For a page-length document, use Safari’s print dialog and save the result as a PDF: press Command-P, choose the PDF option, then select Save as PDF. That produces a document, not one tall screenshot image. Safari on Mac’s standard screenshot shortcuts capture the screen, a window, or a selected area—not an automatically scrolling webpage. Apple’s Safari instructions also offer Web Archive when you want to keep webpage resources.
Choose the format that matches what you need

Save the whole page as a PDF
- Open the webpage in Safari and let the content you need load.
- Press Command-P, or choose File > Print.
- Inspect the print preview. If it includes the material you need, choose the PDF button or PDF menu in the print dialog.
- Select Save as PDF, choose a filename and location, then save.
- Open the PDF and check the pages, images, and links before sharing or relying on it.
Apple documents the Safari print shortcut and the Mac print dialog’s PDF-saving workflow in its Safari printing instructions and Mac PDF instructions. A PDF is useful as a page-length document, but the sources do not promise an exact reproduction of every onscreen detail or dynamic element. Preview the result rather than assuming it matches the live page.
Save a Web Archive or source HTML
Web Archive for webpage resources
- In Safari, choose File > Save As.
- Open the Format menu and choose Web Archive.
- Name the file, choose where to save it, and select Save.
Apple describes Web Archive as a way to save a webpage with its graphics and links. A saved link still depends on its destination webpage remaining available. Some websites may prevent saving items displayed on their pages. See Apple’s instructions for saving part or all of a webpage in Safari.
Page Source for code, not appearance
Choose File > Save As and select Page Source from the format options if you need the HTML source. This saves source code; it is not a page-long screenshot and does not, by itself, preserve the rendered page as a visual archive.

Capture only what is on screen with macOS
- Shift-Command-3 captures the screen.
- Shift-Command-4 lets you select an area.
- Shift-Command-5 opens Screenshot controls.
These are useful for a visible section or other on-screen content. They do not automatically scroll through Safari and join the entire webpage into one image. Apple’s Mac screenshot instructions describe screen, window, and selected-area captures, not a built-in full-page Safari capture.
When the result is incomplete or looks different
- Content is missing from the PDF: Check the print preview and saved PDF. Make sure the relevant content has loaded before printing; the available documentation does not establish a universal fix for pages whose content depends on scripts, sign-in, or loading state.
- A saved webpage is missing items: Some websites may prevent saving displayed content. Try PDF for a document if it contains what you need, or keep the live page accessible where appropriate; neither approach guarantees every dynamic element.
- Links in the Web Archive do not open: Apple notes that links work as long as their destination pages remain available.
- You got a screen-sized image rather than a full page: That is expected from the documented macOS screenshot shortcuts. Use print-to-PDF for a page-length document, or a separate full-page image capture method if a single image is required.
