Use Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() to capture an Aadhaar website page you are authorized to access. For a public UIDAI information page, navigate to the page, wait for the content you need, and save the screenshot. Avoid capturing or sharing Aadhaar numbers, VID, OTPs, credentials, demographic details, or offline e-KYC material. A screenshot can retain everything visible in the browser.
Capture a public UIDAI page with Puppeteer
The example below opens UIDAI’s public homepage in headless Chromium and saves a full-page PNG. It is an illustrative workflow, not a tested script; a live page may not reach the selected network-idle state, so adapt the wait condition to the page and verify the result.

The Puppeteer Page.screenshot() API documents a default Uint8Array return value and a base64-string encoding overload.
Choose the right page and wait condition
- Confirm that the domain and page are the intended official target and that you are authorized to capture it. UIDAI identifies uidai.gov.in and associated portals, including myAadhaar, as its websites.
- Prefer a public information page. UIDAI describes its main site as primarily informational and associated portals such as myAadhaar as service portals. Some services may ask for Aadhaar number or VID, mobile number, and OTP.
- Set a viewport that matches the intended desktop or mobile layout. Wait for a specific element when you need a particular piece of content; use a broader readiness condition only when it suits the page. There is no universal wait strategy for every UIDAI page.
- Use
fullPage: truewhen the whole document is needed. Omit it for a viewport-only capture. - Open the saved image and inspect it before storing, publishing, or sharing it.
Protect Aadhaar information in screenshots
Treat an authenticated myAadhaar view as sensitive. UIDAI’s policy says associated services may require personal information and authentication, and that usage logs, authentication events, and service interactions may be recorded; session data and interaction history may also be temporarily stored for security, troubleshooting, or audit purposes. UIDAI states: “Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their credentials and ensuring secure access while using these services.”

- Do not expose Aadhaar numbers or VID, OTPs, passwords, account details, demographic information, or private e-KYC material in an image you retain or share.
- Do not automate OTP or Aadhaar authentication merely to produce a screenshot. The screenshot method itself does not require those details.
- If an authorized internal process truly requires an authenticated view, restrict access to the image and redact sensitive details before wider sharing.
UIDAI’s FAQ specifically says service providers shall not share, publish, or display offline e-KYC XML, share codes, or their contents. That statement names service providers; it should not be treated by itself as a complete ruling on every screenshot or publication scenario.
Check policy and attribution before publishing
UIDAI’s website policy asks that reused material be reproduced accurately and not in a misleading context, and requests UIDAI acknowledgement and the source page URL. It also says extracts for research or private study are not for sale or commercial use. Check the applicable policy and any third-party rights before publishing a screenshot; the policy does not resolve every specific licensing or legal question.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- Navigation never completes: a page may keep network activity open, so
networkidle2might not be suitable. Choose a wait condition appropriate to the page, or wait for the specific content you need rather than assuming one network state works everywhere. - The screenshot is blank or missing content: confirm navigation reached the intended URL, wait for the visible content, and inspect the rendered page before saving. A successful navigation call alone does not prove that the desired content appeared.
- The screenshot is unexpectedly long or clipped: use
fullPage: truefor a document-length capture, or remove it for only the current viewport. Check the installed Puppeteer version for exact option behavior. - The image contains private information: do not share it as-is. Restrict access and redact the sensitive content, or recapture a public page instead.
- The script fails to launch or import Puppeteer: check that Puppeteer is installed in the project, that the project’s module format matches the
importsyntax, and that Chromium can launch in the execution environment.
