To save an entire long webpage, choose the browser’s full-page option instead: Edge calls it Capture full page, Firefox calls it Save full page, and Chrome exposes Capture a full size screenshot in DevTools. A viewport capture and a full-page capture are different results.
Choose the capture you actually need
Decide the output before opening a menu:
- Visible viewport: records only the part of the page currently on screen.
- Entire page: captures content below the fold in one tall image.
- Selected area: records a rectangle you draw.
- Single element: captures one identified page element, such as a card or article.
Full-page tools may behave differently on pages with lazy loading, nested scroll containers, sticky headers, animations, or content that appears only after interaction. Treat the result as a capture of the page state at that moment, not a guarantee that every dynamic region will be represented perfectly.
Microsoft Edge: capture a visible area or full page
Open the Screenshot tool
- Open the webpage in Edge on a desktop computer.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also right-click an empty part of the page and choose Screenshot, or open Screenshot from Edge settings.
- Choose the capture mode from the overlay.
Save the entire webpage
Select Capture full page. Edge scrolls through the document and presents the resulting image in its overlay. From there, use the save control to write the file or copy it. You can mark up the image before saving with the available annotation tools.
Capture only part of the page
Choose the area-selection option and drag over the content you want. This is useful when a full-page image would be unnecessarily tall or when you need to exclude surrounding navigation.
Microsoft notes that Screenshot availability and behavior can vary by device type, market, and Edge version. If the command is missing, update Edge and check the browser’s settings or context menu.

Firefox: save the visible view, a selection, or the full page
Use the page context menu
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page for the complete document or Save visible for the current viewport.
Use the keyboard shortcut
On Windows and Linux, press Ctrl+Shift+S. On macOS, press Command+Shift+S. Firefox then opens the same screenshot controls.
Select a region or element
Drag across a region to define a rectangle, or point to a page element when Firefox highlights it and select that element. This can produce a cleaner image than manually cropping a full-page capture.
Firefox’s capture panel lets you copy the result or save it as an image. If the menu item is unavailable, make sure you right-click the page itself rather than a browser toolbar or an embedded control.
Chrome: use DevTools for a full-size screenshot
Capture only the viewport
Open Chrome DevTools, enable Device Mode, and open the DevTools More options menu. Choose Capture screenshot to record the emulated viewport.
Capture the complete document
- Open the target page in Chrome.
- Open DevTools and turn on Device Mode.
- Open the DevTools More options menu.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot.
Chrome captures content beyond the visible viewport. This workflow is in developer tools, so it has more setup than Edge’s or Firefox’s dedicated screenshot menus.

Capture a custom rectangle
Open Chrome’s Command Menu and run Capture area screenshot. Draw the area to export. The command name may be easiest to find by opening the Command Menu and typing “capture.”
Firefox Developer Tools: capture a page or a single node
Enable full-page capture
- Open Firefox Developer Tools.
- Open toolbox settings.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page if the full-page button is not already shown.
- Use the DevTools screenshot control. Firefox saves the resulting image in your Downloads folder.
Capture one HTML element
In the Inspector, right-click the element and choose Screenshot Node. This is useful for a component whose boundaries are clear in the document, such as a product tile or a rendered chart.

Menu wording and availability depend on the browser version and device. The fastest route is usually Edge or Firefox’s built-in panel; Chrome is appropriate when you already need DevTools or want its device emulation.
How to get a clean, readable result
Prepare the page first
- Wait for visible content, fonts, and images to finish loading.
- Set the browser zoom and window size deliberately; these affect viewport captures.
- Dismiss dialogs that cover the content if they should not appear in the image.
- Pause videos or animations when a stable frame matters.
- For a full page, scroll once through content that loads only when it enters the viewport, then capture again.
Check the output
Look for duplicated sticky headers, blank lazy-loaded images, clipped fixed-position widgets, or sections that remain inside their own scroll box. If the page contains a nested scrolling region, the browser may capture the region’s visible state rather than every item hidden inside it.
Respect privacy and rights
Before sharing, inspect the image for account names, email addresses, order numbers, tokens, internal URLs, and notification previews. A screenshot can also include copyrighted or confidential material; obtain permission when your use requires it.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
The full-page option is missing
Confirm that you are using the desktop browser, not a mobile view or an embedded in-app browser. Update the browser, reopen the page, and try the documented menu again. In Firefox DevTools, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page in toolbox settings.

The image stops at the fold
You selected a viewport command. In Edge choose Capture full page; in Firefox choose Save full page; in Chrome choose Capture a full size screenshot rather than the similarly named viewport command.
Images or text are blank
Wait for network activity and fonts to finish, disable a temporary content blocker if it is preventing required assets, and retry. For lazy-loaded images, scroll through the page first. A resource blocked by the site, an extension, or a login requirement cannot be repaired by the screenshot command itself.
The result is extremely tall or hard to use
Capture a selected area, a single element, or several logical sections instead. A full-page image is convenient for archival use but may be difficult to read in a chat, document, or issue tracker.
A fixed header appears repeatedly
Sticky elements can be rendered at each scroll position during a full-page operation. If repetition makes the image unusable, capture the article in sections or use an element-specific workflow.

Open DevTools, enable Device Mode, then use the More options menu. If you still cannot locate a command, open the Command Menu and search for “Capture a full size screenshot” or “Capture area screenshot.”
A page requires a login or blocks automation
Sign in through the normal browser session and verify that you are allowed to capture the content. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, and security interstitials may prevent a meaningful page image; do not attempt to bypass access controls.

When a browser extension is worth considering
Use the built-in tools first. Consider an extension only when you need a feature your browser lacks, such as specialized image processing, repeatable presets, or a particular export format. Check its privacy policy, permissions, supported browsers, and whether processing occurs locally or on a remote server before installing it. Vendor descriptions are not independent verification, so avoid granting broad access to sensitive pages without a clear reason.
