Build an n8n workflow that reads each row’s URL, captures the page through a screenshot node or API, and saves the returned file to Google Drive. For new entries, use a Google Sheets Trigger; for URLs already in the sheet, use a row-reading operation. Then map each row’s name or title to a useful filename and, if needed, write the result or status back to Sheets.
Choose a workflow shape
The basic flow is Google Sheets → screenshot capture → file storage. A published n8n workflow template demonstrates this pattern with Google Sheets Trigger → CustomJS PDF Toolkit → Google Drive Upload. It processes new rows and uses the row’s title or name as the screenshot filename. See n8n workflow templates.
Use a trigger when you want to capture URLs as new rows arrive. To process an existing list, retrieve rows from the sheet instead, then pass each row through the same capture and upload steps. Prepare the sheet and credentials
Use consistent headers
Create a header row with fields such as Url and Name. The template describes URL and title fields in its workflow steps, but its setup guide uses Url and Name. Choose your own names if you prefer, then map those exact fields throughout the workflow. This matters especially when using automatic mapping: n8n expects incoming field names to match the sheet’s columns.

Connect the required services
The template calls for a Google Sheet containing website URLs and titles, a Google Drive folder, a CustomJS API key, and n8n credentials for Google Sheets and Drive. Its CustomJS PDF Toolkit community node can only be installed on self-hosted n8n instances. If you use n8n Cloud, choose an HTTP Request/API route or another available screenshot integration instead of relying on that community node.
Build the workflow
- Read rows. Add a Google Sheets Trigger configured to watch new rows, or add a Google Sheets row retrieval operation to process existing rows. Select the spreadsheet and sheet, and confirm that the first row is treated as headings.
- Pass each URL to capture. Add the screenshot node or an HTTP Request node for your chosen service. Map the URL field from the incoming row, and preserve the Name or Title value for the filename. For an API route, configure the provider’s authentication and output options as required by its current documentation.
- Upload the image. Add Google Drive Upload, choose the destination folder, and map the screenshot output as the file data. Use the row’s Name or Title as the filename, with a suitable image extension matching the selected output format.
- Optionally record the result. Add a Google Sheets update or append/update operation to write a status, saved file link, or error details. Map fields deliberately; automatic mapping relies on matching incoming field names to sheet column names.
- Run a small validation batch. Test with a few rows first. Check that the URL is mapped correctly, the capture output is a file rather than text, the Drive node receives that file, and the resulting filenames and optional sheet updates correspond to the original rows.

For all providers, confirm current account requirements, authentication, node compatibility, pricing, quotas, and supported output formats before deploying. The cited integration pages do not establish comparative performance or rate limits.

Handle volume, retries, and cost carefully
For larger sheets, validate how your specific n8n workflow processes and passes rows through the capture and upload steps. The available documentation here does not establish a maximum batch size, provider throughput, rate limits, or service-level reliability. Avoid assuming that a successful small test proves the same behavior at your full list size.
- Check the provider’s current pricing and quota before scheduling recurring captures.
- Keep a row identifier or stable URL/name combination so you can locate a failed item and retry it without losing its association with the original sheet row.
- Record a capture status or resulting Drive link if you need to distinguish completed rows from pending ones.
- When a capture fails, inspect the execution data and provider response before retrying; repeated calls may have different billing rules depending on the provider.
Troubleshoot common problems
The workflow cannot find the URL or title field
Check the incoming item’s field names against the sheet headers and your node mappings. Differences such as URL versus Url or Title versus Name can break a mapping. Correct the header or update each affected mapping.

The CustomJS node is unavailable
The referenced community-node template requires self-hosted n8n. If your instance is hosted by n8n, use an HTTP Request integration or a capture service available in your deployment.
Google Drive receives no usable image
Verify that the screenshot operation returned file/binary data and that the Drive Upload node is configured to use that data field. A URL or text response is not the image file itself.
The wrong filename is uploaded
Inspect the row’s Name or Title value and the Drive node’s filename mapping. Ensure the extension matches the output format selected from the screenshot service.

Sheet status or file links do not map correctly
For automatic mapping, make incoming field names match the target sheet columns. Otherwise, map each destination column explicitly in the update or append/update operation.
A provider’s quota or cost is unclear
The cited integration pages do not give a complete current comparison of price, quotas, and limits. Verify those details in the selected provider’s current documentation and account before running a recurring or high-volume workflow.

Can this workflow capture rows that are already in the sheet?
Yes. Use a Google Sheets row retrieval operation instead of a trigger that watches only new rows, then connect the retrieved items to the same capture and upload steps.
Does the CustomJS template work on n8n Cloud?
The cited template says its community node can only be installed on self-hosted n8n. For a hosted instance, use an HTTP Request/API route or another supported integration.
