The right selector and treatment depend on the page and whether you want the element omitted or shown once, so inspect the finished image.
Why sticky elements can repeat in a screenshot
A sticky element starts in its normal position and changes behavior after reaching a specified scroll threshold. A fixed element can remain positioned relative to the viewport as the page scrolls. When a capture method builds a tall image by handling the page across scroll positions, persistent interface elements may interact with that method in ways that produce repeated bars or controls. This is not guaranteed across all pages or screenshot engines; check the actual output.
CSS sticky positioning needs at least one inset, such as top, to behave as expected. See the MDN reference for CSS position.
Use Playwright to hide or restyle the element during capture
Playwright’s fullPage option captures the full scrollable page rather than only the visible viewport. Its screenshot-time style option applies CSS while the screenshot is taken. The style option is documented as added in Playwright v1.41; consult the Page API documentation for current details.

Install Playwright and its Chromium browser in a Node.js project, then save this as capture.js. Replace the example URL and selector with the target page and the element you inspected.

})();header.site-header is only an example, not a universal selector. Inspect the page’s DOM and replace it with the selector for the actual header or floating UI. If the element should appear once at the top, consider changing its positioning rather than hiding it; because that can alter layout, verify that the result still represents the page you intend to capture.
Check the result
- Open the image and confirm the repeated element is gone or appears only where intended.
- Check that the CSS selector matched the intended element and did not hide other content.
- Review the full page for missing sections, awkward gaps, or layout changes introduced by the temporary CSS.
Capture manually in Firefox
Firefox Developer Tools offers full-page screenshots and node screenshots. To expose the full-page control if it is missing, open DevTools Settings and enable “Take a screenshot of the entire page” under “Available Toolbox Buttons.” For one component, right-click its node in the Inspector’s HTML pane and choose “Screenshot Node.”

In the Web Console, :screenshot --fullpage captures beyond the visible window. Use --selector to capture a selected element and its descendants. See Firefox’s screenshot documentation for the documented controls and syntax.

Choose a capture method by what you need
- Full-page image: Use when you need the entire scrollable document in one image.
- One component: Use an element or node screenshot when only a specific part of the page matters.
- Repeatable automation: Use screenshot-time CSS when a particular header or control must be hidden or changed for each automated capture.
- Keep the original UI: If the element should appear once, try restyling its positioning instead of removing it, and inspect the resulting layout.
The documented features explain what these tools can capture; they do not guarantee identical sticky-element behavior on every page. There is no comparative benchmark established here, so choose based on the output you need and validate the image.
Troubleshooting
The sticky header still appears more than once
Confirm the selector matches the element that repeats, then ensure the screenshot call includes the style rule. Some pages use a different element for the mobile header or floating bar; inspect the page and target the actual UI in the captured viewport.

The CSS hides the wrong content
Make the selector more specific, such as the site’s header class rather than a broad header selector. Re-run the capture and inspect both the top and lower parts of the image.

Hiding a header does not guarantee the page will reflow as desired. If preserving a continuous layout matters, test a positioning change instead, then verify that the header is not repeated and the content remains correctly arranged.

A full-page screenshot is not what you need
Use a node or selector-based capture for a single component, or a regular viewport screenshot when only what is currently visible matters.
