To capture a product’s sale price alongside its crossed-out original price, select the exact product option first, then frame the product identity, selected option, and both prices in one readable screenshot. Use your computer or phone’s built-in screenshot tool, check the saved image for clipped details, and keep an unedited original. The image records what the page showed at that moment; it does not prove the reference price was routinely available or that the discount is a good deal.
What to include in the screenshot
Before capturing, make sure the page shows these details together:
- The product name or an identifying image.
- The selected size, color, model, or other variant.
- The current sale price and its currency.
- The crossed-out original or reference price, if displayed.
- Enough page or marketplace context to identify where the listing appeared, when that context matters.
Select the exact variant before capturing: a price may change when a different option is chosen. Wait for the page and price area to finish loading, then adjust the browser zoom or scroll position so the relevant details fit in the frame.

Windows
- Open the product page, choose the variant you want to document, and wait for both prices to appear.
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool overlay.
- Choose a capture mode and select the area containing the product identity, chosen variant, and both prices. Microsoft says Snipping Tool supports freeform, rectangular, window, and full-screen captures.
- Open the capture in Snipping Tool to review it, then save the image. You can annotate or crop a copy if needed; keep the original capture unchanged.

Mac
- Open the product page and select the exact option.
- Press Shift-Command-5 to open Screenshot, then choose full screen, window, or selected portion. Use the selection that keeps the product and both prices readable.
- Alternatively, press Shift-Command-4 to select an area directly, or Shift-Command-3 to capture the full screen.
- Review the saved image before sharing. If you need a delayed capture, the Screenshot panel includes a timer.
Some apps may prevent window screenshots. Apple’s current steps are in Take screenshots or screen recordings on Mac.
iPhone
- Open the product page, select the intended variant, and position the details on screen.
- On a Face ID model, press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On a Touch ID model, use the side button and Home button, or the top button and Home button, depending on the device.
- Open the captured image and check that the identifying product details and both prices are visible. Crop or annotate a copy if useful, but retain the original.
Button combinations vary by model; consult Apple’s iPhone screenshot instructions if your controls differ.

Choose a crop or a wider capture
A tight crop makes the prices larger and easier to read, but can remove context. A full-screen or wider capture can preserve the marketplace, product, selected option, and surrounding page, though the prices may appear smaller. Use the smallest frame that still makes both prices legible and retains the context your audience needs. If one image cannot do both well, keep a wider original and make a clearly labeled close-up copy.
Review and preserve the evidence
- Open the saved file at full size and confirm the currency, sale price, original/reference price, product identity, and selected option are all readable.
- Check that no menu, popup, loading state, or cursor obscures the details.
- Keep the original capture before cropping, annotating, or otherwise editing. Identify edited copies as such if you share them.
- Remember that a screenshot captures the page state visible to the person taking it; it does not independently establish a price’s history or validity.
What a displayed original price does—and does not—show
A crossed-out price is a page display, not proof by itself that the item was routinely sold at that amount. Amazon’s Seller Central announcement says U.S. List Price validation criteria effective April 23, 2026 require that the product was recently offered at that price by another retailer or purchased on Amazon as the Featured Offer at that price. Amazon says reference prices are intended to help customers understand value and that a display may be removed when considered misleading. These stated criteria concern Amazon’s U.S. List Price; do not assume they apply identically to other marketplaces or price labels. See Amazon Seller Central’s reference-pricing announcement.

For Amazon listings, price history can provide additional context where available. Amazon says its feature offers 30-, 90-, and 365-day views; its article lists the U.S., U.K., Canada, and India, and notes that 365-day insights were rolling out at the time of publication/update. Availability, interface, and the definitions behind a displayed price can vary by marketplace and date, so check the relevant view rather than treating a screenshot as a historical record. Amazon reported that more than 50 million customers had checked price history since its 2024 launch; that is an Amazon-published figure, not an independent measurement. Can a screenshot prove that the crossed-out price was the product’s normal price?
No. It records the displayed page at capture time. Price-history information, where available, can add context but is separate evidence.
