Use Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() to capture the page after it reaches the passenger-entry stage, or ElementHandle.screenshot() to capture only a selected element. For examples you plan to share, enter fictional passenger details on a local mock or an authorized test page; redact identifying information from any real capture.
Where passenger entry sits in the IRCTC booking flow
IRCTC’s Book E-Ticket guide describes choosing a train, entering passenger names, ages, sex and berth preferences, then reviewing availability and fare and selecting a payment option. After successful payment and booking, the guide says confirmation details and a print reservation slip option are shown.
This describes the broad sequence, not a guaranteed current layout or a fixed set of fields on every page. Puppeteer’s screenshot methods capture browser content; they are not an IRCTC-specific integration. The cited documentation does not establish whether automating a live IRCTC booking is permitted or reliable, so the example below assumes you already have an authorized page in the intended state. It does not log in, enter real passenger data, submit a booking, or bypass a challenge.

Capture the page
Use Page.screenshot() when you need the visible page as a whole. Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot API returns image data; with a path option, it writes the image to that file. This example uses a placeholder for an authorized test page already displaying the desired state:

Capture one element
If the purpose is to illustrate the passenger form, capture only that element to avoid including unrelated page content. Find its handle with a selector appropriate to your test page, then call screenshot() on the handle:

Puppeteer’s screenshots guide documents element screenshots and notes that Puppeteer attempts to scroll a hidden element into view before capturing it. A selected-element capture can reduce incidental content, but it does not automatically remove sensitive values inside that element.

IRCTC’s privacy policy discusses registration information such as name, age or date of birth, nationality, email, address and telephone number, as well as information about other travellers for whom a registered user books. The e-ticket FAQ says passengers are not required to enter photo identity-card details while booking. That does not mean a screenshot is anonymous: names and other entered or account-associated information can still be visible.

- For tutorials and mockups: use fictional names and other synthetic values on a local mock or expressly authorized test environment.
- For a real capture: crop or redact identifying fields before publication, and keep the unredacted original appropriately restricted.
- Before sharing: inspect the entire output, including the edges of the image, for passenger details or account information. Cropping to a form is not a substitute for checking its contents.
Troubleshooting a Puppeteer screenshot
- The output file is missing: confirm the process has permission to write to the requested path and that the screenshot call completed without an exception.
- The target element is not found: check that the authorized test page has loaded the expected state and that the selector matches its markup. The sample selector is only an example.
- The element screenshot contains unexpected content: inspect the element’s bounds and its contents; element capture includes what is inside the selected element, including any sensitive values.
- The capture differs from the page you expected: verify that navigation reached the intended test page and state before calling the screenshot method. The cited IRCTC guide does not promise a fixed page layout.
- You are considering live-site automation: the cited official booking guide and Puppeteer documentation do not determine whether live automation is permitted, succeeds consistently, or interacts with site protections. Do not treat these examples as evidence of authorization or reliability.
