To capture one element with Urlbox, pass its CSS selector in the render request’s selector option. In Chrome, right-click the element, choose Inspect, then right-click the highlighted node and choose Copy > Copy selector. Use that selector in your request. [Urlbox’s element screenshot guide]
Find the element’s CSS selector in Chrome
- Open the page you want to capture in Chrome.
- Right-click the element and select Inspect. Chrome opens DevTools with the corresponding element selected in the Elements tab.
- Right-click the selected element in the Elements tab and choose Copy > Copy selector.
- Use the copied selector as the value of Urlbox’s
selectorrender option.
Check that the selector identifies the intended element. A copied selector can be long or tied to the current page structure; if the page changes, it may no longer identify the same node.
Pass the selector to Urlbox
Urlbox’s synchronous API accepts a render request containing the target URL and selector. The documented example uses a JSON request with url and selector fields:

Handle missing or late-loading elements
When the selector does not match
By default, Urlbox takes a normal viewport screenshot if it cannot find the requested selector. That fallback may look like a successful capture even though it contains the whole viewport rather than the target. Set fail_if_selector_missing=true when you want the render to fail instead of returning that fallback. See Urlbox’s render options.
When the element appears after the page loads
For content added after initial loading, configure wait_for to wait for a selector to appear and use wait_timeout to set the wait duration. Choose settings based on how the target page behaves; there is no universal delay that suits every site. The available options are documented in Urlbox’s render options.

Element capture is different from full-page capture
Use selector when the goal is one element. Urlbox’s full_page option is for a whole scrollable page, not a substitute for selecting a single element. Its screenshot documentation describes stitch as the default full-page mode and native as a faster alternative that may not work as well on every site. These full-page modes address a different capture goal. See Urlbox’s screenshots documentation.
Troubleshooting
- The result shows the viewport instead of the element: Urlbox may not have found the selector and used its default viewport fallback. Verify the selector against the page, and enable
fail_if_selector_missing=trueif a missing target should produce an error. - The element is missing because it loads late: Set
wait_forfor a selector that appears when the target is ready, then tunewait_timeoutfor that page. - The selector works in DevTools but not in a later capture: Confirm the page still has the same relevant structure and that the selector identifies the intended element at capture time.
- You captured too much of the page: Make sure the request uses the target element’s CSS selector in
selector;full_pageis intended for full-page capture.
