In Opera desktop, open the page, launch Snapshot with the camera icon or Ctrl + Shift + 5 (Windows/Linux) or Command + Shift + 5 (macOS), select an area, and click Capture. You can then annotate, copy, save, or—in versions that provide it—choose Capture Full Screen. The exact controls vary by Opera release, so check your installed version when you need a screenshot beyond the visible viewport.
Use Opera Snapshot to capture a webpage
Snapshot is Opera’s built-in desktop capture tool; you do not need a separate screenshot application or browser extension for the normal workflow.
1. Open the page in Opera desktop
Navigate to the webpage you want to capture and wait for the content you need to appear. If a menu, tooltip, animation, or video frame matters, leave it in the desired state before opening Snapshot.
2. Launch Snapshot
- Click Opera’s camera icon when it is visible. Depending on the release, the control may appear in the address bar or the sidebar.
- Alternatively, press Ctrl + Shift + 5 on Windows or Linux, or Command + Shift + 5 on macOS.
Opera’s interface placement has changed between releases. The shortcut is the more consistent route, but it can be customized or unavailable if another command has taken the key combination.

3. Select what to capture
Snapshot displays an adjustable frame. Drag its edges or reposition it over the part of the webpage you want, then choose Capture. This is useful for a single article, dialog, product card, or other bounded region rather than the entire browser window.
4. Try the full-screen option when available
Opera’s desktop feature announcements document a Capture Full Screen command for a full web view. Select it when that control appears. Do not assume that every current Opera build creates a complete, top-to-bottom image of a long, scrolling document: current help and comparison material emphasizes cropping or selecting a webpage area, while older feature posts describe the full-screen command. If you need a document-length capture, verify the result by checking the bottom of the saved image.
5. Edit and export the result
After capture, use the tools shown in your version. Opera examples include pencil marks, arrows, blur, zoom, emoji, highlighting, text, and crop; the available set can differ by release.
- Copy: place the image on the clipboard for a document, email, issue tracker, or chat.
- Save: export an image file. Opera’s earlier instructions specify PNG output; newer releases also describe saving as an image.
- Pinboards: some versions let you add the capture to Pinboards.
Keyboard shortcut and camera-icon problems
The shortcut does nothing
First confirm that you are using the desktop browser and the correct platform combination. On macOS, use Command rather than Ctrl. If another application or Opera command owns the shortcut, open Settings > Advanced > Browser > Shortcuts > Configure shortcuts and inspect or change the Snapshot binding. You can also use the camera icon if your build displays it.

The camera icon is missing
Opera has moved Snapshot between the sidebar and address-bar controls in different releases. Look in both locations, then check the shortcut configuration. Updating Opera may change where the control appears, so document the exact version when giving instructions to colleagues.
Snapshot captures the wrong area
Resize the adjustable frame before clicking Capture. Close menus or overlays that are not meant to be included, and scroll to the section you want for a selected-area image. For a long page, use the full-screen command if present and inspect the output rather than assuming it includes content below the viewport.
What “full page” means in Opera
There are three different capture scopes that are often called a webpage screenshot:

Opera’s published feature posts use “Capture Full Screen” for a full web view, but current general documentation does not establish that every build stitches the entire scrolling document. If the output ends at the viewport, capture the page in sections or use an automation tool designed for full-page rendering.

Quality and privacy checklist
- Wait for images, charts, and fonts to finish loading before opening Snapshot.
- Check the address bar and browser tabs for passwords, tokens, or private URLs before sharing.
- Use blur or crop to remove personal data; confirm that blurred text cannot be inferred from surrounding context.
- Capture at the page zoom level that keeps text readable without clipping controls.
- For dynamic pages, pause animations or capture the state that demonstrates the issue.
- Open the saved file once to verify dimensions, format, and the bottom edge.
Automating screenshots instead of using Opera’s UI
For repeated captures, a browser UI is slower and harder to standardize. Opera also has a separate developer-oriented Browser CLI that documents screenshot commands, including a --full-page option. That is an automation route, not the normal Snapshot workflow; follow the CLI version’s own syntax and test it against your Opera installation.

Only the visible viewport is saved
This usually means your Opera build provided a selected-area capture rather than a document stitch. Try Capture Full Screen, verify the resulting image, or capture sections manually. For repeatable top-to-bottom output, use an automation API such as ScreenshotNeo’s full-page option.
The page is blank or partly loaded
Wait for network activity and lazy-loaded content to finish, then reopen Snapshot. A page that depends on login, geolocation, or a blocked script may not render the same way in an automated tool; compare the browser view with the captured file.
Cookie banners or chat cover the content

You need a PDF rather than an image
Snapshot is an image workflow. Use the browser’s print dialog for a local document, or ScreenshotNeo’s PDF capture with paper size, margins, orientation, and page-range controls when generating PDFs through an API.
