Give an AI agent a list of URLs and clear capture requirements, then have it use a browser automation tool to visit each page, save a uniquely named screenshot, and report any failures. Playwright provides the browser operations; the loop, file naming, and per-URL error handling are workflow code you add. Decide first whether you need the visible viewport, a specific element, or the full page.
Choose the capture method before sending the URL list
A screenshot records how a page rendered at a particular moment; it is not proof that the page is accessible, that its text is accurate, or that another browser or viewport will render it identically. Tell the agent what each image should include and what state the page should be in before capture.
- Viewport: captures the currently visible browser area. Use this when you want a consistent, above-the-fold view.
- Full page: captures the scrollable page, including content below the fold. Playwright’s screenshot command supports
--full-page; lazy-loaded content and pages with unusual scrolling behavior may need separate attention. - Specific element: captures a selected page element, such as a chart or product card. Playwright’s command-line screenshot documentation covers element capture. In the Playwright MCP screenshot tool, full-page capture cannot be combined with a target element.
Choose an output format and image scale as well. Playwright’s screenshot command supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP; the Playwright MCP tool offers a scale choice between CSS-pixel and device-pixel sizing. These settings are interface-specific, so confirm the options for the Playwright interface you are using: Playwright screenshot command options and Playwright MCP screenshot options.
Give the agent a precise batch instruction
Make the task concrete enough to run without guesswork. Specify the URLs, capture scope, output directory, format, viewport dimensions, and any page-specific condition for when a page is ready. Ask the agent to preserve the input URL alongside each filename and continue if one URL fails.

For example:
For each URL in this list, open it in Chromium and save a full-page PNG in
screenshots/. Name each file with its list index and hostname. Wait for the page to finish loading and, for pages that need more time, wait for the specified selector. Record the URL, output filename, and any navigation or screenshot error in a results file. Continue to the next URL after an individual failure. Do not claim that a page passed accessibility or content checks based only on its screenshot.
Replace “full-page PNG” with the capture scope and format you chose. Avoid putting sensitive URLs, credentials, or page contents into logs that other people or systems can access.
Run a repeatable Playwright batch locally
The following Node.js example uses Playwright’s documented per-page navigation and screenshot operations in a loop. It takes a URL list from a text file, writes one PNG per URL, and records successes and failures in results.json. It uses full-page capture; change fullPage to false for a viewport image.

Prerequisites: Node.js, a project with Playwright installed, and the Chromium browser binary installed for Playwright. Save the script as capture.mjs and put one URL per line in urls.txt.

The script’s load condition waits for the page’s load event, not for every application-specific update or every lazy image. If a site renders important content later, add a selector wait for that site or choose a deliberate delay; do not assume a fixed wait fits every URL. The Page API documents navigation and screenshot calls, while the loop and results format above are an implementation pattern: Playwright Page API.
What the batch records—and what it does not
Each result associates the original URL with a filename and either an ok status or an error message. This makes it possible to identify which input produced each image and to retry failures selectively. The example does not validate screenshot contents, retry errors, or guarantee that a site allowed navigation. Add those behaviors only when they suit your workload.

It reuses one browser page sequentially, which keeps the control flow simple and avoids starting a new browser for every URL. For very large lists or slow sites, consider bounded parallelism and per-site rate limits rather than launching every capture at once. Too many simultaneous pages can consume memory and trigger site defenses; the documentation cited here does not establish a universal safe batch size.
Use an AI agent through Playwright MCP
If your agent is connected to Playwright MCP, give it the same URL list and capture requirements, then ask it to navigate, capture each page, and return a URL-to-file mapping with individual errors. Playwright MCP distinguishes visual screenshots from accessibility snapshots: screenshots help inspect visual layout, while structured snapshots help an agent understand page structure and interact with controls. Use the representation suited to the task; a screenshot alone is not a structured accessibility or content audit. See the Playwright MCP screenshots documentation.
For an automated batch that must run predictably, prefer an explicit loop such as the Node.js example over relying on an agent to infer retries, filenames, or completion criteria. The agent can still prepare the URL list, choose page-specific waits, or review the resulting images, while the script handles repeatable capture and reporting.

When a hosted browser is a better fit
A local Playwright run uses browser resources in an environment you manage. If the workflow needs a hosted browser, Cloudflare documents browser tools for agent inspection and interactive, multi-step automation as a beta feature. Confirm current availability and product limits before depending on it: Cloudflare Browser tools documentation. A hosted browser is an execution option, not a guarantee that every site will load, permit automation, or render identically.

- Browser executable missing: Playwright is installed but its browser binary is not. Install the Chromium browser supported by your Playwright setup, then rerun the script.
- Navigation times out: the page may be slow, unreachable, or waiting on resources that do not finish. Check the URL and network access; use an appropriate timeout or a more suitable readiness condition for that site. Record the failure instead of silently treating it as a screenshot.
- Screenshot is blank or incomplete: the page may render content after the load event or load images only as they approach the viewport. Wait for a relevant selector or use a page-specific wait strategy; inspect the saved image rather than assuming the navigation event means the page is visually ready.
- Output files overwrite each other: hostnames alone are not unique when the list contains multiple paths on one domain. The example prefixes the index to keep names distinct; preserve that index or another unique key when changing the naming scheme.
- One failure stops the run: keep navigation and capture inside the per-URL
tryblock, as shown, so the script records that failure and proceeds to later inputs. - Full-page capture conflicts with element capture: choose one scope for the capture. In Playwright MCP,
fullPageand a target element cannot be used together. - Agent cannot find a control or explain layout from an image: use an accessibility snapshot or other structured page data for page structure and interaction; use the screenshot for visual inspection.

Can I use a screenshot to confirm a page is accessible?
No. A screenshot shows a rendered visual state; accessibility requires separate checks, such as examining structured accessibility information.
Should I capture every URL in parallel?
Not by default. Start with sequential capture, then introduce bounded concurrency only after considering browser resources and each site’s rate limits.
