To capture an Indian-language page with Selenium without catching a temporary fallback font, wait for the page’s required content, then wait for its used web fonts to finish loading before saving the screenshot. Selenium’s screenshot command captures the current browser context; it does not guarantee that dynamic page updates or fonts are ready.
Capture the page after its content and fonts are ready
This Python example waits for document navigation to complete, then waits for the browser’s font-loading set to settle before saving a viewport screenshot. Replace the example URL and add a page-specific wait for the text or element that must appear.
from selenium import webdriver
from selenium.webdriver.support.ui import WebDriverWait
url = "https://example.com"
driver = webdriver.Chrome()
try:
driver.get(url)
# Navigation readiness is not enough for every dynamic page.
WebDriverWait(driver, 15).until(
lambda d: d.execute_script("return document.readyState") == "complete"
)
# Wait for used fonts and their resulting layout work.
driver.execute_async_script("""
const done = arguments[arguments.length - 1];
document.fonts.ready.then(() => done(true), () => done(false));
""")
driver.save_screenshot("screenshot.png")
finally:
driver.quit()
Selenium’s default navigation wait is based on document readiness, but JavaScript applications can continue changing the page after navigation. Use an explicit wait for the actual content your capture needs rather than relying on readiness alone (Selenium waiting strategies; Selenium browser options).

Check that the intended regional font is actually being used
“Indian regional font” does not identify one universal typeface. The correct family depends on the script, page styles, font resources, and operating system. Inspect the target text’s computed font-family in the browser’s developer tools, and check the page’s font requests and the saved image. Confirm that representative text in the language you need renders as expected—not as boxes, blank spaces, or a visibly different fallback.
If you need to request a particular face explicitly, use the CSS family name declared by the page and representative text in the target script. For example, the browser API can be called from Selenium like this:

- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
driver.execute_async_script("""
const done = arguments[arguments.length - 1];
document.fonts.load('16px "Expected Font Family"', 'नमूना पाठ')
.then(faces => done({loaded: faces.length, status: document.fonts.status}))
.catch(error => done({error: String(error)}));
""")
Replace Expected Font Family and the sample text with the page’s actual family and the script you are capturing. The load() text argument can filter by a font’s Unicode range, but it does not test coverage glyph by glyph. A successful load is not a substitute for inspecting representative rendered characters (MDN: FontFaceSet.load; MDN: CSS Font Loading API).
Choose a viewport screenshot or an element screenshot
driver.save_screenshot() saves a screenshot of the current browsing context. Use an element screenshot when you need only one particular element and want to omit surrounding page content:

element = driver.find_element("css selector", "main .target")
element.screenshot("element.png")
Selenium documents separate endpoints for the browsing context and an individual element. Do not assume the standard page screenshot captures the entire document beyond the viewport; confirm the behavior required by your browser and binding (Selenium screenshot documentation).
Make repeat captures comparable
- Set the browser window size: screen resolution can change page layout. Fix the window dimensions used by your run and keep them consistent.
- Keep the rendering environment stable: browser version, operating-system image, device scale factor, and installed fonts can all affect the result. Do not expect pixel-identical images across uncontrolled environments.
- Use the same execution mode: headless and headed runs should be treated as distinct rendering environments unless verified otherwise. Selenium documents headless screenshot examples and browser window sizing (Selenium windows and tabs).
- Wait for the page’s own state: if content appears after an API request or interaction, wait for that content explicitly before waiting for fonts and capturing.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect text
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Text appears in a fallback font | The intended web font has not loaded, or the page is not using the family you expect. | Inspect computed font-family and font requests; await document.fonts.ready. If needed, request the expected face with document.fonts.load(), then visually inspect target-script text. The API does not certify every glyph. |
| Text or layout is missing | The page changed after Selenium’s navigation readiness condition. | Wait for a selector or state that identifies the required page content, then wait for fonts and capture (Selenium waiting strategies). |
| Headless screenshot differs from expectation | Window dimensions, browser version, operating-system fonts, or execution mode differ. | Set an explicit window size, use a known browser environment, and inspect the saved image. |
| Explicit font load returns no face or fails | The CSS family name or font URL may be wrong, network access may fail, or the face may not be declared as expected. | Check the page’s CSS and network requests, then inspect the Font Loading API’s returned faces and status (MDN: CSS Font Loading API). |
Or skip the browser setup

Frequently asked questions
Does waiting for fonts prove that all characters in my language are supported?
No. Font readiness indicates loading and layout status, not complete glyph coverage. Check representative text in the rendered screenshot.
Can Selenium capture just one element?
Yes. Locate it with WebDriver and call its screenshot(path) method; use driver.save_screenshot(path) for the current browsing context.
