Set the browser context locale to fr-FR before navigating, then capture the rendered page. In Playwright, this requests French browser-language behavior; it does not by itself set the timezone or guarantee that the website will display French. Verify the page before treating the screenshot as a French-localized result.
Capture a French-locale screenshot with Playwright
This standalone Node.js example starts Chromium, creates a context with French locale emulation, navigates to a page, and saves a full-page PNG:

Set locale before navigation—and verify the result
Locale belongs on the browser context, which should be created before opening and navigating the page. A French locale can influence browser language behavior, but the website can still choose content using its URL, account settings, region, stored preferences, or application logic. Check the rendered page rather than assuming the locale setting translated it.
If the page relies on client-side rendering, wait for the specific content your capture needs before taking the screenshot. A fixed delay can work for a known, stable page, but waiting for a relevant selector is usually more reliable than guessing how many milliseconds the page needs.
Choose the screenshot scope and output
- Viewport: Captures what is visible in the browser window. Use this for an agent inspecting the current screen.
- Full page: Use
fullPage: trueto include content beyond the fold. Playwright describes this as capturing the full scrollable page. - Element: Use a locator’s screenshot method when only a specific component matters. Full-page and target-element capture are different modes; Playwright MCP documents that
fullPagecannot be combined with a target.
Playwright MCP exposes an agent-facing browser_take_screenshot tool for viewport, target, or full-scrollable-page capture, with PNG, JPEG, or WebP and CSS-pixel or device-pixel scale options. Use an accessibility snapshot for reading page structure or interacting with references; the MCP documentation positions screenshots for visual inspection: Playwright MCP documentation.

Locale is not timezone
locale: 'fr-FR' configures browser locale emulation, not Paris time. If the page must render dates or times as they would in Paris, set the timezone separately in the context:

Choose this when the AI agent should operate a browser through an MCP tool rather than run custom screenshot code directly. Set up the browser context with the required locale in the browser environment; screenshot controls alone do not establish the locale.

Chrome DevTools MCP
Chrome DevTools MCP documents screenshot controls for format, compression quality, maximum width, and maximum height. PNG is the default; JPEG and WebP are also listed, and the documentation notes that JPEG and WebP can reduce image context size in AI conversations. Hosted browser sessions
For a remote browser controlled through Chrome DevTools Protocol, Cloudflare’s Agents documentation describes Browser Run as beta browser tooling that can inspect rendered pages and capture screenshots. Troubleshooting
The page is still in another language
Confirm that locale: 'fr-FR' is set on the context before navigation. Then inspect the site’s language selector, account preferences, URL, and rendered content: the site may not use browser locale as its language choice.
The screenshot misses content or captures a loading state
Wait for the page’s relevant content or selector to appear before capture. For content below the fold, select full-page capture. If the page loads elements lazily as they enter the viewport, make sure they have loaded before treating the result as complete.

Set timezoneId: 'Europe/Paris' separately from locale. If the discrepancy is in the test runner rather than the browser page, configure the runner timezone independently.

The screenshot is too large for an agent
Reduce the captured scope or use an output format and scale appropriate to the task. Playwright MCP supports CSS-pixel or device-pixel scale; Chrome DevTools MCP documents format, quality, and dimension controls. Device-pixel captures can be larger.
A hosted-browser capture is unavailable
Cloudflare documents Browser Run as beta. If that route does not suit your availability or deployment needs, a local Playwright browser context is a direct alternative.
