To capture Google results for a Tamil Nadu regional test, set the intended region in Google Search settings, optionally emulate browser geolocation in Chrome DevTools, then capture the visible viewport or full page in Chrome Device Mode. Record the query, settings, location attribution and capture time with the image. These steps produce a repeatable, documented snapshot—not proof that every searcher in Tamil Nadu sees the same results.

Choose what kind of regional test you are running

Before changing settings, decide whether you want to test a Google Search region preference, browser geolocation, or an approximation of a local user’s search. These are different conditions. Google offers a Search region setting, while Chrome can emulate geolocation for browser testing; neither one alone establishes every signal Google may use for an individual results page.

  • Region-preference test: choose a Search region and capture the results.
  • Browser-geolocation test: choose a Search region if relevant, then apply a Chrome geolocation override and capture.
  • Local-user approximation: combine and document the available settings, while noting that account, IP address, activity and other context may still differ from an actual user’s.

Choose a target city or locality in Tamil Nadu, the exact query, the language, and the test type. Use the same query and language in each comparison run.

Set Google Search to the intended region

  1. Open Google Search settings on your desktop browser.
  2. Open Region Settings, select the intended region, and save the setting.
  3. Run the query and retain the results page with the query visible.

Google says Search results are customized to the current region and provides this setting to see results for another country or region. It is a region preference, not a city-level GPS control. See Google’s instructions for seeing results for a different country.

Typing a country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) is not a substitute for changing this preference. In a 2017 post, Google Search product manager Evelyn Kao wrote: “Typing the relevant ccTLD in your browser will no longer bring you to the various country services—this preference should be managed directly in settings.” Google’s 2017 explanation.

Emulate a location in Chrome when the test needs it

  1. Open Chrome DevTools.
  2. Open the Command Menu: press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows, Linux or ChromeOS, or Command+Shift+P on macOS.
  3. Type Sensors and choose Show Sensors.
  4. In the Sensors panel, select a location preset or enter custom coordinates for the target location.
  5. Reload the page if it needs to read geolocation when it loads.

Chrome documents geolocation emulation for testing web behavior. The override supplies a browser location input; Chrome’s documentation does not promise it overrides Google’s IP, account, history or other search context. Google says it estimates search location from multiple sources, including device location, account home or work, past activity and internet address. Read Chrome’s Device Mode documentation and Google’s location guidance.

Check permission and the location shown by Google

Handle the browser’s location permission deliberately: a browser can allow or block sending device location to google.com. After the search, inspect any location attribution shown on the results page. Google may identify whether the location was estimated from the device, internet address or other sources. Note both the permission state and the displayed attribution rather than assuming the DevTools override controlled the SERP. Google’s help explains how location is used and managed in Search.

Capture the viewport or the full results page

  1. In Chrome, enable Device Mode in DevTools if you need to specify or reproduce a viewport or device layout.
  2. Open the DevTools More options menu.
  3. Choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport, or Capture a full size screenshot for the page beyond the viewport.
  4. Check the image includes enough context to identify the query and interpret the results.

Chrome documents both screenshot options in its Device Mode guide. Device Mode controls the browser presentation used in the capture; it does not make a simulated SERP identical to what a person in Tamil Nadu sees.

Keep a record that makes the screenshot interpretable

Save a small test record alongside each image. This is a practical documentation method, not a Google-required reporting template.

  • Date and time in UTC
  • Exact query and language
  • Selected Search region
  • Target city or locality and coordinates, if used
  • Whether a browser geolocation override was applied, and the permission state
  • Browser, Device Mode or viewport settings
  • Account and personalization state, where known
  • Location attribution displayed on the results page

For a comparison across Tamil Nadu locations, keep query, language, viewport and account state consistent; change one location variable at a time. Treat differences as snapshots: results can vary with time and context. Google describes multiple location inputs in its Search location guidance.

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does selecting Tamil Nadu in Google Search settings set a city-level location?

No. The Search region setting is for a country or region; it is not a city-level GPS selector.

Does a Chrome geolocation override guarantee the same Google results as someone in Chennai?

No. It emulates a browser location input, but Google describes other location signals, including IP address, account places and past activity.

Can Google results change between two captures with the same settings?

Yes. Treat each image as a time- and context-specific snapshot, and record the conditions so comparisons are interpretable.
