To capture reviews that appear only after scrolling or clicking “Load more,” open Chrome DevTools before reloading the product page, record the Network panel, then trigger the review widget and inspect the new request and its response. The exact request and response format depend on the retailer and review widget, so observe the page rather than guessing at an endpoint.
What you can capture—and what to look for
Review widgets may reveal more entries as you scroll, click a load-more control, or move between pages. Google Search Central identifies product-page reviews as content that can be presented this way. The Network panel lets you see whether an interaction caused a request, and whether its response contains review text or data.
Keep two outcomes distinct: capturing data from a live page in your browser, and making that content crawlable to a search engine. A person can interact with the widget; Google generally discovers URLs through links and does not generally click buttons or trigger JavaScript functions that require user action. That difference can explain why reviews visible after a click are not in the initial page markup. Google’s pagination and incremental-loading guidance explains the distinction.
Capture the requests with Chrome DevTools
- Open DevTools before reloading. Open the product page in Chrome, open DevTools, and select the Network panel. Reload while the panel is open so you can observe initial page requests as well as later activity. If DevTools was opened only after the page loaded, earlier requests may be missing. Chrome’s network inspection tutorial shows how to inspect activity.
- Prepare the log. Clear existing requests if the list contains unrelated activity. Turn on Preserve log if navigation or reloads might clear entries you need. If you need to observe the first-visit request sequence, disable the browser cache in the Network panel. These are optional controls; choose them based on what you are trying to capture. - Find the reviews and note the starting state. Scroll to the review section. Note the reviews currently visible and how the widget offers more: scrolling, a button, or pagination.
- Trigger one batch. Scroll the review list, click “Load more,” or use its next-page control. Avoid triggering several actions at once; one action at a time makes it easier to identify the request it caused.
- Compare the Network log. Look for new XHR or fetch requests around the time of the interaction. Inspect likely requests and their initiator, headers, preview or response, and timing. Chrome’s tutorial demonstrates tracing a request caused by a page interaction.
- Verify the result. Check whether the response contains readable review text or structured review data, and confirm the corresponding reviews appeared in the page. If another batch is available, trigger it separately and see whether request parameters or the response change.
Do not infer a universal review endpoint, parameter name, or response structure. A widget might append a batch to the current list, replace it, update a URL, or request data without changing the visible URL. Those behaviors are specific to the page you inspect.

Compare the review controls on the page
If a page offers multiple ways to move through reviews, use these questions to understand what each control does. The answers are observations about that particular page, not rules that apply to every ecommerce site.

When you need to inspect requests programmatically
Chrome extensions can use chrome.devtools.network.getHAR() and request-finished events to inspect recorded network activity. However, HAR data does not include request content by default. If you need response bodies, use the request content method documented by Chrome. The extension API also cautions that opening DevTools after the page has loaded can leave earlier requests out of the record; reload with DevTools open. If you own the ecommerce site: make reviews accessible to crawlers
Browser capture and search crawlability are separate concerns. For your own site, Google recommends making relevant lazy-loaded content load when it enters the viewport. For infinite scroll, its guidance recommends persistent unique URLs for content chunks, stable content for a given URL, sequential links, and updating the visible URL when a new chunk becomes primary. Troubleshooting
- No relevant request appears: Confirm Network recording is active, reload with DevTools open, and try the interaction again. The widget may not have loaded, or the control may not have triggered another request.
- The request list is noisy: Clear the log, then perform just one review action. Filter for XHR or fetch requests, but inspect other likely requests if the widget uses a different mechanism.
- The response does not show readable reviews: Check the preview and response, and verify the corresponding visible reviews changed. The request may carry structured data or another representation; do not assume a response format.
- Later batches look identical or do not load: Repeat one control action at a time and compare requests, parameters, and visible results. The page may require a different interaction, or the widget may have reached its available reviews.
- Earlier requests are missing from a HAR capture: Open DevTools before reloading. If response bodies are needed, account for Chrome’s warning that HAR does not provide request content by default.
