Make a ScreenshotOne request through a proxy
First obtain an HTTP proxy endpoint from a proxy provider. ScreenshotOne’s guide names Decodo, Bright Data, and Geonode as examples, not endorsements. Its proxy option accepts standard username-and-password URL syntax. Substitute your own endpoint, target URL, and API key in this request:

Use HTTPS to call ScreenshotOne’s API, while setting the proxy value to the HTTP proxy URL. Encode query-parameter values when building the request yourself, especially proxy credentials that contain reserved URL characters. Setup steps
- Choose a provider and endpoint. ScreenshotOne’s guide says it does not include rotating residential proxies; you supply an external proxy. The guide recommends starting with a data-center proxy because it costs less than a residential proxy, then considering residential or mobile routing if needed. It does not publish exact prices or comparative success rates. Read ScreenshotOne’s proxy guide.
- Copy the HTTP proxy URL. Use the endpoint and credentials supplied by your provider. The documented custom
proxyoption supports HTTP proxies only. - Set the request options. Include
proxy, the page’surl, and your API key. ScreenshotOne documents GET requests and POST requests with JSON options; use the format that fits your integration. - Check the response. If capture fails, identify whether the cause is plausibly related to the proxy before retrying. A proxy does not fix every screenshot or API error.
Keep proxy credentials and requests manageable
Credentials embedded in a GET URL can appear in application, server, or proxy logs. Avoid exposing them in client-visible code or routine logs. ScreenshotOne’s getting-started documentation describes an access-key header option; consult it when choosing how to transmit the key. Treat proxy credentials with the same care.
Routing adds latency. ScreenshotOne advises against using a proxy when it is unnecessary, and cautions that many parallel requests through one proxy can slow requests and increase timeouts or other errors. If your provider supports it, distribute traffic across different proxies or ports rather than overloading a single endpoint.

Choose the right location and route
A custom proxy takes precedence over ip_country_code. Set the proxy’s location deliberately rather than expecting the country-code option to override it. ScreenshotOne says random locations are unlikely to be stable for most providers. If regional content depends on more than the apparent IP country, its options documentation advises considering language and time-zone settings as well.
For assets that do not need the proxy’s IP address or location, use proxy_bypass_hosts to route matching hostnames directly through ScreenshotOne’s network while other requests continue through the proxy. Values are hostname patterns, not full URLs. Check the exact option syntax in the options reference.

Know when a proxy retry can help
Retry through a proxy when the failure plausibly depends on the request’s network route, such as a network error, a selected error returned by the host, or a known block-page marker. A proxy may change how the destination sees the request, but it does not guarantee a successful capture or bypass every bot check or CAPTCHA.
Do not use a proxy retry to address an invalid API parameter, missing permission, bad selector, storage error, or quota limit. Those require correcting the request, access, selector, storage configuration, or quota issue; changing the route will not resolve them.

Troubleshoot common proxy problems
