Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Set the browser to the CSS viewport you want to test, open the page, and save a screenshot. With Selenium in Python, the basic sequence is set_window_size(width, height), get(url), then save_screenshot(path). The chosen dimensions are project-specific: there is no single universal tablet width, and the outer browser window is not always the same size as the page’s usable viewport.
Capture a screenshot at a chosen width with Selenium and Python
This example uses a 900 × 1100 window as an illustration, not as a standard tablet size. Change the dimensions to match the breakpoint or device scenario you need to test.
from selenium import webdriver
options = webdriver.ChromeOptions()
driver = webdriver.Chrome(options=options)
try:
driver.set_window_size(900, 1100) # Example window dimensions; choose your target
driver.get("https://example.com")
saved = driver.save_screenshot("tablet-view.png")
if not saved:
raise RuntimeError("Screenshot was not saved")
finally:
driver.quit()
Selenium’s Python API provides set_window_size(width, height) and save_screenshot(path); the latter returns a Boolean indicating whether the image was saved. If you use a path inside a subdirectory, create that directory first. The finally block quits the browser even if navigation or capture fails.
Choose the right tablet test setup
Resize a desktop browser window
Use set_window_size() when you want to check how the site’s responsive CSS behaves at a selected width in a desktop browser. Window dimensions include browser and operating-system framing, so they may not equal the page’s CSS viewport dimensions. If a breakpoint must be tested precisely, inspect the resulting viewport in the test environment rather than assuming the requested outer size is the page width.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Enable Chrome mobile emulation when needed
Chrome mobile emulation is a different setup from simply resizing a desktop window. It can set device metrics such as width, height, and pixel ratio, and can affect values such as window.innerWidth, window.screen.width, and device-width media queries. Use it when the test calls for emulated mobile behavior as well as a chosen viewport. The exact configuration syntax depends on the Selenium binding and its compatibility with ChromeDriver, so check the versioned API for the versions installed in your environment.
const { Builder } = require('selenium-webdriver');
const chrome = require('selenium-webdriver/chrome');
const fs = require('fs');
const options = new chrome.Options().setMobileEmulation({
deviceMetrics: { width: 900, height: 1100, pixelRatio: 1 }
});
const driver = await new Builder()
.forBrowser('chrome')
.setChromeOptions(options)
.build();
try {
await driver.get('https://example.com');
const image = await driver.takeScreenshot();
fs.writeFileSync('tablet-view.png', image, 'base64');
} finally {
await driver.quit();
}
The dimensions and pixel ratio here are examples. Verify the installed Selenium binding and ChromeDriver compatibility before using version-specific emulation options.

Make the screenshot reproducible
Record the conditions that define the screenshot, not just the filename. For a reliable comparison, note the selected width and height, orientation, pixel ratio, browser and driver versions, and whether mobile emulation is enabled. Choose dimensions to match the CSS breakpoint or target device scenario under test; neither the example width above nor any other single width is a universal tablet specification.
Also decide whether you need a screenshot of the current viewport or a full-page image. The Selenium methods shown here capture the current browser view. The documented material for this procedure does not establish a universal full-page capture method, so do not treat a viewport screenshot as a full-page result.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The saved image is narrower than the requested width: the requested size may describe the outer browser window, while browser framing reduces the usable page area. Inspect the page viewport in the running test and adjust the setup to reach the CSS width you intend to test.
- The layout does not match a tablet scenario: resizing a desktop window does not enable the same setup as Chrome mobile emulation. Decide whether you need a width-only responsive CSS check or emulated device metrics, then configure and label the test accordingly.
- The screenshot file is missing: check the Boolean returned by
save_screenshot(), confirm the destination path is writable, and create any parent directory before saving. - The mobile-emulation option is rejected or has no effect: confirm the syntax against the installed Selenium language binding and check that ChromeDriver is compatible with the browser and options in use.
- The page has not finished rendering when captured: the example navigates and then captures; if the site renders content asynchronously, make the test wait for the page state or element relevant to your test before taking the screenshot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 900-pixel-wide browser window guarantee a 900-pixel CSS viewport?
No. Browser and operating-system framing can make the page’s usable viewport smaller than the outer window. Check the viewport in the test environment when exact breakpoint width matters.

No. Resizing changes the window dimensions; mobile emulation configures device metrics as well. Use the setup that matches the behavior your test is meant to represent.
