To capture a list of pages with lazy-loaded images, visit each URL in a browser, scroll through the document in viewport-sized steps so scroll-triggered content can load, then take a full-page screenshot. A full-page option captures the page’s scrollable document; it does not by itself guarantee that images or sections that load only after scrolling have been requested.
Why full-page capture can still miss images
Lazy-loaded content may not be requested until it approaches the visible viewport. A screenshot tool can capture the full scrollable page without first triggering those requests, leaving blank areas or placeholders in the image. Playwright provides full-page screenshots, but scrolling and waiting for content are separate steps. Playwright’s screenshot guide describes full-page capture, and its Page API documents navigation and screenshot options.
The reliable general workflow is to scroll through the page, allow newly revealed content to load and render, and then capture. The precise wait and stopping conditions depend on the site.
Prepare a repeatable batch
- Make a URL list. Store one page URL per line in a text file so the same input can be rerun.
- Fix capture settings. Use a consistent viewport, browser, image format, and output directory. The viewport affects responsive layouts and how much content each scroll step reveals.
- Choose stable filenames. Derive a safe filename from each URL or use a numbered sequence, and keep a log that maps each file to its URL and result.
- Set limits. Decide how long to wait and, for infinite-scroll pages, how far to scroll or when to stop. Pages that keep adding content need an explicit stopping rule.
Capture the pages with Playwright
The following Node.js example reads URLs from urls.txt, visits each page, scrolls downward by roughly one viewport at a time, then saves a full-page PNG. It records failures per URL so one inaccessible or timed-out page does not end the whole batch. Install Playwright with npm install playwright; install its browser if needed with npx playwright install chromium.

It pauses after each scroll and stops after reaching the current page height with repeated unchanged-height checks, subject to a maximum of 60 steps. If a site loads content slowly, uses an unusual scroll container, or grows continuously, adjust the wait and stopping rule. Playwright supports saving screenshots to a file or buffer and its full-page option captures the scrollable document; see the screenshot guide and Page API.
Wait for meaningful readiness
When the page has a known image, section, or loading indicator, wait for that page-specific condition after scrolling rather than relying only on a fixed pause. A delay is simple but may be too short on a slow page and unnecessarily long on a fast one. Playwright discourages treating networkidle as a universal test-readiness signal; activity can stop before the visual content you care about is ready, or continue for reasons unrelated to that content. Use a concrete condition where possible, and still inspect representative results.

Adapt the stopping condition
Ordinary pages can stop after the script reaches the current document height and that height stays unchanged for repeated checks. For infinite-scroll pages, decide on a maximum depth, expected item count, or a period with no further page growth. Without a limit, a page may keep extending and make the batch slow or unbounded.

Review results and diagnose missing content
Check sample outputs and any pages that appear unusually short. Look for blank image regions, loading placeholders, clipped sections, and layout that shifted while the capture was being made. Keep failures associated with their source URLs so you can rerun or investigate them individually.

- Images are blank or placeholders remain: scroll farther or wait longer after the relevant section appears; if possible, wait for a particular image or content element.
- The screenshot is shorter than expected: check whether the page is still growing, whether an infinite-scroll stopping limit was reached, or whether the content lives in a nested scrolling region rather than the main document.
- The page looks different between runs: keep the viewport and browser settings consistent, and account for animations, fixed headers, consent notices, authentication, or other site-specific behavior.
- A URL times out or shows a login wall or anti-automation challenge: log it as a failure rather than treating the image as a successful capture. Access and automation behavior can differ by site.
A single tall image is convenient for a whole-page review, but viewport-sized captures can be easier to inspect when a page is extremely long or when layout details matter at a particular scroll position.

Can I use this method for pages behind a login?
Only if your browser session has the required access and the site permits the automation. The batch example does not configure authentication, so protected pages may instead produce a login screen or fail.

Should I always save one tall image?
No. A full-page image suits whole-document review, while viewport-sized captures can be easier to inspect for very long pages or specific layout details.
