On a Windows PC, press Windows+Shift+S; on a Mac, press Shift+Command+5. Choose a window or selected area so the image shows only the relevant bank page. Before saving or sharing it, check that it contains no password, PIN, OTP, full account or card number, or anyone else’s personal information. Use your device’s built-in capture controls rather than adding a browser extension to a banking session.
Before you capture a banking page
- Use your own trusted, updated computer and a private network. Confirm that the bank site is genuine and uses HTTPS. Indian Bank specifically recommends checking HTTPS and avoiding public or open Wi-Fi for online transactions; that advice should not be taken as a statement of every Indian bank’s policy.
- Open the specific page or transaction status you need. Close unrelated tabs and windows, and frame only the relevant content. A selected area or window is usually preferable to capturing the whole screen.
- Look for credentials and sensitive identifiers before taking the image. Do not include a password, PIN, OTP, security answer, full account or card number, or another person’s information. Indian Bank warns: “Never write down or disclose your user ID passwords or PIN. Bank never asks for user ID/passwords/ PIN/ Card No/CVV.”
- If the bank’s terms prohibit capture, or the page or device blocks it, do not try to bypass that restriction. Contact the bank for an approved confirmation, statement, or evidence route. Rules and technical controls may differ by bank and page.
Capture the page on Windows
- With the relevant bank page visible, press Windows+Shift+S. This opens the Snipping Tool capture controls in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- Choose the appropriate mode: rectangular area for a transaction detail, window for the browser window, or full screen only if the whole display is necessary.
- Select the content to capture. Avoid including browser tabs, unrelated balances, account identifiers, or other on-screen information that is not needed.
- Open the snip from the notification if you need to review or save it. Save it in a folder that is not shared with other people.
Capture the page on a Mac
- With the relevant page visible, press Shift+Command+5 to open Screenshot controls.
- Choose capture of the full screen, a window, or a selected portion. Select a portion when that is enough to show the transaction or status.
- Capture and review the result. Save it somewhere access is restricted rather than in a shared photo or cloud location if it contains account details.
Redact and share carefully
If you need to send the screenshot to someone, work on a copy and redact the information they do not need. Then inspect the exported copy at full size. Make sure the hidden digits cannot still be read or recovered from the image; placing a translucent shape over them may not be enough. Keep any unredacted original secured if you may need it later for a dispute.
Treat the screenshot as sensitive financial data: use a private storage location, share it only with the intended recipient, and avoid public or shared folders. When finished banking, log out and close the browser, as Indian Bank advises.

Keep the original file unchanged and note when and how it was captured and who handled it. RBI’s report on information systems security and controls in banks says, “Digital evidence needs to be considered as similar to any other form of legal proof.” It discusses integrity, documented handling, and suitable authentication. That guidance supports careful preservation; it does not mean a consumer screenshot automatically proves a dispute or will be accepted as conclusive evidence.

Common problems
- The snipping shortcut does not open: Confirm that you are using Windows 10 or 11 and press Windows+Shift+S together. On a Mac, use Shift+Command+5 instead.
- The capture includes too much information: Retake it using a selected area or window, and close unrelated tabs first. If it has already been saved, redact a copy and inspect the exported file before sharing.
- The bank page blocks capture or its rules disallow it: Do not defeat the control. Ask the bank for an approved record or confirmation.
- You need a mobile screenshot: The steps above cover Windows and Mac desktop browsers, not Android or iPhone/iPad. Use the device’s built-in capture controls only if permitted by the bank; consult the bank or device documentation for the applicable steps.
Scope
These instructions address Windows 10/11 and Mac desktop browsers. They do not establish whether a particular bank permits capturing every logged-in page, whether a specific app suppresses screenshots, or what rules apply to mobile devices. Follow the bank’s terms and use its approved route whenever capture is disallowed or blocked.
