Sign in to the website in Chrome, open the page you want to capture in that same tab, then use Chrome DevTools’ Device Mode menu to take a full-page or viewport screenshot. You do not need to export or copy login cookies: capture the page as it appears in your authenticated browser tab.
Before you capture: open the authenticated page
- Sign in through the website’s normal login flow in Chrome.
- In the same tab, navigate to the page and state you want to show. Wait for its content to load and open any menus or overlays that should appear in the image.
- Open DevTools and turn on Device Mode with the device toolbar control.
Websites commonly use cookies to manage sessions; Chrome’s documentation describes how cookies appear in DevTools, including session cookies marked with an expiry of “Session.” You can capture the page without handling those credentials. Chrome: View, add, edit, and delete cookies.
Choose the right screenshot type

Chrome documents the full-page command as capturing the whole page, including content not visible in the viewport. Chrome: Simulate mobile devices with Device Mode.

- With the target page open, open DevTools and select the Device Mode toolbar control.
- Open the Device Mode More options menu.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot for the entire document, or Capture screenshot for the current viewport.
- Open the saved image and verify that it shows the intended page and content.
Menu wording can vary between Chrome releases. If you do not see the documented action, check that Device Mode is enabled and consult the current Device Mode documentation.

Capture only a selected area
- Open the DevTools Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac.
- Type screenshot and select Capture area screenshot.
- Drag across the page to select the region you want.
Keep DevTools docked in the browser window: Chrome notes that area capture does not work when DevTools is undocked. Chrome: Run commands in the Command Menu.
Do not confuse page screenshots with Network load frames
The Network panel has a separate Capture screenshots setting. It records frames of what appears while a page loads after a reload; it is not the ordinary one-off capture of the page currently displayed. To use it, open Network, enable Capture screenshots in Network settings, then reload while Network is focused. See Chrome: Network features reference.
Check privacy before sharing
A screenshot shows whatever the logged-in page renders. Review it for account names, messages, billing details, or other private information before sending or publishing it, and follow your organization’s rules for confidential content.

A HAR file is different from a screenshot. Chrome DevTools’ sanitized HAR export excludes sensitive request headers such as Cookie, Set-Cookie, and Authorization by default; exporting with sensitive data is a separate option in settings. Avoid sharing a sensitive HAR unless necessary and appropriate for the recipient. Chrome: Network features reference.
Troubleshooting
The screenshot shows a login page or interstitial
Check that you are still signed in, then revisit the intended page in that same tab and wait for its content to load before capturing. DevTools captures the page it is given; it does not create a separate authenticated session.
Capture area screenshot is unavailable or fails
Dock DevTools to the browser window, reopen the Command Menu, search for “screenshot,” and choose Capture area screenshot again.

Use Capture a full size screenshot from Device Mode’s More options menu. Capture screenshot is for the current viewport, not the entire document.

Turn off the Network panel’s Capture screenshots option if it is not needed. For a single capture of the page as it currently appears, use Device Mode’s screenshot command instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can DevTools capture a page while I am logged in without exporting cookies?
Yes. Sign in normally and capture the page in the same authenticated Chrome tab; there is no need to copy or export login cookies.
Why is my full-page capture different from what I see in the viewport?
A full-size screenshot includes content beyond the current viewport, while Capture screenshot records only the current view.
