For a long web page, use the browser’s full-page screenshot feature: in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S and choose the full-page option; in Firefox, open Screenshot and choose Save full page. For a document, list, panel, or other scrollable app window, use a scrolling-capture tool such as ShareX or PicPick instead. The distinction matters: browser full-page capture is designed for web pages, while scrolling-capture utilities select and stitch successive views of content in a window.
Choose the method that matches what you want to capture
First decide whether the target is a web page or content inside an application window. A full-page browser capture works from the page itself and can include content below the visible browser area. A scrolling-window utility instead captures a selected screen region as it scrolls and combines those captures into a longer image. That frame-stitching approach can be affected by fixed elements, animation, or hover effects.

The Windows Snipping Tool documentation lists freeform, rectangle, window, and full-screen image modes; it does not list scrolling capture. Use it for visible screen content, not as the route to a long stitched image.
Capture an entire web page in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page you want to capture in Edge and wait until the content you need has loaded.
- Open Screenshot. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open the page’s right-click menu or Edge Settings and choose the Screenshot entry.
- Choose the full-page capture option. Do not choose a visible-area or selected-area capture if you need the parts below the fold.
- Copy or save the result. Choose the available action in the screenshot interface to copy the image or save it.
Edge’s Screenshot feature is intended to capture a whole webpage, including portions that require scrolling to see. Microsoft notes that availability and functionality may vary by device type, market, and browser version, so the exact label or menu placement can differ. If the shortcut or menu entry is absent, check that Edge is up to date and use the Screenshot entry available in your installation rather than assuming every version has identical controls.

Capture an entire web page in Firefox
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Open the Screenshot tool and select Save full page.
- Save or copy the image using the action offered by the tool.
Firefox also offers Save visible. Choose that only when the current viewport is all you need; it does not capture the rest of the page. Firefox’s help documentation describes downloaded screenshots as image files and also provides a clipboard-copy option.
Capture a scrollable app window or document with ShareX
When the target is a document, list, or application panel rather than a web page, ShareX’s scrolling capture can select a region, scroll it, and combine successive screen captures. The precise result depends on how the target behaves as it moves.
- Open ShareX’s main window or its tray menu.
- Choose Capture → Scrolling capture.
- Select the region containing the content to capture.
- Allow ShareX to scroll and combine the views. Review the resulting image when capture finishes.
ShareX indicates the result with a status color: green means success, yellow means partial success, and red means it failed to combine the initial captures. A partial result is not necessarily a complete record of the window; inspect the beginning, middle, and end before relying on it.

Reduce stitching problems
- Select only the content area if a fixed sidebar, footer, or other stationary element is confusing the frame matching.
- Move the pointer away from hover-sensitive content before capture. A hover effect can change what appears between frames.
- Expect trouble when elements remain static while the rest of the page scrolls or when animation changes the appearance between captures.
- If a result is incomplete or visibly misaligned, try a narrower region and recapture. No stitching tool is guaranteed to combine every application or layout cleanly.
Use PicPick’s Scrolling Window mode
PicPick names its scrolling capture feature Scrolling Window. Its documented use cases include web pages, documents, lists, and panels. Choose this mode when the content extends beyond the visible screen and you need the utility to capture more than the current window view.
PicPick documents several ways to handle the resulting capture: send it to PicPick Editor, save automatically, or copy it to the clipboard. Select the destination that fits what you will do next—for example, editing before sharing versus placing the image directly into another application. The available documentation establishes the mode and output choices, but does not establish universal compatibility with every app or a performance advantage over other capture tools.
Which approach should you use?
For a web page, start with the browser’s own full-page option. For other scrollable windows, use a dedicated scrolling-capture utility. A browser-level page capture does not mean that every window on the PC can be captured as a long image; conversely, selecting and stitching a window region is a different workflow from the browser’s full-page action.

Why a scrolling screenshot may be incomplete or distorted
The wrong capture mode was selected
A visible-area browser capture and a Windows snip show only what is currently on screen. For a browser page, rerun the capture with the full-page option. For a scrollable app window, use a scrolling-capture mode rather than a normal snip.
Fixed or changing elements do not stitch cleanly
In a stitched capture, the utility compares successive views. A stationary sidebar or footer, animated content, or a hover effect may change or obscure the overlap used to join frames. Reduce the selected area to the main content and move the pointer away from interactive elements. If the application keeps changing during capture, try again when it is idle; if it still fails, the stitching method may not suit that content.

With ShareX, check the status color after capture. Yellow denotes partial success and red denotes failure to combine the initial captures. Do not treat either as a complete image without reviewing the result. Adjust the selected region and retry; for a web page, try its browser’s native full-page capture instead.

The browser option is missing or labeled differently
Edge’s feature availability and interface can vary by version, device type, and market. Try the documented shortcut, Ctrl+Shift+S, and inspect the page right-click menu or Settings for Screenshot. In Firefox, use the Screenshot tool’s full-page action, not its visible-area action. If those controls are unavailable in your installation, use another supported browser or a scrolling capture utility for the web page.

Practical checks before you share the image
- Confirm that the capture includes the first and last content you intended to preserve.
- Look for duplicated or missing strips where a scrolling utility joined frames.
- Check that menus, tooltips, or hover states did not replace the content you wanted.
- Make sure the chosen output destination worked: saved image, clipboard, or editor.
- If the content is sensitive, review the entire image before sharing it; a full-page capture may include material that was not visible in the initial viewport.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture a long page as a PDF instead of an image?
