PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a page rendered inside your iOS app, load the URL in a retained WKWebView, wait until navigation and page-specific JavaScript are ready, then call takeSnapshot(with:completionHandler:). That produces an asynchronous UIImage for the web view’s configured viewport. A viewport image is not automatically a full, arbitrarily long page: use an appropriate PDF/full-page strategy or send the URL to a hosted renderer when the output must include the entire document.
Choose the capture path before writing code
There are three different jobs that are often called an “iOS website screenshot.” Selecting the wrong one causes cropped pages, missing lazy-loaded images or an app that depends on a hidden browser view.
- Capture content your app renders: use
WKWebView.takeSnapshot(with:completionHandler:). You control the viewport, cookies, JavaScript and timing. - Capture a long document: use a full-page/PDF-capable approach rather than assuming a normal snapshot will grow to the page’s total height.
- Capture a URL remotely: call a hosted screenshot API from your app or backend. The service owns browser startup, rendering and full-page stitching.
Hosted browser emulation can reproduce a mobile viewport, but it is not a photograph of a physical iPhone. Validate important pages at the viewport and scale your product actually needs.
Native Swift capture with WKWebView
1. Create and retain the web view
A web view must remain alive for the complete navigation and snapshot operation. Set the frame or configuration to the viewport you want represented; a 390-point-wide view, for example, approximates a common iPhone layout but does not by itself emulate every physical device behavior.

import UIKit
import WebKit
final class WebScreenshotController: NSObject, WKNavigationDelegate {
private let webView: WKWebView
private var completion: ((Result
The API is asynchronous and returns a platform-native image from the web view’s contents. Save the result through your normal image or file pipeline:
capture(url: URL(string: "https://example.com")!) { result in
DispatchQueue.main.async {
switch result {
case .success(let image):
let png = image.pngData()
// Write png to a file, upload it, or display the image.
case .failure(let error):
print("Screenshot failed: (error)")
}
}
}
2. Wait for the page your user will actually see
didFinish means navigation completed; it does not guarantee that a single-page application has fetched its data or that a chart, font or lazy image has painted. For dynamic pages, evaluate a small JavaScript readiness flag or wait for a known DOM condition before taking the snapshot. Keep that wait bounded with a timeout so an absent selector cannot hold a job forever.
func waitUntilReady(_ webView: WKWebView,
completion: @escaping (Bool) -> Void) {
webView.evaluateJavaScript("document.documentElement.dataset.screenshotReady === 'true'") { value, _ in
completion((value as? Bool) == true)
}
}
Have the page set document.documentElement.dataset.screenshotReady = 'true' after it inserts its final content. If you do not control the page, use a short delay plus a bounded polling loop and test the result visually.
3. Configure the capture rectangle
WKSnapshotConfiguration lets you specify the rectangle to capture. A normal configuration captures the web view’s viewport. It does not promise an image whose height equals an arbitrarily long document. Long pages also expose sticky headers, animations, cross-origin resources and lazy loading that can change what is rendered.
Recommended Free Tools
When the deliverable is a complete document, choose a PDF/full-page route that matches your requirements, or render the URL on a server with an explicit full-page option. Test pages containing lazy-loaded images and fixed-position elements instead of assuming that a stitched image will be identical to a user scroll.

What UIScreenshotService does—and does not do
UIScreenshotService coordinates PDF data for the system screenshot flow. Your app supplies a delegate, and UIKit asks that delegate for PDF data when a person takes a screenshot. Beginning with iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, people can share or save the generated full-page screenshot as a PDF or image. This is useful when integrating with the system screenshot experience; it is not a general URL-to-image REST endpoint and does not replace WKWebView capture for an automated API workflow.
Calling a hosted screenshot API from an iOS app
A hosted service is appropriate when the client should submit a URL and receive an image or PDF without embedding and maintaining a rendering surface. Put credentials on your server whenever possible; shipping a reusable API secret in an App Store binary makes extraction easier. If a provider requires client-side calls, use its restricted key and enforce your own URL and quota policy.

cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
const buffer = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
From Swift, make the same HTTPS GET with URLSession, preferably through your backend:
var components = URLComponents(string: "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot")!
components.queryItems = [
URLQueryItem(name: "access_key", value: apiKey),
URLQueryItem(name: "url", value: "https://example.com")
]
let (data, response) = try await URLSession.shared.data(from: components.url!)
try (data as NSData).write(to: outputURL, options: .atomic)
Inspect X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed in the response. They tell your job-processing code whether the page was a clean capture and whether it counted against usage.
Options useful for iOS workflows

Reliability, performance and cost decisions
Native rendering
- Reuse a controlled web-view lifecycle rather than creating many simultaneous views; bound navigation and readiness waits.
- Keep the viewport, scale and color behavior consistent across captures, and disable or accommodate animations when repeatability matters.
- Large images consume memory when converted to
UIImage. Downsize or write the data promptly, and avoid holding a batch of full-resolution results in memory. - Cookies, authentication state and JavaScript execution are under your control, but so are page failures, consent overlays and anti-bot challenges. Log navigation errors and the URL without recording secrets.
Hosted rendering
- Use asynchronous jobs and signed webhooks for slow or high-volume pages; use bulk capture where supported instead of opening one request per URL.
- Set a cache TTL when a page can tolerate reuse. It reduces work, but a cache hit may not represent the newest page state.
- Specify full-page behavior explicitly and test lazy loading, sticky elements, fonts, redirects and authentication.
- Budget by successful captures and check provider-specific limits. ScreenshotNeo exposes billing and verdict headers so your accounting can distinguish clean shots from non-billable failures.
Troubleshooting checklist
The image is blank or stops at the viewport
Confirm that navigation succeeded, the web view has the intended nonzero frame, and your snapshot rectangle is inside its bounds. For a long page, switch to a documented full-page/PDF method or a hosted renderer; do not merely enlarge the viewport and assume the document will paint.

Content loaded after the snapshot
Wait for a page-owned readiness marker, a selector or network-idle condition. A fixed delay alone is fragile on slow networks. For hosted requests, use the provider’s selector, delay or network-idle controls.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Cookie banners, chat or newsletter overlays cover the page
Dismiss them in your own JavaScript or UI before calling the native snapshot. ScreenshotNeo handles consent banners and the specified popup and chat platforms before capture.
Images are missing
Lazy images may require scrolling or a renderer that explicitly loads them. Check cross-origin restrictions, failed resource requests and whether the page requires authentication cookies or headers.
The API returns an error or an unexpected format
Check URL encoding, credentials, HTTP status and the requested output extension. Keep the response body for diagnostics, but do not expose API keys in client logs. For ScreenshotNeo, read X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed and verify that the target URL is encoded as a query parameter.
The result does not look like a real iPhone
A hosted service’s iPhone profile is browser/device emulation. Compare it with a physical-device capture when camera cutouts, Safari chrome, hardware scale or OS-specific rendering is part of the requirement.

Practical decision guide
- Choose
WKWebViewwhen the page is already inside your app and you need local cookies, JavaScript or app-controlled timing. - Choose a PDF/full-page workflow when the output is a complete document rather than a viewport proof.
- Choose a hosted API when you need repeatable URL-to-image jobs, server-side execution, batch processing or AI-agent tooling without maintaining browser surfaces.
- Use a physical iPhone test for claims about actual device pixels; use emulated mobile viewports for scalable web-rendering automation.
FAQ
Can an iOS app screenshot any public URL without showing a browser?
Yes, if you send the URL to a hosted screenshot service. A local implementation still needs a rendering surface such as WKWebView; an HTTP client alone cannot execute the page and paint its pixels.
Should I return PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF?
Use PNG for sharp UI and transparency, JPEG for photographic pages where smaller files matter, WebP when your receiving pipeline supports it, and PDF when pagination or document sharing is the requirement. Confirm that your selected renderer supports the format and full-page behavior together.
Is a full-page screenshot the same as a system full-page screenshot?
No. System full-page capture is coordinated through UIKit’s screenshot flow and produces PDF/image sharing on supported OS versions. Automated URL capture requires your own web-view/PDF implementation or a hosted renderer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does takeSnapshot wait for network idle automatically?
No. It captures when you call it. Implement a page-specific readiness condition or bounded wait before invoking the method.
Can I protect a hosted screenshot API key in an iOS app?
Treat a key embedded in an app as extractable. Prefer a backend proxy or a provider key restricted to the minimum operations and quota.
