Scroll the page to the desired document coordinates, then save a normal WebDriver screenshot. In Python, driver.execute_script("window.scrollTo(0, 1200)") moves the page 1,200 CSS pixels down; driver.save_screenshot("page.png") captures the viewport at that position.
Capture the viewport at a chosen scroll position
A WebDriver screenshot captures the current browsing context. Set the page position first, then take the screenshot. Selenium IDE’s FAQ demonstrates coordinate scrolling with window.scrollTo(0,1000); Selenium’s Python API documents saving the current window screenshot as a PNG file. driver.save_screenshot("page.png")Replace 1200 with the vertical offset you need. The coordinates are CSS pixels. To scroll horizontally as well, use a nonzero first coordinate—for example, window.scrollTo(300, 1200).

driver.quit()Remove the leading space before driver = webdriver.Chrome() if copying the code exactly; it should align with try. The screenshot contains the browser viewport at the resulting scroll position, not the entire page.
Wait for the page to be ready before capturing
A fixed coordinate scroll does not guarantee that content has finished loading or that a lazy-loaded section is visible yet. If the page inserts content after scrolling, wait for a meaningful condition—such as the target element becoming visible—before saving. Selenium’s troubleshooting guidance recommends JavaScript scrolling or Actions for elements outside the viewport or overlapped, and explicit waits when interaction depends on timing. It does not establish one universal wait duration. See Selenium troubleshooting.

For example, scroll to a target element and wait for visibility rather than sleeping for an arbitrary number of seconds:

Choose a viewport screenshot or an element screenshot

Selenium documents both screenshot operations in its WebDriver documentation. An element screenshot is not a substitute for positioning the page when you need surrounding viewport context.
Common problems and fixes
- The screenshot shows the top of the page. Run the scroll script after navigation and before saving the screenshot. Check that the page is in the expected window or frame.
- The target content is missing. It may load only after scrolling or after an asynchronous request. Scroll to it, wait for a relevant visible or loaded condition, then capture.
- The page moves, but the screenshot is unchanged. Verify that the code scrolls the correct browsing context and that the requested coordinates are within the page’s scrollable area.
- An element is off-screen or covered. Scroll it into view with JavaScript or Selenium Actions, then wait for visibility or for the obstructing content to clear.
- The image is not saved where expected.
save_screenshotwrites to the path supplied; use an absolute path if you need to control the destination. The Python API also providesget_screenshot_as_file(filename)andget_screenshot_as_png()for a file or PNG bytes, respectively.
