For independent captures of Indian news pages, start with Browserless’s stateless POST /screenshot REST API: send a URL, an API token, and capture options, then save the returned image. Use full-page capture and scroll the page first when an article loads content as you move down. For workflows requiring interaction or extracted page data, choose a scripted browser session or Smart Scrape instead. Browserless documents these capabilities, but does not establish a universal safe request rate or permission to automate individual publishers.
Choose the Browserless route for the job
| Route | Best suited to | Output or behavior |
|---|---|---|
REST POST /screenshot |
One independent screenshot per request | PNG, JPEG, or WebP image from a URL or raw HTML, with screenshot options. Browserless Screenshot API documentation |
Smart Scrape with formats: ["screenshot"] |
A screenshot requested alongside other page outputs | Base64 PNG in the response; requesting screenshot format forces a headless browser. Browserless Smart Scrape API documentation |
| Scripted browser workflow | Multiple actions, branching, or conditional interaction before capture | A managed browser session; choose this when a single REST request cannot express the needed navigation logic. See Browserless REST API guidance and its URL scraping guide. |
The Browserless REST APIs use an API token for authentication. Keep it server-side or in a secret manager; do not put it in browser-side code or public repositories. See the REST API introduction for endpoint and authentication guidance.
Make one screenshot request
Send a POST to the Browserless screenshot endpoint with the page URL and token, plus options supported by the endpoint. Consult the Screenshot API reference for the current request shape and parameter names; the examples below show the request pattern without inventing a token or undocumented parameter values. Save the response as an image and record the URL and options used.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A response alone does not prove that the intended article was captured. Validate the image and treat blank output, a CAPTCHA, or an access-denied page as a failed or blocked visit, not as a successful article screenshot.

Set capture options for news pages
Choose the capture area and output format
- Full article: enable full-page capture for a long story. Where content loads on scroll, use the documented
scrollPage: trueoption together with full-page capture. - Specific region: target an element with a selector, or use clipping options to capture a fixed rectangle. Validate that the selector matches the intended page element.
- File format: choose PNG for lossless visual detail, or JPEG/WebP when smaller files suit the downstream system. Confirm that the receiving workflow accepts the selected format.
- Consistent comparisons: use the same viewport and device scale for pages you intend to compare. Adjust them only when a page template requires it, and record the settings with each capture.
The API also documents quality, viewport, device scale, clipping, selectors, and waits. The documentation does not prescribe a single configuration for Indian news sites; test representative pages before running a large collection. See the endpoint options.
Wait for meaningful page state
Dynamic pages may render after the initial navigation. Prefer a meaningful selector or relevant page event over an arbitrary short delay when the site and endpoint support it. For lazy-loaded stories, request scrolling before full-page capture. Selectors and wait conditions vary by publisher and template, so validate them on sample pages.
Rank #2
Run a batch as an observable workflow
- Prepare a manifest. Store each target URL with a stable record ID and any site or page metadata needed to identify the expected result.
- Capture with explicit settings. For each request, save the response image alongside the URL, capture timestamp, viewport, device scale, format, and other options.
- Record outcomes. Log response status and whether the image contains the expected page, an error, a blank screen, or a challenge. Keep failures distinct from successful article captures.
- Retry selectively. Retry only failures that appear transient, with bounded attempts and recorded delays. Repeated CAPTCHA or access-denied results require review rather than repeated retries.
- Validate a representative sample before expanding. Include home pages, long articles, and pages with dynamic elements. Check image dimensions, clipping, expected content, and whether lazy-loaded sections appeared.
These are workflow practices, not Browserless rate guarantees. The reviewed documentation gives no universal concurrency setting, throughput target, or sustainable request rate for Indian publishers. Do not infer a safe batch size from the fact that requests can be automated.

If the purpose is visual preservation, store the screenshot as the visual artifact. If you also need searchable text or structured content, use an appropriate Browserless content or scrape endpoint as a separate step and label each output with its originating request. Browserless documents screenshots, rendered content, and structured scraping as distinct tasks; a screenshot is not a substitute for a text extraction workflow.

Check publisher access and reuse conditions
Automation permission is publisher-specific. Before capturing at scale, review each target site’s current terms, access controls, and intended-use requirements. The exact publishers and use case determine what applies; Browserless documentation does not establish blanket permission to automate Indian news websites. If screenshots will be shared or republished, check reuse rights separately. A successful image response does not grant those rights.
Troubleshoot incomplete or blocked captures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Blank or white image | The capture may have run before content rendered, or the site may be blocking automation. | Inspect the response and image, revise the wait condition if rendering is the issue, and mark a blocked visit for review. Browserless flags blank screenshots as a possible automation-blocking symptom in its troubleshooting guidance. |
| CAPTCHA or 403/access-denied screen | The visit was blocked or challenged rather than displaying the article normally. | Record it as blocked, not as a valid article capture. Do not treat repeated retries as proof of success. Browserless identifies CAPTCHA and access-denied screens as blocking signs in its documentation. |
| Article appears cut off or missing sections | Content may be lazy-loaded, or the capture area may be limited to a viewport or selector. | Try scrolling before full-page capture, verify the selected element or clipping rectangle, then inspect the resulting image. |
| Need a click or conditional navigation before capture | A single stateless REST request cannot branch interactively mid-execution. | Use a scripted browser workflow for the required actions, then capture after the page reaches the intended state. See Browserless’s scripted and URL workflow guidance. |
| Image format or dimensions do not fit the next system | The requested output format, viewport, or device scale may not match downstream requirements. | Set the documented format and dimensions deliberately, then verify the saved response rather than assuming the file matches the request. |
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, with options for full-page capture, lazy-image loading, selectors, waits, viewport and device presets, and more. It removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients.

Does the screenshot API automatically make every page accessible?
No. A capture can show a challenge or access-denied page instead of the article. Validate the image and report blocked outcomes separately.
Best Value
Can a screenshot be treated as permission to republish a news article?
No. Successful capture and rights to retain, redistribute, or republish are separate questions; check the publisher-specific terms and applicable reuse permissions.
