For a modest list of Indian news article URLs, use a local Playwright script to open each link and save a screenshot with a matching status record. A local browser gives you control over viewport, full-page capture, and repeatable settings; it does not guarantee every publisher will load successfully. If you need pages rendered as they appear from India, use a service that documents India as a capture location and check its current routing and cost details.
Choose the right capture method
Use Playwright when you want local browser control and can manage the script and output files yourself. A hosted API can simplify setup or batch handling, but sends the URLs to a third party and may have usage limits or fees. For either approach, confirm that the pages are ordinarily accessible; do not try to bypass a login, paywall, CAPTCHA, or other access control.
- Above-the-fold record: take a viewport screenshot at a fixed window size when you need to record what appeared in the browser window.
- Whole article: use full-page capture when you need the page’s full scrollable area. Playwright defines it as “a screenshot of the full scrollable page, as if you had a very tall screen and the page could fit it entirely.” (Playwright Screenshots)
- Location-sensitive content: consider a service that documents India as a capture location if the page may vary by geography. Location selection does not guarantee access or identical content.
Record the viewport dimensions and whether full-page mode was used. Review screenshots for missing content, sticky elements, consent screens, popups, login walls, and unusually long pages.

1. Install Playwright
For a JavaScript/Node.js setup, create a project and install Playwright:

Save one absolute https:// article URL per line in urls.txt. Keep the input file unchanged so each result can be reconciled to its original row.

2. Save and run the capture script
Save this as capture.mjs. It launches one Chromium browser, processes URLs sequentially, assigns stable row-based filenames, and writes a CSV manifest. A failed navigation or screenshot is recorded and does not stop the remaining URLs.

Playwright’s screenshot API also supports output formats, JPEG/WebP quality, scale, clipping, and masking; use the same options across a batch when the images need to be compared. 3. Check the results before scaling up
Open a sample of successful images and inspect every failure. The script waits for DOM content, not necessarily for every ad, embedded widget, or delayed article element. Test representative pages and adjust the navigation wait strategy for the sites in your list before adding concurrency. Playwright’s CLI documentation also describes viewport, element, full-page, filename, format, and high-resolution capture options.

Its documentation says bulk requests use the same one-minute request bucket as regular requests and directs users to concurrency guidance before draining a large queue. It also documents an India option using proxy routing and notes that proxies are slower. This is a vendor-described location capability, not a test against any particular Indian publisher. Compare before committing a large batch

Check current cost, batch limits and concurrency, retention and storage, access-key security, retries and error reporting, privacy terms, and whether the service can render from the location you need. A hosted provider is a third-party processing dependency; avoid sending URLs or page data unless its terms suit your use.

Troubleshooting and reliability
Navigation times out
Some sites keep network activity open for ads, analytics, or live content. The example uses domcontentloaded with a 45-second timeout rather than waiting for every network request to finish. Test other wait conditions on representative pages; record failures instead of endlessly increasing the timeout.
The screenshot is blank or incomplete
Check the final URL and status in manifest.csv, then open the page in a normal browser. The publisher may have returned a consent screen, access restriction, or error page, or rendered the article after the chosen wait condition. Use ordinary, authorized access and record the result; do not bypass controls.
Images or lower-page content are missing
Lazy-loaded images may not appear until their area is scrolled into view. Review the output and the current Playwright screenshot guidance for handling the page before capture; do not assume a full-page image proves all embedded content loaded. Very long pages can also produce large images, so test storage needs and readability.

Files are too large or hard to compare
Use consistent viewport, full-page setting, scale, and format. CSS-scale output and compressed formats can reduce storage, while high-DPI or lossless PNG output can preserve detail at a larger file size. Pick settings based on legibility, then apply them consistently.
Some URLs fail while others work
Keep the batch sequential until you understand how the publishers and local machine behave. Preserve the failed row, requested URL, error, and timestamp in the manifest; retry selectively after checking whether the destination is temporarily unavailable or requires an authorized route. Add concurrency only after measuring its effects.

The applicable copyright, publisher terms, and permissions depend on the specific page and intended use; check the publisher’s terms and obtain permission where required.
