Set the proxy on the browser options before starting the Selenium session, then navigate to the page and save a screenshot. Selenium’s standard Python screenshot method captures the current browser window—not necessarily the whole document. For a full-page image, use a browser-specific method that your driver documents, such as Firefox’s full-page screenshot API.
Capture a page through a browser proxy
This Python example configures a manual proxy for Chrome, opens a page, saves the current window as a PNG, checks whether the save succeeded, and always closes the browser. Replace proxy.example:8080 with the endpoint and port supplied for your authorized proxy, and replace the sample page URL as needed.

Check the proxy provider’s instructions and the selected browser’s support. What the screenshot contains
Current browser window
Selenium’s Python WebDriver API describes save_screenshot(filename) as saving the current window to a PNG image file. The output normally reflects the visible browser window, so content below the fold may not appear. Its related get_screenshot_as_file(filename) method also saves a PNG and returns a boolean; check the result and use a path the process can write to. The API also offers get_screenshot_as_png() for PNG bytes and get_screenshot_as_base64() for Base64 data.

A full-page screenshot includes content beyond the current viewport. The cited Selenium Python Firefox API documents get_full_page_screenshot_as_file(filename) and save_full_page_screenshot(filename), along with byte and Base64 variants. These are Firefox driver methods; do not assume the same method is available in Chrome or every other browser. Check the current API documentation for your browser and Selenium version before relying on a browser-specific full-page option.
Set the proxy in the right place
When the page visit itself must use a proxy, configure it in the browser options as in the example. Selenium Manager has a separate proxy setting—available through --proxy, the proxy configuration key, and SE_PROXY—for Selenium Manager’s own network connections when it manages browser or driver components. Proxy authentication depends on the browser, proxy protocol, authentication method, and endpoint configuration. Do not assume that putting a username and password in a proxy URL will work in every browser. Follow the provider’s browser-specific guidance or use an authentication method supported by your setup. Keep credentials in a secret store or environment configuration rather than source code, and avoid exposing them in logs.
Debug proxy and screenshot problems
- Separate browser startup from proxy issues. First confirm the driver starts and can load a known test page without the proxy. Then configure the browser proxy and try a page you are authorized to access.
- Check whether page traffic is using the proxy. If needed, inspect the resulting page or use a trusted endpoint to check the apparent egress network. This is a diagnostic approach, not a Selenium screenshot feature.
- Isolate connection failures. If the browser cannot reach the site, investigate the proxy endpoint, protocol, network access, and authentication before troubleshooting the image file. Selenium’s proxy options pattern does not establish compatibility with every proxy service.
- Check the saved file. Save to an absolute or otherwise known writable path, inspect the boolean returned by the file-saving method, and verify that the image exists and opens. A failed save can be an I/O or permissions problem even when the page loaded.
- Choose the required page extent. If the image misses below-the-fold content, determine whether a viewport capture is sufficient. If the entire document is required, use a full-page method documented for the browser driver in use.

Does Selenium’s regular screenshot method capture the whole webpage?
No. The standard Python method saves the current browser window. Full-document capture is a separate, browser-specific capability; the cited full-page methods are documented for Firefox.
