Greenshot’s documented scrolling capture works with Internet Explorer. Open the page in Internet Explorer, then choose Greenshot’s Capture Internet Explorer command and select the tab, or press Ctrl+Shift+Print to capture the active tab. Greenshot combines the page into one image that you can annotate, save, copy, print, or export. For a normal, non-scrolling window, use Alt+Print.
What Greenshot can capture
Greenshot has separate capture modes for a screen region, the last selected region, an active window, the entire screen, and an Internet Explorer page. Only the Internet Explorer mode is documented as a complete, scrolling web-page capture.
That distinction matters: a window capture records what is currently visible in a window. It does not automatically scroll through a long document. The Internet Explorer command is the special workflow that collects content beyond the viewport and produces one page-length screenshot.

Step-by-step: capture an entire Internet Explorer page
- Open the page in Internet Explorer. Wait until the page has finished loading, including any content that must be present in the final image.
- Make sure Greenshot is running. Start it from Windows, then look for its icon in the notification area. If the icon is hidden, expand the tray area.
- Start the Internet Explorer capture. Right-click the Greenshot tray icon and choose Capture Internet Explorer, then select the tab you want. You can use the keyboard instead: press Ctrl+Shift+Print while the target Internet Explorer tab is active.
- Allow the capture to finish. Greenshot processes the page and creates one scrolling image rather than a series of viewport screenshots. Very long pages can take longer than ordinary region captures.
- Choose the destination. Depending on your Greenshot output settings, the result can open in the Greenshot editor or go to a configured destination. From there you can annotate it, save it, copy it to the clipboard, print it, or export it.
The resulting image represents the page as Greenshot captured it. Fixed headers, sticky controls, animations, or elements that change while the page scrolls can affect how the final image looks.
Capturing an ordinary window instead
Press Alt+Print to capture the currently active window. Greenshot can also use interactive window selection: start a capture and select the desired window when prompted. During interactive capture, pressing Space switches between region and window selection.

This method is appropriate for a document, dialog box, desktop application, or browser viewport that fits on screen. It is not a scrolling capture. If the content extends below the visible area, Alt+Print will not scroll through it.
Does Greenshot scroll Chrome, Firefox, or other applications?
The official Greenshot help and product description specifically identify Internet Explorer for complete, scrolling web pages. They list no equivalent one-step scrolling mode for Chrome, Firefox, or arbitrary application windows. Therefore, do not assume that pressing Ctrl+Shift+Print in another browser will create a full-page image.
A historical Greenshot project discussion noted that reliable scrolling across arbitrary scrollbars and applications is difficult. That is a technical limitation, not a setting you can fix by changing the ordinary window shortcut. For a modern browser, use that browser’s own full-page screenshot feature or a separately verified capture service. If you need a repeatable developer workflow for authenticated, dynamic, or automated pages, an API is usually more predictable than desktop window capture.

- Greenshot is not running: launch it and confirm that its tray icon appears.
- The hotkey does nothing: another program may already own Ctrl+Shift+Print. Try the tray-menu command instead.
- No Internet Explorer tab appears: the documented workflow depends on an Internet Explorer page. A page open in another browser is not interchangeable with an IE tab.
- Your Windows installation has no usable Internet Explorer: Greenshot’s documented full-page method may not be available. Use a browser-native full-page command or an API-based alternative.
- The capture is incomplete: wait for the page to load before starting, and check whether content appears only after scrolling, interaction, or a delayed network request.
Changing Greenshot hotkeys
Greenshot’s FAQ identifies configuration entries including WindowHotkey and IEHotkey. To change them manually, exit Greenshot first, edit its configuration file, and restart the application. Closing Greenshot before editing prevents the running process from overwriting your changes.

Choose a key combination that is not used by Windows, your browser, screen-recording software, remote-desktop software, or another capture utility. After restarting, test the new shortcut on a disposable page before relying on it for production documentation.
Quality and reliability checklist
- Load first: confirm that text, images, and expandable sections needed in the image are present before capture.
- Control the page state: close menus, notices, chat panels, and transient tooltips that would otherwise become part of the image.
- Check sticky elements: a fixed navigation bar may appear repeatedly or overlap content when the page is assembled.
- Expect dynamic differences: advertisements, rotating banners, live counters, and animations can change while the page is being captured.
- Use an appropriate output format: PNG is useful for crisp interface text and annotations; JPEG can produce smaller files for photographic pages.
- Review the bottom of the image: a very long page can expose lazy-loaded sections or footer content that was not visible at the start.

Troubleshooting ScreenshotNeo captures
The response is not the image you expected
Inspect the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed response headers. They indicate whether the page was cleanly captured and whether it was billable. A bot check, blank page, timeout, or failed load is not charged.
Consent or chat UI remains
Check the cleanup options in your request. ScreenshotNeo’s consent, popup, and chat-removal steps can be enabled or disabled individually, so an intentionally preserved element may explain why it remains.

Add a wait for a selector, a delay, or network-idle waiting. For content that appears only after an interaction, use the click-element option or custom JavaScript before capture.
Authenticated content cannot be reached
Pass the required cookies, custom headers, user agent, or Authorization value. Keep credentials restricted to the request and avoid publishing signed URLs or secrets in client-side code.

Repeated requests return an older image
Review the cache setting and choose a TTL appropriate for the page. Disable or shorten caching when the source changes frequently.

Can Greenshot save a scrolling capture as a PDF?
The documented Greenshot workflow creates a screenshot and offers save, copy, print, and export destinations. The supplied documentation does not establish a dedicated scrolling-page PDF mode.
Will Ctrl+Shift+Print capture every Internet Explorer tab?
No. It targets the active Internet Explorer tab. To capture another tab, make that tab active first or use Greenshot’s tray command and select the tab.
