Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a one-off screenshot, send a JSON POST request to Browserless’s REST /screenshot endpoint, then save the response body as binary data. The example below uses Node.js’s built-in fetch and reads your Browserless token from an environment variable.
Capture a screenshot with Browserless REST
Set BROWSERLESS_TOKEN in your environment, replace the example URL with the page you want, and run this script with Node.js. Browserless’s documented request sends the target URL and screenshot options in JSON; the token goes in the endpoint’s token query parameter. The response is image bytes, not JSON.
import fs from 'node:fs/promises';
const token = process.env.BROWSERLESS_TOKEN;
if (!token) throw new Error('Set BROWSERLESS_TOKEN');
const response = await fetch(
`https://production-sfo.browserless.io/screenshot?token=${encodeURIComponent(token)}`,
{
method: 'POST',
headers: {
'Cache-Control': 'no-cache',
'Content-Type': 'application/json',
},
body: JSON.stringify({
url: 'https://example.com',
options: { fullPage: true, type: 'png' },
}),
},
);
if (!response.ok) {
throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${response.status} ${response.statusText}`);
}
const bytes = Buffer.from(await response.arrayBuffer());
await fs.writeFile('screenshot.png', bytes);
Save the code as an .mjs file and run it with node filename.mjs. Set the token before running—for example, in a Unix-like shell, use export BROWSERLESS_TOKEN='your-token'. Keep the actual token out of source control. The HTTP status check and missing-token check are defensive additions; the official example demonstrates sending the request and saving its response bytes. See the Browserless screenshot guide for its current endpoint and examples.
Choose the capture options you need
Full-page or viewport
options.fullPage: true requests a screenshot of the full page rather than only the visible viewport. Long pages can contain lazy-loaded images that are not present until the page is scrolled. Browserless documents a scrollPage option for this case; use it with full-page capture when needed, and verify the current REST reference for the exact request shape.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Image type and quality
The screenshot endpoint supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP output through its type setting. Quality is relevant to lossy formats such as JPEG and WebP, not PNG. Check the current API reference for accepted values and option placement before adding a quality setting to your request.
Element or rectangle
To capture one element, the REST documentation describes a top-level selector that waits for the element and crops to its bounds. For a fixed rectangle, use options.clip. These are different capture modes; choose a selector when the target is a page element and a clip when you know the coordinates and dimensions.

Wait behavior and other controls
The screenshot mutation reference lists controls such as timeout and waitForImages, along with full-page and output-format controls. Browserless REST and BrowserQL are separate interfaces, so do not assume a field documented for one has the same location or support in the other. Consult the REST endpoint reference for the exact JSON schema in use.
When to use REST instead of Puppeteer or Playwright
| Approach | Best fit | Integration and cleanup |
|---|---|---|
Browserless REST /screenshot |
A single navigation and capture that does not require prior page interaction. | One HTTP request; no browser connection for your client to manage. |
| Puppeteer or Playwright over Browserless WebSocket | Workflows requiring page interaction, custom waiting, or multiple browser operations before capture. | Connect to a managed browser session and close it when finished so the session is released. |
Browserless characterizes REST as suitable for stateless, one-shot work. For browser-session workflows, its Puppeteer example uses puppeteer-core and puppeteer.connect(); the full puppeteer package downloads Chromium locally even though the browser in this arrangement runs remotely. Browserless also documents connecting with Playwright. Refer to the Puppeteer and Playwright documentation for the connection instructions and current endpoints.

Troubleshoot failed or incomplete screenshots
- Missing-token error: Confirm
BROWSERLESS_TOKENis set in the same environment that runs Node.js. Do not paste a real token into a committed script. - HTTP request fails: Inspect the status code and response details, verify the endpoint and token, and consult Browserless’s current REST documentation. The sample throws on non-success HTTP status rather than writing an error response as an image.
- Output is not a valid image: Ensure the request succeeded before saving the body, and use a filename extension matching the requested type. The successful response is binary image data; do not call
response.json(). - Page is cut off: Set
fullPage: trueinsideoptionsfor a full-page capture instead of a viewport image. - Lazy-loaded images are missing: The page may not load them until scrolled. Try the documented
scrollPage: truesetting alongside full-page capture, using the REST schema’s correct placement. - Blank page, CAPTCHA, or access denied: The destination may be blocking automated access. Browserless documents a separate
/unblockAPI for certain anti-bot cases, but that does not guarantee every site can be captured. - Element capture misses its target: Check that the selector matches an element rendered on the page and use the REST selector option, which waits for the element. If you need a fixed region instead, use a clip rectangle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I save the Browserless response as JSON?
No. The screenshot response is image bytes; read it as an array buffer and write the resulting buffer to a file.
Do I need Puppeteer or Playwright to use the REST screenshot endpoint?
No. The REST endpoint is a one-request option; use a Puppeteer or Playwright browser connection when the workflow needs interaction or multiple browser operations.
