For a scrolling screenshot of an entire webpage, open it in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, then review and save or copy the result. To capture only what is visible on screen, press Windows+Shift+S and select an area with Snipping Tool. These are different jobs: Snipping Tool captures the screen; Edge’s full-page option captures webpage content beyond the screen.
Choose the right screenshot method
Start with the scope you need. A selection, a browser window, the entire display, and a complete scrolling webpage are not interchangeable: each shortcut captures a different area and sends the result to a different place.

If you are unsure, decide whether “whole page” means the visible browser window or everything down the webpage. For a page that continues below the fold, use Edge’s full-page capture. Microsoft describes the feature as capturing an entire webpage in one screenshot, including content beyond the screen; that is Microsoft’s product description, not a guarantee for every site or device.
Capture a selected part of the screen with Snipping Tool
- Open the webpage and arrange the content you want to show. Scroll to the right position and close anything you do not want included.
- Press Windows+Shift+S to open the snipping overlay.
- Choose a capture mode. Microsoft documents freeform, rectangular, window, and full-screen image snips. For a rectangular selection, drag around the part of the page you want.
- Use the Snipping Tool notification to open the capture in its editor. Crop or annotate if needed, then save or share it.
A selected-region snip records the screen as it appears; it does not extend the capture down the webpage as you scroll. Use the Edge procedure below when the requested image needs content that is not currently visible.

Where the snip goes
Snipping Tool copies the capture, and current Microsoft guidance says captured snips are automatically saved to the Screenshots folder. You can change that behavior or folder in Snipping Tool Settings, or use Save as to choose another location. If you need to paste the image into another application, use the clipboard; if you need a file in a particular folder or format, save it explicitly and check the destination.
Capture an entire scrolling webpage in Edge
- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open Screenshot from the Edge menu.
- Choose Capture full page. Use Capture area if you only want a portion of the page.
- Review the capture, then save it to files or copy it.
Edge’s full-page Screenshot is the built-in option in this guide for capturing content below the visible screen. A 2024 Microsoft Edge tutorial used the name Web capture for this workflow; labels can change, so look for the current Screenshot and Capture full page options rather than relying on an older name.
When the result needs to be a document, not an image
If the goal is a cleaner printable copy or a PDF rather than an image screenshot, use Edge’s print workflow with Ctrl+P. Microsoft also documents Immersive Reader as a clutter-free printing workaround on sites where that feature is available. Printing is a document workflow; it is not the same as producing a screenshot image.

Save a window or full-screen image with keyboard shortcuts
Save everything on the display
Press Windows+PrtScn. Windows saves a full-screen capture in the PicturesScreenshots folder. In File Explorer, open Pictures, then Screenshots. This shortcut is useful when you want a file without first opening the snipping overlay, but it captures the display rather than a complete scrolling webpage.

Copy only the active window
Click the browser window you want to capture so it is active, then press Alt+PrtScn. The active-window image goes to the clipboard. Paste it into an image editor, document, or other application that accepts images; this shortcut does not itself save a screenshot file.
If your keyboard has no PrtScn key
Microsoft says Fn+Windows logo key+Space Bar may work on some devices without a Print Screen button. Keyboard layouts and manufacturer settings differ, so if it does not work, use Windows+Shift+S or the device’s documented key combination.

Know what each capture includes
- Snipping Tool selection: the chosen visible screen area. It is the straightforward choice for a crop, an error message, or a small section of a webpage.
- Active-window shortcut: the active application window, copied to the clipboard. It does not save the entire scrolling page.
- Full-screen shortcut: the display, saved in PicturesScreenshots. Use it when the whole screen matters, not just the webpage.
- Edge Capture full page: the webpage beyond the visible screen, with an option to review and save or copy. Availability and behavior can vary by device, market, and browser version.
- Print or PDF: a document-style output rather than an image capture. Use it when readability on paper or a printable document matters more than preserving the screen as an image.
For any method, inspect the finished result before sharing. A screenshot can include browser chrome, other open windows, or page content you did not intend to reveal, depending on the capture scope. Save only what you need and check that the important text is legible at the resulting size.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
Ctrl+Shift+S does not show Capture full page
Check that you are using Microsoft Edge and inspect the current browser menu for Screenshot. Microsoft notes that feature availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version. A missing option does not establish that Windows Snipping Tool can capture a scrolling webpage; Microsoft’s Snipping Tool guidance documents screen, window, and selected-region capture, not a scrolling-page mode.

PrtScn opens the snipping overlay instead
Print Screen behavior can depend on Windows settings. Microsoft says the key can be configured to open screen snipping. To change that setting, open Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard and turn off the option that uses the Print Screen key to open screen snipping. Shortcut behavior can also vary by application and device.

You cannot find the saved screenshot
For the Windows+PrtScn shortcut, check File Explorer > Pictures > Screenshots. For a Snipping Tool capture, open the notification or use Save as to choose and confirm a location. Clipboard-only captures, including Alt+PrtScn, must be pasted into another application or saved from an editor before they become a file.
The screenshot is only part of the webpage
If you used Windows+Shift+S, Alt+PrtScn, or Windows+PrtScn, the result reflects the selected region, active window, or screen—not an entire scrolling webpage. In Edge, try Ctrl+Shift+S > Capture full page. If that option is not available, check Edge’s current menu and version; Microsoft says availability can vary.
The Print Screen key is unavailable
Try Fn+Windows logo key+Space Bar on a device without a PrtScn button; Microsoft notes that it may work on some devices. Otherwise, the Windows+Shift+S overlay does not depend on finding a separate Print Screen key.

Which method should you use?
For a cropped area of the visible page, use Windows+Shift+S. For the entire scrolling page, use Edge’s Capture full page option when it is available. Choose Windows+PrtScn for a full-screen file or Alt+PrtScn for an active-window image copied to the clipboard. If you actually need a printable document, use Edge’s print workflow instead of treating a PDF as a screenshot.
