content is loaded after the provider’s capture point, the URL is private, or the selector does not exist. Fix: verify the URL in a normal browser, confirm authentication requirements, test a full-page action, and re-check the selector. Rendering waits and browser controls are provider-specific and cannot be inferred from Make’s generic HTTP module.
Element capture returns an error
Cause: an invalid or unstable CSS selector. Fix: inspect the page’s current markup, use a selector that uniquely identifies the element, and test again after the page has rendered the component.
Downstream modules show no file fields
Cause: the scenario has not produced a sample output, or the provider returned JSON rather than binary data. Fix: run the screenshot module once, inspect the bundle, and add a file-download step when the response contains a URL.

HTTP authentication fails
Cause: the API expects a different header, query parameter, body field, or credential type. Fix: reproduce the provider’s documented request exactly, keep secrets in Make’s Credentials field where available, and use HTTPS. Never paste a live key into a public text field or filename.
Make rejects the TLS connection
Cause: the endpoint uses an unverified self-signed certificate. Fix: use a publicly trusted certificate; Make documents rejection of unverified self-signed certificates.
