Use ScreenshotOne’s POST https://api.screenshotone.com/bulk endpoint: send shared capture options alongside a requests array containing one capture object per URL. The endpoint returns screenshot URLs; by default, captures are lazy and run when those URLs are downloaded. Set execute to true when you need ScreenshotOne to execute the captures before returning the response. For a long list, queue the work, pace it against your account’s live usage bucket, and retry failures.
Prepare an access key and choose how results should be delivered
Create or copy your key
- Sign up or sign in to ScreenshotOne, then open the access page and create or copy an access key. Keys are scoped to an organization. See ScreenshotOne API keys.
- Use HTTPS for every request. ScreenshotOne warns that HTTP does not encrypt requests and can expose access keys, authorization headers, cookies, and other sensitive data in transit. See Getting Started.
- For production code, keep the key in a secret store or environment configuration rather than committing it to source control. The API accepts a key in a query string, POST JSON body, or
X-Access-Keyheader; avoid putting it in a URL that may be logged or shared.
Pick lazy execution or execution before response
The normal bulk response contains screenshot URLs, but those URLs are lazy by default: the render is performed when a returned URL is downloaded. If the next step in your job needs captures to be executed before the bulk call returns, include execute: true in the request and allow enough time for all jobs to finish. See Bulk Screenshots.
Decide whether to use object storage
If returned screenshot URLs suit your workflow, no storage configuration is needed. For persistent output placement, the bulk guide shows store: true, response_type: "empty", and an S3-compatible destination, with a distinct storage_path for each output. Storage is off by default, and storage_path is required when storing. The storage endpoint may be left empty for Amazon S3 or set for a compatible service such as Cloudflare R2. Submit a batch with shared and per-URL options
Send a JSON body to the bulk endpoint with an options object for common settings and a requests array for individual captures. Shared options apply across the batch; a request item can override a shared default or specify a URL-specific setting. ScreenshotOne’s bulk examples also show HTML or Markdown input, in addition to URL captures.

The example below uses a placeholder key and two URLs. It sends JSON in the POST body, keeps the key out of the URL, and leaves execution lazy so you can download the returned screenshot URLs as needed.

}'In this example, PNG is the shared format and the Stripe item overrides it to JPEG. Use the options reference for the supported capture settings. The bulk endpoint’s documented maximum POST body size is 100 MiB, according to ScreenshotOne’s Getting Started documentation accessed in 2026; for larger HTML or Markdown inputs, host the content and pass its URL instead of embedding it in the request.

Understand the response
The bulk response provides screenshot URLs by default. With lazy execution, download each returned URL to trigger its capture and retrieve the image. With execute: true, ScreenshotOne executes each request before returning, so budget for completion time and handle any failures in your application. The official bulk documentation does not establish one universal completion time for every batch; actual render time depends on the pages and request workload.
Process large URL lists without overrunning the account limit
For lists larger than a single convenient batch, divide the work into manageable batches and submit them through a queue. ScreenshotOne’s multiple-URL guide recommends retrying failed requests and checking the usage endpoint’s concurrency.remaining and concurrency.reset values before starting more work. These values describe the number of screenshot requests that can be started in the current one-minute bucket, not how many renderers are actively working. For example, when concurrency.remaining is five, the guide says five starts remain before waiting for the reset. Use a queue appropriate to the job
- One worker or a small script: an in-memory queue can hold URL work, retry failures, and pause when the live usage bucket is exhausted. It is simple, but queued work is lost if the process stops.
- Restart-safe or multi-worker processing: use a durable queue. ScreenshotOne’s guide suggests Redis/BullMQ or SQS when jobs must survive restarts or run across multiple workers.
- Retry behavior: retry failed captures rather than treating a single failure as a successful batch. Use a bounded retry policy with backoff so transient failures do not cause an immediate flood of new starts.
- Proxies: the guide notes that proxies may be useful when needed; they are not presented as a universal requirement.
Keep a record of each input URL and its result so an interrupted or partially failed batch can resume without needlessly repeating completed work. Test the queue and retry policy against your own pages, especially if page content changes between attempts.
Optimize repeated captures and persist outputs when needed
Same page, different capture settings
ScreenshotOne documents an optimization mode for taking screenshots of the same URL with different parameters, such as viewport size. Do not assume it will eliminate reloads: the documentation says optimization is not guaranteed, sites may reload anyway, and some option changes require a reload. Test it with the actual pages and option combinations in your workload before relying on it.

Durable object storage
For storage-backed results, configure storage as shown in the bulk documentation, enable store, use response_type: "empty", and set a distinct storage_path for each output. Without that path, the documented storage configuration is incomplete. Choose this route when you need files placed in your own S3-compatible destination rather than consuming ScreenshotOne’s ordinary returned screenshot URLs.

Troubleshoot common batch problems
- The response contains URLs, but no image has been rendered yet: that is the default lazy behavior. Download the returned screenshot URL to trigger capture, or set
execute: trueif the bulk call must execute requests before responding. - The batch takes longer than the caller allows: eager execution waits for the requested captures to finish. Allow sufficient time, or use lazy execution and retrieve results separately.
- New work cannot start: inspect
concurrency.remainingandconcurrency.resetfrom the usage endpoint and wait for the reset when the current one-minute start bucket is exhausted. Do not confuse this bucket with active renderer count. - A URL fails while others succeed: record the failed item, retry it according to your backoff policy, and keep successful results. The multi-URL guide recommends retries; it does not promise that every URL in a batch will succeed.
- POST request is rejected or too large: confirm the JSON is valid and keep the body within the documented 100 MiB maximum. For larger HTML or Markdown, host the content and pass its URL.
- Credentials or request data may be exposed: use HTTPS rather than HTTP, and avoid sharing logged URLs containing query-string keys. Prefer a protected secret source and an accepted header or POST-body authentication method.
- Stored output is missing or the storage request is incomplete: verify that storage is enabled,
storage_pathis present for each output, and the endpoint and destination settings match the S3-compatible service configuration. - Optimization does not reduce the work: the optimization is not guaranteed to avoid reloads. Test the relevant URL and parameter changes; some settings require a page reload.
