In Power Automate for desktop (PAD), use the browser automation action Take screenshot of web page. It can capture the entire page or a specific element and save the result as an image file. Sign in to the GST Portal yourself and complete any CAPTCHA or OTP prompts in the normal browser session; do not build a flow that tries to bypass those checks. If you need an official certificate or statement, use the portal’s own download rather than treating a screenshot as the source document.
What you need before building the flow
- Power Automate for desktop installed and a supported browser: Microsoft lists Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. Microsoft’s built-in Automation browser is described as ready to work out of the box; an external browser may require its Power Automate extension or a compatible WebDriver. - Access to the GST Portal through an authorized account. The flow should leave credentials, CAPTCHA entry, OTPs, and other access checks to the account holder or authorized staff member.
- A destination folder where PAD can save the image, with a filename and format selected in advance.
PAD cannot attach to a browser opened under a different Windows system user. Some physical-interaction options also require the browser to remain visible and the target tab focused, so use the same Windows account for the flow and browser session.

Launch or attach to a browser
Create a desktop flow. Add Launch new Microsoft Edge to start a browser, or use the appropriate browser action to attach to an existing instance. If you use an external browser, confirm its extension or compatible WebDriver is configured before continuing.

Open the portal and let the authorized user sign in
Navigate to the GST Portal login page in the browser. The GSTN login guidance describes CAPTCHA entry and OTP prompts in applicable situations. Let the authorized user complete these steps in the normal portal interface; do not store or automate credentials or attempt to evade authentication checks. See GSTN’s login and password guidance.

Navigate to the page you need to capture
Use the portal normally and confirm the correct page is displayed before taking the screenshot. For example, GSTN lists the certificate route as Services > User Services > View/Download Certificates. The portal’s labels and available content may depend on your account and the certificate being sought.

Add the webpage screenshot action
In the flow designer, add the browser automation action Take screenshot of web page. Choose Entire web page for a full-page capture or Specific element to capture a selected element. Microsoft documents saving the result to a file or clipboard. For a reusable record, choose a file destination.

Set the output path and format
For the output destination, choose File and provide a full path and filename, such as
C:GST-recordsportal-page.png. Select an image format supported by the action. Microsoft lists BMP, EMF, EXIF, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF, and WMF; PNG is a practical general-purpose choice, not a GST Portal requirement.Special offer. Run and inspect the saved image
Run the flow with the intended page visible, then open the saved image. Check that it shows the correct page and that content is not blank or clipped. Before sharing or filing it, check for GSTINs, taxpayer names, addresses, invoice details, authentication codes, and other confidential information; redact sensitive content when appropriate.

Choose a screenshot or an official portal download
A screenshot records how content appeared on screen; it is not the same as the portal’s downloadable source file. Choose the retention method that matches what you need:

Troubleshooting
- PAD cannot attach to the browser: Make sure the browser and PAD are running under the same Windows system user. If using an external browser, check that its extension or compatible WebDriver is installed and configured.
- The flow cannot interact with the page: Keep the browser visible and the target tab focused when using actions that depend on physical interaction. Confirm that the authorized user has completed any login, CAPTCHA, or OTP prompt.
- A selected element is not captured: Check that the element is present on the current page and that the selector or element selection still identifies it. If you need the whole page, switch to Entire web page.
- The image is missing or not where expected: Verify that the action is set to save to File, that the full output path and filename are valid, and that the destination folder is writable. Run the flow again after correcting the path.
- The capture is blank or clipped: Confirm the correct page has loaded and is displayed before capture. Review the image and adjust the capture choice between the entire page and a specific element as needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Power Automate Desktop capture only part of a GST Portal page?
Yes. In “Take screenshot of web page,” choose “Specific element” instead of “Entire web page.”

Can I use a screenshot as my GST certificate or GSTR-2B download?
No. A screenshot is an image of a page. Use the GST Portal’s PDF certificate download or Excel/JSON GSTR-2B download when you need the portal document or data.
Can the flow sign in to the GST Portal without user involvement?
