To capture a page behind a login, first authenticate in a browser you control, open the exact URL, wait for its private content to finish loading, then print it to PDF or take a full-page screenshot. For automation, a plain URL is not enough: the capture browser must receive a valid session cookie, HTTP Basic Authentication credential, or authorization header that the site accepts. Capture only pages you are entitled to access, and check the site’s rules before retaining or sharing the result.
Choose the right capture method

Capture a logged-in page manually
- Sign in normally. Use the browser and account that are authorized to view the page. Complete any multi-factor or consent step the site requires.
- Open the precise page. Do not assume that signing in at the home page makes every deep link available. Navigate to the URL you need and confirm that private text, tables, charts or downloads are visible.
- Wait for deferred content. Single-page applications and dashboard widgets may render after navigation. Wait until charts, lower sections and images have appeared; scrolling through the page can trigger lazy loading.
- Choose an output. Use the browser’s print dialog and select a PDF destination for a document-like copy. Use the browser or operating system screenshot command for a visual record. For a long page, use a full-page screenshot feature or print to several pages.
- Verify the file. Open the saved PDF or image. Check that it contains the private page rather than a login screen, consent prompt, spinner, blank area or clipped lower section.
Menu names differ by browser and operating system, so the exact command may not be identical everywhere. The important checks are authentication, completed rendering and inspection of the saved result.
Automate a page that requires authentication
A new remote browser starts without your local session history. Automation therefore has to supply an authentication mechanism the target site actually supports. Do not send a password in a cookie field or assume that an authorization header can replace a session cookie.
Session cookies
After you sign in, the site may identify the session with one or more cookies. A capture service or browser runner must let you provide a current, authorized cookie and must send it to the correct domain. WebsiteArchiver documents a workflow in which you sign in inside its built-in browser, enable saved cookies for the capture and retry if a consent wall or expired login blocked the first attempt. Its documentation says saved cookies remain on the device and are used when you explicitly request them. Treat exported cookies as credentials: limit access, avoid putting them in source control and replace them if they are exposed.

HTTP Basic Authentication
Some sites challenge the browser with HTTP Basic Authentication rather than a form-based login. Cloudflare Browser Run documents a separate authenticate parameter for this mechanism. Use it only when the server actually uses Basic Auth; a normal web form will not be satisfied by sending Basic Auth credentials.
Authorization headers and tokens
APIs and protected applications may expect a bearer token or another authorization header. Cloudflare’s documentation describes passing token-based authentication through custom request headers. Keep tokens short-lived where possible, scope them to the required resource and ensure the capture system does not expose them in logs.
Use the site’s supported method
These mechanisms are distinct. A valid cookie can still fail if the session is expired, bound to a different device, or protected by an additional challenge. A token can fail because its audience, scope or origin is wrong. Test the same mechanism in a controlled browser request before scheduling captures.

Make full-page and JavaScript content appear
Request the whole page
A viewport screenshot records only what fits in the browser window. If the archive must include the entire scrollable document, enable the tool’s full-page option. Cloudflare documents a fullPage screenshot option.
Wait for rendering
Navigation completion does not always mean that the dashboard is ready. JavaScript-heavy pages can still be fetching data or constructing charts. Use a delay, a wait for a specific selector, or a network-idle condition when your tool provides one. Prefer a selector that represents the actual private content, such as a table or chart container, rather than waiting an arbitrary number of seconds.
Check lazy loading and overlays
Scroll-triggered images may not exist until the page is traversed. Consent dialogs, newsletter forms and chat widgets can cover the page even after authentication. Dismiss or hide them before capture, then inspect the output at the top, middle and bottom.

Troubleshooting
The result is the login page
The capture did not receive a usable session, or the session expired. Sign in again in the capture browser, provide a fresh authorized cookie, or use the site’s documented Basic Auth or authorization-header method. Confirm that the cookie domain and path match the target URL.
A consent wall blocks the page
Complete the consent step in the authenticated browser and retry. For automation, enable the tool’s consent handling if available, then verify that the saved session still reaches the private content.

Increase the render wait or wait for a selector that appears only when the private data is ready. Request full-page output and inspect whether an API request, chart, image or lazy-loaded section failed.

Only the visible viewport was saved
Enable the full-page option. If the site virtualizes a table or loads rows while scrolling, capture after the required rows are present or use the application’s own export when one is provided.
A widget covers the content
Dismiss the widget before a manual capture. In automation, hide the widget selector or use consent and popup cleanup, then check several points in the final file.
The session works locally but not remotely
Local browser state is not automatically available to a fresh remote browser. Transfer an authorized cookie or token through the capture tool’s secure mechanism, or perform the sign-in inside that tool’s browser. Some sites bind sessions to device, IP address or an additional challenge, in which case a copied cookie may not be sufficient.

Security, reliability and cost considerations
- Capture only content your account is permitted to view, and follow the site’s terms for storage and redistribution.
- Never publish session cookies, passwords or bearer tokens in URLs, source code or logs. Revoke or rotate credentials after accidental exposure.
- Record the capture time and authentication context when an archive may be used for audit purposes; sessions and page content can change.
- For repeat jobs, validate the output and alert on a login page, timeout or missing selector instead of silently archiving an error.
- Choose PDF for selectable, paginated text and screenshots for visual fidelity. A screenshot and a PDF are different records, so retain the format that meets your purpose.
FAQ
Can a URL by itself include my login?
No. A URL does not carry your browser’s login state. The capture environment needs a valid cookie, Basic Auth credential or authorization header supported by the site.
How long will a captured login remain valid?
There is no universal expiry period. Session duration and re-authentication rules vary by site, account and security policy.
Is a screenshot proof that I was authorized?
No. The file shows what was captured, not the permission under which it was obtained. Keep access records and follow the site’s rules.
