To document what a local search showed in India, capture the actual Google Search or Google Maps results and record the exact query, locality, date and time, device, surface, and relevant account or location context. Treat the image as one observation—not a universal ranking. For profile interactions such as calls or website clicks, use Google Business Profile Performance or its downloadable report instead; those metrics do not establish a public search position.

Choose what you need to prove

First distinguish a public result from a Business Profile metric. A screenshot of Search or Maps records what appeared on that surface under particular conditions. Performance records discovery and interactions associated with a verified profile over a selected period. They answer different questions and should not be presented as interchangeable evidence.

  • To show visibility: capture the relevant Google Search or Maps result with the query and enough surrounding context to interpret it.
  • To show profile activity: use Performance and preserve the metric labels and reporting period, or download the official report.

Capture a local Search or Maps result

1. Define the query and intended location

Write down the exact phrase and the Indian city, neighbourhood, or service area being assessed. Keep the wording and geographic scope consistent: a broad city query and a neighbourhood query are not equivalent observations.

2. Choose the surface

Use Google Search if the evidence concerns a Search results page, and Google Maps if it concerns a Maps search. Label the surface; a Maps result and a Search result are not interchangeable.

3. Record the conditions

Before capturing, note the query, locality, date and time with time zone, device type, and whether the search was signed in. If Google displays the location it used, record that too. If you deliberately set a location in a test setup, describe the method accurately. Incognito mode does not remove location effects or guarantee identical results.

Google explains that results may vary with personalization, language, location, device, and current searches. It estimates a general area for searches and may use a more precise location when permission is granted; the location used may appear in the Search footer. See Personalization & Google Search results and Understand & manage your location when you search on Google.

4. Capture enough context to interpret the image

Use your computer or phone’s built-in screenshot control. Keep the query and relevant business, result, or map context visible; do not crop away information needed to interpret the observation. A screenshot records what appeared at that moment, not a stable position seen by every searcher.

5. Preserve and label the original

Keep an unedited original. Use a filename or accompanying note that identifies the query, locality, date, surface, and device. If you crop or annotate a copy for publication, retain the original and disclose edits that materially affect interpretation.

6. Repeat comparisons consistently

For a before-and-after comparison, repeat the same query, locality, surface, device, and approximate capture conditions, then date both images. These controls make a comparison easier to understand, but they cannot make Google show identical results. Disclose any differences in signed-in or location context rather than describing the images as a controlled universal rank measurement.

Understand why local results differ

Google Search says: “To give you the most useful information, Search algorithms look at many factors and signals, including the words of your query, relevance and usability of pages, expertise of sources and your location and settings.” Google also says its systems recognize that many queries have local intent. This explains why the query and context matter; it does not establish the weight of any one factor for a particular business. See How Google determines ranking results.

For client reporting, describe a capture as, for example, “Google Maps observation for [query] in [locality], on [date and time, time zone], using [device and account/location context].” Avoid calling it the rank everyone in the city sees.

Use Business Profile Performance for interaction metrics

Performance is available for verified Business Profiles and requires signing in to the associated Google Account. The interface and available measures can change, so use the current labels shown in your account.

Open Performance in Search

  1. Sign in to the Google Account associated with the verified profile.
  2. Find or open the Business Profile in Google Search.
  3. Select Performance, choose a reporting period, and apply it.
  4. Record the profile, date range, and metric labels alongside any screenshot or exported data.

Open Performance in the Maps app

  1. Open Google Maps while signed in to the associated account.
  2. Select Business, then Performance and See more.
  3. Select the period and apply it; preserve the displayed labels and range.

Download a report on a computer

  1. Open Business Profile Manager and select the relevant profiles.
  2. Choose Actions > Insights.
  3. Choose a timeframe and download the report.

Google’s Business Profile performance and insights help describes measures that may include searches, views, calls, website clicks, directions, messages, and bookings; only applicable measures appear. These are profile metrics, not a public local-pack position. In particular, “calls” means clicks on the call button, not confirmed completed calls. Views follow Google’s unique-visitor counting rules and may be lower than other view counts; direction-request counting accounts for multiple taps, canceled requests, and spam. Website-click reporting can also differ by surface or report context. Keep Google’s metric name and context rather than translating a count into customers or completed visits. Google documents changes to direction-request counting at Changes to your performance data.

Keep exports and Analytics comparisons interpretable

Google supports spreadsheet downloads for selected profiles and timeframes. An Analytics connection can display aggregated Business Profile metrics: in the documented report, multiple linked profiles are summed and cannot be segmented by individual profile, and the GBP metrics are available there for the last six months. Check the report’s actual scope before using it to compare locations. Details are in Google’s Connect Google Business Profile (GBP) to Google Analytics guide.

  • For an exported report, retain the selected profile or profiles, timeframe, and metric labels.
  • For repeated comparisons, use the same profile, metric, and date range where possible; clearly label any change in scope.
  • Do not describe an aggregated Analytics figure as an individual-location result when the documented report does not provide that segmentation.

Use ScreenshotNeo when you need a repeatable capture request

For a screenshot of a public Google page, ScreenshotNeo can make the capture request without local browser setup. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. A screenshot still represents one observed page; it does not turn a localized result into a universal ranking. Google Search and Maps may also present consent, sign-in, or other context that affects what the page shows, so preserve the query and observation details with the image.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Or skip the browser setup

Use the API with the target Search or Maps URL you intend to document. The example saves the returned image as WebP; consult the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.google.com/search?q=plumber+in+Pune -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a screenshot prove a business’s Google rank across an entire Indian city?

No. It documents one Search or Maps observation under the query, location, device, time, and account conditions recorded with it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use Business Profile Performance to show my local-pack position?

No. Performance reports profile discovery and interactions for a selected period; it is not a public-result ranking measurement.

Can I use an Analytics report to compare several linked profiles separately?

The documented connected Business Profile report aggregates linked profiles and does not support segmenting those GBP metrics by individual profile.
