In Python, wait for the alert with WebDriverWait, call accept(), and save the current page with driver.save_screenshot("page.png"). The alert is a native browser dialog, not a DOM element, so you cannot handle it with a CSS selector.
Python: accept the alert, then save the screenshot
This example assumes you have installed Selenium, created a driver, navigated to the page, and performed any action needed to trigger the alert. Replace the example URL and triggering action with those for your test.

driver.quit()The wait matters when the dialog appears asynchronously after a click, form submission, or other browser action. If your code already knows the alert is present immediately after the trigger, you can access it directly with driver.switch_to.alert. The Python alert API also supports Alert(driver).accept().
The screenshot is taken from the current browsing context after the alert has been accepted. save_screenshot writes the image to the path you provide; make sure the process has permission to write there. Selenium’s screenshot operation should not be assumed to produce a full-page image in every browser and driver combination.

What accepting an alert does—and what it does not do
Selenium exposes native JavaScript dialogs through its alert API. An ordinary alert() has text and an OK-style action; a confirm() can be accepted or dismissed; and a prompt() can accept text input. For a prompt, enter text before accepting:

alert.accept()Use alert.dismiss() instead when the test must choose Cancel on a confirmation or prompt. Do not use prompt-specific text entry for an ordinary alert.

- JavaScript alert: handle it with Selenium’s alert API.
- HTML modal or cookie banner: it is part of the page DOM and generally must be handled using ordinary element locators and interactions.
- Browser permission UI: it is not necessarily a JavaScript alert and may require browser or driver-specific configuration.
Recent Selenium driver documentation says drivers automatically dismiss beforeunload prompts by default. Treat that special navigation prompt separately from an application alert, and verify the behavior and settings for the driver version you use.
Java equivalent
In Java, switch to the alert and accept it before requesting the screenshot. Selenium’s Java screenshot interface returns a file that you can copy to the destination path used by your test.

The snippet above shows the API sequence and file copy; it assumes the driver is already set up and that the destination directory is writable.
Common failures and fixes
NoAlertPresentExceptionor a failure to switch: the dialog may not have appeared yet, may already have been handled, or may be an HTML overlay rather than a native JavaScript alert. Wait for alert presence after the triggering action and confirm which kind of UI appeared.- The wait times out: check that the intended action actually runs and causes a JavaScript dialog. Increase the wait only when the page legitimately needs more time; a longer timeout will not fix a missing trigger or the wrong dialog type.
- The screenshot shows the wrong page or state: take the screenshot after accepting the dialog and ensure the driver is still in the intended window or tab and browsing context.
- The screenshot file is absent or cannot be opened: check the save method’s result, the destination path, directory existence, write permissions, and whether another process is moving or deleting the file.
- The image does not include the whole document: WebDriver screenshots are tied to the current browsing context and implementation. Verify the behavior for your specific browser and driver rather than assuming a full-page capture.
