Use Selenium WebDriver’s screenshot API to save the current browser view as a PNG: open the exact court-service page, wait for the content you need, then call driver.save_screenshot("court-page.png"). Indian court websites are not one uniform site, so choose a page-specific wait condition and check the target site’s terms before automating access or republishing a capture.
Capture a court page as a PNG with Selenium
This Python example opens a page, waits for a target element to appear, saves the current browser view, and closes the browser even if capture fails. Replace the example URL and CSS selector with the exact court service and element you need.

save_screenshot captures the current browsing context/window as a PNG. It is not a general guarantee of a complete long-page capture across browsers. If you need the full page, verify the method with the browser and driver versions you use rather than assuming a viewport screenshot includes content below the fold.

To capture one identified element instead, wait for it and call element.screenshot("case-details.png"). Selenium documents element screenshots separately; a selector that uniquely identifies the desired region is important. See the element screenshot documentation.
Wait for the court content, not just the browser load
WebDriver’s default page-load strategy waits for the document’s complete state, but that does not mean a dynamic page has finished adding case details or results. Selenium’s options guide explains that single-page applications can continue loading after that state. Prefer a condition tied to the content being recorded, such as a visible order heading, result table, or case-detail panel. There is no reliable universal selector for all Indian court portals.

The example uses an explicit wait of up to 20 seconds. Adjust that limit to the target page’s behavior and wait for an element that distinguishes a completed result from a shell or loading screen. Avoid treating an arbitrary sleep as proof that the right content is present.

- Normal (default): waits for the document’s complete state, which may still be too early for content loaded afterward.
- Eager: waits for the DOM content-loaded event. Add an explicit wait for the content you need.
- None: does not block WebDriver on page loading. Use only with a sufficient explicit waiting strategy; otherwise capture timing can be flaky.
See Selenium’s browser options guide before changing a strategy. A faster return from navigation does not itself make a capture more reliable.

Identify the exact Indian court service
The eCourts portal links to distinct services, including High Court services, High Court NJDG, District Court services, District Court NJDG, e-Filing, e-Pay, and Virtual Courts. Start from the eCourts Portal if you need to identify the appropriate service, then automate the specific page rather than assuming every linked site behaves alike. Its accessibility statement says linked external websites are maintained by their respective departments; because that page reports a 2016 review/update, check the live target site for current behavior.
Check access, legal status, and reuse before capture
Automation and site terms
The central eCourts terms do not establish blanket permission for automated access to every linked court site or a universal Selenium rate limit. Review the current terms and access controls of the exact site. If permission or acceptable use is unclear, contact that site’s administrator rather than inferring authorization from the central portal. The eCourts terms also say linked outside websites are subject to their owners’ or sponsors’ privacy and security policies.

A screenshot is not an authenticated court record
The e-Committee, Supreme Court of India, states in its Terms and Conditions: “The documents and information displayed in this website are for reference purposes only and do not purport to a legal document.” The eCourts portal disclaimer likewise says online information is not meant for legal evidence and asks visitors to cross-check it with relevant authorities or records. A browser image records what appeared on a page; it does not authenticate an order or replace an official court record.

Republishing a capture
The eCourts copyright policy says website content should not be reproduced without prominently acknowledging its source. It excludes material identified as third-party copyright and says authorization for that material should be requested from the relevant courts. Before publishing a screenshot, check the exact target site’s policy, identify third-party material within the image, and obtain any permissions that apply. This central policy does not establish rights for every linked court website.

Troubleshoot common capture failures
- The screenshot is blank or shows a loading shell: the document may be ready while the page’s data is still loading. Wait for a visible, page-specific result or detail element and confirm it contains the expected content before saving.
- The wait times out: check that the URL reached the intended service and that the selector matches the live page. Court portals and linked services can have different structures; do not reuse a selector blindly.
- The screenshot is only part of a long page: the standard current-window screenshot should not be assumed to capture the entire document. Validate full-page behavior for your chosen browser/version or capture the relevant element or view.
- The image is missing or cannot be opened: verify the process can write to the destination path and that the filename ends in
.png. Check the boolean return fromsave_screenshot; keep the output path explicit when running jobs from a different working directory. - Automation is blocked or behavior differs from a normal visit: stop repeated attempts and review the target site’s current access rules. The central eCourts terms do not define a universal policy for linked sites.
