To screenshot a product variant clearly, select the size, color, or other option first, wait for the product page to update, then capture the selected label and its matching product image together. Include the price or other identifying details when they help show exactly which variant is selected.
Prepare the product page before capturing
- Open the product page and select the intended size, color, or other variant.
- Wait for the selection to register. Confirm the option is visibly selected, and check whether the product image and price have changed to match.
- Position or resize the page so the selected value and corresponding image are visible in the same frame. Keep enough page context to identify the product.
- Capture a selected region if everything fits. Use a full-page or scrolling capture only when relevant details are separated vertically.
- Open the saved screenshot and verify that the option is legible and selected and that the image matches. If the page did not update, select the option again and recapture.
On a Shopify storefront, a variant represents a combination of option values. A merchant can assign an image to a variant so it appears as the preview when that variant is selected; additional related images can remain in the product gallery. The exact behavior depends on the store’s theme and implementation. Shopify’s Combined Listings app can display image groups for an option, but availability is plan-dependent. Shopify’s theme guidance says the selected variant should be reflected in the selector, product media, and price. If one of those still shows the previous choice, the page may not have finished updating or the theme may handle the selection differently. See Shopify’s variant support guidance.
Choose the right capture method for your device
A selected-area screenshot usually makes the chosen size easiest to read. Capture a window or the full screen when surrounding page context is important. A full-page or scrolling capture helps when the variant selector and image cannot fit together, but the selected control may be less prominent in a long image.

Windows 10 and 11
- Press Windows+Shift+S to open the Snipping Tool capture overlay.
- Choose a rectangular snip and drag around the product image and selected option. Choose window or full-screen capture if you need more context.
- Review and save the capture, then check that the selected label remains readable.

Mac
- Press Shift-Command-4 and drag to select the area containing the chosen variant and its image.
- For other capture and save options, press Shift-Command-5 to open Screenshot controls.
- Open the saved image and verify the selection and product context.

iPhone
- On Face ID models, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together.
- On Touch ID models, use the appropriate side or top button with the Home button.
- For a long webpage in Safari, use Full Page when it is offered. You can save the result as an image or PDF; crop it if needed to make the selected option clearer.

- On many devices, press Power+Volume Down together.
- On Android 12 and later, many devices offer Capture more for scrolling screens that support it. Availability varies by device and screen.
- If the shortcut differs, check the device manufacturer’s instructions.

Common problems and fixes
- The size is selected, but the image or price still shows the old variant: Wait for the page to update, select the option again, and confirm the image and price before capturing. Store themes may implement variant changes differently.
- The screenshot shows the image but not the selected size: Reposition the page or use a wider capture that includes the selector. Make sure the selected label is not hidden behind a menu or cropped at the edge.
- The selected value and image are far apart: Use a full-page or scrolling capture, then review whether the selection is still easy to find in the longer image. If possible, adjust the page layout or zoom so both fit in one frame.
- The screenshot looks ambiguous without context: Include the product name and, where useful, the displayed price. Avoid cropping so tightly that it is unclear which product or page the variant belongs to.
- The mobile shortcut does not work: Check the device-specific instructions; button combinations and scrolling-capture support vary across models.

Can a screenshot prove which product size was selected?
It can show the visible selection and matching product details at the time of capture, but it does not independently verify an order or purchase.
Should I capture the whole page or just the product area?
