To capture an Instagram page, send its URL to a screenshot API and request either the visible viewport or a full-page image. Choose what part of the Instagram page to capture
Before choosing an API option, decide what the image needs to show. A viewport capture records the currently visible browser area; a full-page capture attempts to include content farther down the page; an element capture targets one part of the rendered page. The right choice depends on the page and your use case, not just the image format.
- Viewport: Use it when you need a screenshot of the initial page view or a particular browser state.
- Full page: Use it for a longer page, while checking the output for omitted or repeated sections.
- Element: Use a CSS selector when the service supports it and you need a specific rendered region.
A hosted API’s full-page algorithm may scroll, wait for lazy-loaded content, or stitch sections together. Those approaches differ by provider. Capture an Instagram URL with a hosted screenshot API
A hosted screenshot API accepts a page URL and returns an image. Request details, authentication, and supported capture options depend on the service. ScreenshotOne documents GET and POST requests, a URL input, and the full_page=true option. Urlbox documents a POST endpoint for capturing a public webpage. Neither provider’s general documentation establishes Instagram-specific compatibility, so verify the result on a page you are allowed to view.

- Choose the target URL. Use the specific public page, post, or other page you intend to capture.
- Pick viewport or full-page output. Enable the provider’s full-page option only when you need content below the initial view.
- Set a reasonable wait. Give the page time to render. ScreenshotOne’s guide suggests trying an additional 5–10 seconds for incomplete output; that is a vendor recommendation, not a guarantee.
- Make the request using the provider’s documented method. Check the response and save the returned image.
- Inspect the image. Look for a login screen, missing images, overlays, truncation, or a page state different from what you expected.
For example, ScreenshotOne documents full-page capture through a request parameter named full_page. Its API key and request syntax are provider-specific; consult its current documentation rather than copying an example intended for a different service. Do not assume an API’s ability to render ordinary public URLs means it can reach restricted Instagram content.
Capture the page yourself with Playwright
Playwright gives you control over browser launch, navigation, and screenshot settings, but you also manage the browser runtime. Its documented basic flow is to launch a browser, create a context and page, navigate to a URL, capture the page, and close the browser. The example below uses the Playwright JavaScript library in a Node.js project. Install the package and browser binaries as described in the current Playwright Page documentation and Playwright setup documentation before running it.

If the page is long, fullPage: true requests a full-page screenshot, but lazy-loaded content, overlays, and browser-visible access restrictions can still affect the result. Protect browser state and credentials
If your own workflow uses a browser session, treat cookies and any credentials as secrets. Do not place them in source control or expose them in logs or public artifacts. This is distinct from an API key: the session grants access to the browser’s state, so handle it carefully and only use access you are entitled to use.

There is no documented comparative success rate for Instagram captures in these sources. Choose based on your operational needs and validate the exact target page and account context rather than treating either approach as a guaranteed workaround.
Screenshot API versus Instagram’s own API
A screenshot API renders a webpage into an image. Instagram’s API is a separate product intended for supported account and content-management capabilities, not as a general webpage-to-image endpoint. The cited Meta API material describes a Facebook Login flow that requires a Facebook Page linked to a professional account and does not provide access to consumer accounts. Consult Meta’s Instagram API documentation for current requirements and supported operations.

A third-party-hosted copy of Meta’s feature reference describes Meta oEmbed Read as returning embed HTML and basic metadata for public Instagram pages, posts, and videos. An embed is not a screenshot image, and because the cited copy is hosted outside Meta, verify current details on Meta’s developer site before implementing it: the feature reference copy.
Access, troubleshooting, and reliability
A screenshot tool captures the browser-visible result; it does not establish that the underlying account or content is public or accessible to the tool.
