Use Selenium to open the official service for the court you need, complete a case search using that page’s supported controls, wait for the result content to appear, and then save a screenshot of the page or the result element. There is no single locator or workflow for every Indian court portal: adapt the search steps and selectors to the specific service.
How to capture a court case status result with Selenium
Selenium offers two useful capture scopes: a screenshot of the browser’s current view and a screenshot of one selected element. Use the page capture when surrounding court-service context matters; use the element capture when you need a focused result block. Selenium documents both methods in its WebDriver screenshot documentation.

- Choose the official service. The e-Committee’s eCourts Services Portal is a central gateway to High Court and District Court services, but individual court services may have different layouts and controls.
- Complete a search supported by that page. Depending on the service, search options can include CNR, case number, filing number, party name, advocate name, FIR number, Act, or case type. Do not assume every option is available on every court page.
- Wait for the result, not merely navigation. Case history or other result content may be rendered or updated after the page loads. Wait for a result-specific element to become visible.
- Save the appropriate screenshot. Capture the browser view for context or the result element for a focused image.
- Close the browser session. Record the service, search route, capture time, and whether the image shows the full view or a result element in the surrounding record.
Here is a Python template using explicit waits and both screenshot scopes. The service URL, search interaction, selector, and timeout are examples to adapt; .case-result is not a universal eCourts selector.

Selenium’s wait documentation recommends explicit waits for specific conditions and warns that combining implicit and explicit waits can produce unpredictable timing.

Choosing the right court service and search route
The official eCourts service is a family of services, not one uniform results page. The e-Committee portal describes case-status searches through parameters such as case number, FIR number, party name, advocate name, filing number, Act, or case type. The official eCourts app help describes selecting High Court, District Court, or both, and searching by CNR and other available routes. A successful search can lead to case-history sections covering details, status, hearing history, and orders.
The official eCourts FAQ describes case-history information including status, hearing dates, judge details, party and advocate information, FIR details, and proceedings. Treat these as service capabilities, not guarantees that every field appears on every court’s page. Inspect the current interface for the specific court before writing locators.
Wait for a meaningful result state
A completed page navigation does not prove that a JavaScript-driven case result has finished updating. Use a condition tied to the result, such as visibility of a case-history heading or a known result container. An explicit wait lets the capture proceed when that condition is met instead of relying on an arbitrary pause. Avoid mixing implicit and explicit waits because Selenium warns that doing so can make wait timing unpredictable.

The example’s 20-second wait is an adjustable template value, not a guarantee that every court service will respond within that time. Choose a result condition that distinguishes a loaded case result from an empty search, an error, or a still-loading page.
Choose screenshot scope and preserve context
Full browser view
driver.save_screenshot("case-status.png") captures the current browser view. Use it if the selected court service, page context, or surrounding details help a reader understand the result.
Result element
result.screenshot("case-result.png") captures the chosen element. Use it when the result block alone is sufficient and a tighter image is clearer.

Capture only the area needed to communicate what should be checked. For repeatable comparisons, keep viewport and zoom consistent, and record which service and search route produced the image. Those are workflow practices; the exact page appearance depends on the selected court service.
Keep the screenshot in context
A screenshot records what appeared at one moment; it does not establish that the case information remains current. The official eCourts FAQ says an active internet connection is required to access updated case information. For a record someone else can interpret later, preserve the selected court service, search route, time of capture, and the scope of the screenshot alongside the image.
Troubleshooting common capture problems
The script cannot find the result selector
The selector may not exist on that court’s page, or it may not identify the result content. Inspect the current page markup and choose a locator specific to the selected service. The sample .case-result selector is illustrative, not a shared eCourts standard.

The screenshot is blank or misses the updated result
The capture may run before dynamic result content appears. Wait for a result-specific visibility condition rather than treating navigation completion or a fixed pause as proof that the result is ready.
The explicit wait times out
Check that the case search was actually submitted, that the chosen locator matches the current page, and that the page returned a result rather than an empty search or error. Adjust the wait only after verifying the condition and service behavior; a longer timeout cannot fix an incorrect selector or unsupported search route.

That is expected across a family of court services. Confirm the target court and inspect its current controls and result layout. The eCourts home page identifies NIC as the site maintainer and displays a last-updated date of 11 April 2026; interfaces and terms can change, so re-check the selected service when implementing.
